This is a one-on-one adventure, meaning one player and one DM. It is based in the Forgotten Realms, although some aspects of it may be changed as I see fit. Let's get started, and be sure to check the campaign page for information and guidelines for the forum. Remember, all dice rolls will be handled by me. If you feel I have made a roll incorrectly for you, send me a message.
For reasons of your own, you find yourself traveling south along the High Road, to the great city of Waterdeep. The road takes you between the high, narrow cliffs of the coast and the Sword Mountains, which block your view of the east. You are just coming up on Greymace Pass, an old dwarven-built pass that leads beneath the Sword Mountains, ending at the eastern side of the mountain range. The Pass itself is rarely used for its original purpose, but a dwarven mining guild has setup there, and the place is commonly stopped at by travelers along the High Road.
As you come around a bend, the outpost built just outside the pass comes into view, but there's a problem. You see thick smoke rising from behind the palisade wall, and you see what once must have been a caravan scattered about over the road. The main gate into the outpost looks to have been forced open and is laying on the ground. Corpses are scattered among the wreckage, except for one female human figure leaned against a broken wagon near the cliff, overlooking the Sea of Swords to the west. She appears to be wounded and having trouble breathing. Among the corpses there many humans, a few dwarves, and goblins. A fight obviously took place here.
As you get closer, you see the broken tip of a spear stuck into her side. With great effort, she raises her arm and points to a nearby wagon and manages to grunt out, "He... heal... potion."
Upon closer inspection of the woman, you see she is geared up in chain mail, and she bears a symbol on her shoulder. The symbol resembles a red wolf claw.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
DM Screen:
HP: 7
As you administer the potion, she rips the spear tip from her torso. She lets out a painful grunt, but quickly regains her strength. You see most of her wounds magically seal up, and all that remains are a few scrapes and blood stains on her. She then quickly stands up surveys the surroundings, and at this moment you take notice of her towering height. You reckon she stands about 6 ft. tall, and she has a larger frame with much more muscle than you; she is most certainly a fighting woman, and she looks able to take on a horde on her own.
As she finishes her scan of the area, she turns to you and speaks in an authoritative tone, "I thank you very much for your kindness, but what are you doing out here all alone? You look to be not much more than a child." She continues as she gathers some gear from the wreckage, "If you don't want to become the main course in a goblin stew, I recommend you stay close to me." She digs through more wreckage, appearing to become annoyed, but lets out a sigh of relief when she finds her longsword. She cleans off the blade and sheathes it, then turns to you, "You can't be going off alone, and I need to head in after those goblins, are you with me or not? My name is Sara by the way, Sara Lonesplitter."
(OOC: The DM Screen is for my eyes only. Although there's nothing I can do to stop you from looking at it, the information on there may not be helpful, since it's mostly just rolls for stuff.)
That's one powerful potion,I've got to get some of those.
"Well met Sara."
I extend my hand to shake hers.
"Whether you're tough or just lucky,I wouldn't want to square off with you,or anybody who could take a spear and live to tell the tale. My name is Zasheir Khalid. Are you saying that you mean to take on an entire horde of goblins??"
(OOC: So the spoilers tab thing is what you're talking about?)
(OOC: Yes, also when you see "(Post still in progress)" that means I'm still working on the post. I have to submit the post for it to make the rolls, then I have to go back and edit it based on what was rolled.)
She grips your hand tightly and shakes it. "I don't plan on killing all those goblins, I just want to do what I was paid to do; to safely escort a merchant from Neverwinter to Waterdeep. The goblins took the merchant I was charged to protect, and as a member of Red Company, I don't plan on backing down from my mission. There's one little problem though..." She glances over at a few of her dead comrades. "My detachment is undermanned. You seem able to handle yourself just fine, seeing as you've made it this far in the world all by yourself. If you help me, not only will I give you half my share of the pay, but you will have earned respect from my organization. So, are you in?" She glances at you questioningly and gestures towards the smokestack that is the outpost. "It'll be tough, but what is life if not tough."
Not only will I be paid, but I will also have established a network through which I can have steady work...I like it
"Well Sara, you've got yourself a deal. You're in luck, for I was heading to Waterdeep myself. Since we're going to be fighting together,I think it best if we learn each others tactics. I prefer stealth and subtlety over direct confrontation, though I can handle myself in a fair fight. What about you?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I much prefer straightforward and direct solutions, but given our situation, I think stealth is the smart approach. It'll be kinda hard for me to stay quiet with all this gear on though." She shrugs a bit, causing her chain mail to jingle. "If you want, I think you should sneak up to the outpost and get a read on the situation before we head in there, don't get seen though. You take lead on the approach, I'll stay back here with the wreckage. If it's all clear, wave your hand around in the air with your palm open, if we have trouble, just come back here and tell me the situation. If you get into trouble, I'll do my best to help."
Preparing for the worst, she walks over to the crate of potions and consumes another one. She then turns to you and hands you the other two. "Here, you can have these, they weren't mine anyways, but I think my employer won't care too much."
I take the potions and store them in my bag. I unsheathe my rapier, and in my off hand I hold a throwing knife(dart). I begin to make my way stealthily,on the lookout for any danger and ready to lash out at any ambush

