Sorry, DM'd through the forums instead of discord.
Thank you so desperately for posting this, you've saved me continuing to make a fool of myself on here! I wasn't familiar with the acronym "DM" and I assumed the "D" stood for Discord and that therefore every time someone asked me to "DM" it was reasonable for me to reply telling them I didn't have Discord and therefore couldn't do that.
I'm still not quite sure what the "D" could possibly stand for that would make sense in this context. The general term and acronym that I was familiar with for referring to a private message that you send to other members on the same site was "PM", where the "P" stood for "private". That's logical. I have no idea why the rising generation found it necessary to change that, I thought that was still the acronym that was being used and as I say, I still can't imagine what the hell that "D" could possibly stand for that is logically deducable rather than requiring that you be a member of the Internet in-group that assumes their narrow specialized little world is the ENTIRE world and mocks you if you don't know the latest slang
Some social media call their version of private message direct messaging. Where you start typically affects the term you use across all platforms. Welcome from one old person to another!
Well I see where my post could be very confusing. I used DM in two different ways. The fist being “Dungeon Master” as opposed to GM meaning “Game Master”. The second way I used DM was for the slang term, “Direct Message”. I apologize deeply that my post was very confusing and it is removed.

Well, I do apologize for getting a little testy. In a calmer mood, I realize the problem may be at least as much my issues with language (very common with Aspergers/autism ) and the happenstance of what terms I have and haven't come across yet on the Internet. I truly regret I set up a situation where you felt you had to remove your post, that was definitely not my intention and I apologize, not least bc without that post this thread so fardeals almost exclusively with my language issues instead of the one shot server you originally started to post about and for that I am vry sorry

Your fine. DM the DM is way more fun to say than PM the GM! Plus you are far from the only person who uses them interchangeably, myself included.
I'd go as far as to guess that using GM for game master might confuse more folks than using DM for direct message would.
