Once every eight years, the fantastic Witchlight Carnival touches down on your world, bringing joy to one settlement after the next. Its owners, Mister Witch and Mister Light, know how to put on a good show. But there’s more to this magical extravaganza than meets the eye!
This campaign takes players to the Feywild, a domain unlike anything found on the Material Plane. It is a place of wonder and whimsy ruled by unfettered emotion. The Wild Beyond the Witchlight takes adventurers from the Witchlight Carnival to Prismeer, a Feywild domain of delight, and is designed for characters of levels 1–8. This means, it may take a long time to get to the end. I will be looking for 4-5 players to take this journey. Character advancement will be story line driven.
I like to run campaigns where players have fun. We will be using core D&D 5e rules here: Players Handbook, DM Guide and Monster Manual, plus those specific features of the scenario, including two backgrounds: feylost and Witchlight hand. There will be lost of whimsical and odd characters, some with a dark side, but nothing too severe. This will be very new-player friendly.
I have been playing and running role-playing games for many years, but I am relatively new to 5e. Therefore, I will try to follow the rules as written, but am likely to make a mistake or two - so don't be afraid to point out something I might get wrong. My hard limits are no content of a sexual or extreme violence nature, and I no tolerance of homophobia, transphobia or racial bias.
Still interested? Then here's what you do: PM me a note with the following information: 1. Your experience. There is no right or wrong answer here - new players and veterans both should apply. I just want to get to know you a bit. This will be a new player friendly game. 2. What are you looking for in a game? This might be a simple description of balance for combat, story-telling, or puzzle-solving. Or maybe you prefer gritty and dark. Or maybe you are just looking for a tongue-in-cheek, pun-filled adventure? 3. What times are you most likely to be active? What timezone are you in? Be honest. 4. What is your character idea? I do not need full characters. In fact, it will not help you get selected, although if that is the best way for you to convey what you are thinking, it won't hurt you either. If you want to make the character now, we will use either a standard array or point buy. Only races and classes in Players Handbook are allowed. The game will start in a small village on the Sword Coast (Faerun), although if you want to be from a different setting, we can actually make that work. 5. Is there anyone else applying that you particularly want to play with? If so, who - and will your characters have a connection?
After you PM me, post to this thread a small note in your proposed character's voice saying how excite you are that the carnival is coming to town.
I will take applications until next Wednesday. If you can't decide on a character concept by then, it's ok to submit with just some rough ideas.
He tilted his broad horned head looking thoughtfully at the posting about the carnival coming to town. He scratch the bit of heavier fur forming something of a beard on his bovine chin. "A carnival. Could be.. interesting," his voice deep and rich. The white-furred minotaur puts the faint buzz of excitement away for now and returns to his work.
- Nothing set in stone of course. I'm always open to different character ideas. XD
he looked intrigued at the posting, quickly putting it in his pocket, and rushing to his troupe, the halfling intent on convincing them to perform for the carnival "if we do this right, we shouldn't need to perform for quite a while after" he notes to to the ringleader, in excited tone, but whether or not the troupe would come with, he had already made up his mind to go and perform in the carnival.

He heard many tales about traveling shows. This would be the perfect opportunity to spread word of his recent feats of fantastic heroism.
“Ah ha! A Carnival.” The Dragonborn’s scales twinkle with optimism. “There will be plenty of worldy creatures roaming about… surely they’ll be able to appreciate my heroics!”
From the backalley of the main square of the carnival. Looking torward the main square, half in the shadow, while touching his curling horn with the tip of his right index. In an excited voice:" Finally 8 years have past since the last carnaval. Let s see what wonder will this carnaval have"
Whiping the tail on the floor. The tielfing says: "let s get the party started"
A young women looks at a flyer, rereading it just to make sure she wasn't mistaken. A barely contained grin crosses her face while she carefully adjusts the flyer to make it more visible to others. "Well then, I suppose it wont be long now until I get the chance to go back after all."
Peering bleary-eyed at the ale-soaked paper in front of him, he willed himself to bring the letters into focus.
"A carnival? Oh that should be fun. Gotta have better ale than this joint.", he muttered aloud, ignoring the angry look the barkeep shot him. "Maybe I can make a bit of coin. Always a rube ripe for the picking at these events or some such."
The tall man walks through town, seemingly unaware of the people staring at his flamboyant attire. His perpetual, serene smile widens ever so slightly, as he heads towards the Carnival Square.
The half-orc grimaced and looked around for a place to hide as he saw the guard approaching. No idea if they would have been given his description, but no sense in tempting fate. You don't exactly blend in here, Tusky. He scowled at the voice in his head and growled under his breath, "Shut up, will ya? Trying to keep track of the guard is bad enough without your commentary." In a humbling gesture from the cosmos, a flyer of some kind smacked into his face and startled him. He struggled to get it off as the internal voice laughed at his antics. When he managed to pull the paper from his face, the guards had passed with nary a glance. "Hardy har har, demon. At least they didn't see us." He looked down at the sheet in his hands and read over it. "A carnival? Might be a good place to lay low, blend in with some weirdos, maybe even follow it out of town. Fancy a bit of a diversion?" Of course, I love traps and tricks. "What was that?" Pay me no mind. The half-orc chuckled dryly as he started to walk to the location on the flyer. "Easier said than done, pal."
As the dwarf patrols around the town, he notices a bright-colored flyer posted on the bulletin board. Curiosity gets the better of him and he checks it out. "Ha ha! The Witchlight Carnival! Looks like I'll finally be settled in a town they're visiting!" He continues his patrol awaiting eagerly for the carnival's arrival.
I already have plenty of good applicants, so last call is today - I will send out invitations to the campaign tomorrow. Thank you for everyone that has submitted - I wish I could take them all!

Alys Grint swipes back her rain-soaked hair and blinks at the colorful poster in disbelief. "The Witchlight Carnival?" she asks nobody. Her reply is the shushing of the rain.
She reads the details. "Well, if this isn't just butter on biscuits. Haven't been in years!" she says with a genuine grin. She frowns. "Not really a good time to go though..."
The street is filling up with muddy puddles. The silhouettes of houses are little comfort, all barred and dark. A biting wind whips the rain a little harder and Alys chuckles in answer. This nights work would likely make little difference, in the end.
"Ah, what the hells," she decides. She pulls out a folded sheet of paper and shreds it. "There's enough trouble ahead. It can wait til I get back."
SORRY I MISSED YOUR POST, hopefully I can at least be considered.
Dracor squints his eyes as he glances towards the glittering carnival lights. "Ya know.... I deserve some fun... I think I have earned it." The gold and silver scaled dragonborn would say to himself with a smile. The colorful lights would dance across his polished scales as he adjusts the fine leather sack resting across his shoulder. His muscles ached under his fine clothing with each step, threatening to remove the toothy child-like grin on his face.
I did consider everyone that sent me a note. I got a lot more interest, and really every single applicant could have been a good fit. I struggled a bit, but I did eventually settle on 5, and those have been sent a PM invite.
For everyone else, I am sorry you didn't get selected into this game. No one was a clear no - but I tried to balance preferences and ideas along with what I though would work. If we end up with some attrition (which is almost always going to happen in PbP), I will first look to this list and invite others to join in.
Thank you for your interest!

A carnival might be the perfect opportunity I need to, well, profit from the patrons. And a little fun diversion won't hurt, either.