Zasheir Kalid - Stealth Check: 23
You make your way to the the outpost, which is about about 300 ft. away. A broken section of the wooden wall reveals a spot for you to look inside without being seen. You climb your way onto the wooden pile, which grants you a view of the inside. You see the remnants of a few wooden structures, which are smoking embers at this point. You see a few tents set up in the middle of the outpost, surrounding a wooden watchtower in the middle that rises up about 30 ft. In the tower, you see two goblins with bows looking around anxiously, but see no other foes besides them. Past the watchtower, at the very back of the outpost, you can see the entrance into Greymace Pass. The entrance has a portcullis, which is currently closed.
The burning remnants of the wooden structures are still very hot and not safe to pass through. The camp site in the middle of the outpost appears to be empty, aside from the goblins in the watchtower. Many dead dwarves cover the ground, appearing to have died in battle.
(OOC: I just want to say, that it may seem odd at first not having specifics on distance and exactly how things are laid out. I'm not going to be super focused on the math of everything, like the exact distances of each goblin. Instead, we focus on what seems probable, which is the easiest way to run a play-by-post. If you need something explained more though, feel free to ask.)
Hmm..there only seems to be two..however,not everything is always as it seems. Maybe I should go back to Sara and get some help...but in the other hand, those goblins look wary, and with all that armor on she's sure to alert them, and while the two of us would have a fair chance at taking the both of them together,I don't like the idea of fighting fair. Maybe I could take them by surprise? In any case,I should at least tell Sara of this so that she may lend assistance should I need it.
I'm going to creep back to the wreckage and confront sara.
"I spotted two goblins in the watchtower ahead. They seem to be alert. If I could get to the tower I believe that I could take them by surprise, and while I would prefer your hand in this,I fear that you may forfeit our advantage of surprise. If you would like,I could attempt to sneak up to them and engage them. If I need help, you could be ready to rush forth and assist me"
"What do you think? Stealth?" I flip the throwing knife in the air before catching it "Or force?" I fein a stab with the knife
Sara responds. "If you think you can take them quietly, then let's do that. Just be careful. I'll wait just outside the main entrance. If you get into trouble, just yell for me." Sara then draws her sword and equips her shield, ready for action. "Let's get it done."
I nod before skulking off back to the spot I was before. I then search for a route that would keep me put of direct eye sight of the goblins, and attempt to sneak up to the base of the tower. I have my rapier in one hand and a throwing knife in the other

Zasheir Kalid - Stealth Check: 21
Sara Lonesplitter - Stealth Check: 6
Zasheir, you and Sara begin the short walk towards the outpost. You and Sara split off. Sara makes her way near the main gate, out of your line of sight. You make your way back to the opening in the wall, and hear the jingling of Sara's armor in the distance. You look up at the tower and see the goblins react to the noise. The goblins pull out their shortbows and look around, but don't seem to think there is any immediate danger.
Goblins - Perception Check: 17
Zasheir, you smoothly slide throughout the ruins, using the smoking embers as cover, allowing you to sneak up to the watchtower from the rear. There is a ladder in the middle of the tower, which opens up to the top floor of the watchtower (moving all the way up the ladder requires 30 ft of climbing). From this location, you are in the middle of the small rugged campsite, and can see supplies strewn throughout it.
If I can,I attempt to make my way to the base of the tower, staying out of the goblins line of sight. I even wait for the goblins to look in a different direction before moving, even tossing a rock or two to distract them if I must

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
"what in the nine hells?"
I unsheathe my rapier and move up to investigate, upon noticing the female,I rush up to her, while checking her wounds I say
"what happened to you?"

I sheathe my rapier and run over to the wagon, rummaging around the wagon looking for the potion.
A quick search of the wagon reveals a small crate containing four glass bottles filled with a red liquid.
(OOC: If you are taking these items, add four Potion of Healing to your character sheet.)
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
I grab a red potion, taste it to identify that it is a healing potion, and run back over to the human before feeding her the potion
"Sure enough that I ain't no doctor, nor a priest, but hopefully this will help"
