So many PbP campaigns die young: DMs burn out or overextend themselves by launching too many campaigns; players ghost the group or fade away, citing unforeseen obligations; and so on.
A fellow player and I want to change that. We're looking for a committed DM who enjoys storytelling, knows the rules, and wants to run a campaign to completion.
In return, the fellow player and I will reciprocate, staying the course, posting reliably, and cocreating the story with vibrant, fun characters who have compelling backstories.
We are in the CET time zone, but we can play with a global group. We can post once per day, on average, and don't mind being botted on occasions such as family holidays when we are unable to post.
Above all, we will communicate clearly when things come up that interfere with our availability, which they sometimes do. We won't leave you or our fellows players guessing and waiting.
We'd prefer to play Rime of the Frostmaiden (I have a character that I adore who made it to 3rd level in Icewind Dale before the campaign fizzled out), but we're open to anything.
We suggest a tight group of three or max four players selected by the DM after careful recruiting to screen wafflers. We might be able to suggest a player or two.
Unfortunately I'm not a DM, but if you find someone, I'd love to be considered as an additional player. I've been playing for maybe a year and a half, and have been a part of several PbP games, but like you said, they all fizzle out and die, mostly from inactivity. I'm always looking for a game with players that will post frequently and consistently. I enjoy building characters for fun so I have at least 2 of every class ready to go so I can fill any role that a party needs. If we end up playing on Discord I'm pretty well versed in the Avrae bot if the games goes that route. I wish you luck finding an DM and if you do, I hope you'll keep me in mind. Thanks!!

No promises, but our DM, weathervision, has kept this The Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign going despite two waves of drop-outs. The agreement is that if I and the other remaining player continue playing actively through the end of Hither, then he'll run another round of recruiting as we start the next portion of the adventure in Thither. I imagine that we'll be adding at least 2 players, maybe more. Note that we did an extra level-up because we went through most of Hither with just 3 characters, so I'm guessing that we'll make level 4 before we start Thither.
There have been a few stiff fights (at the Leaning Tower and especially at the Brigands' Tollway), but there's also a lot of roleplay and some whimsical touches, so it's probably not everyone's cup of tea. But feel free to take a look, and if you like the style, keep an eye out for when Finley and Valrieth make it out of Hither (probably before the end of 2023). Pace is normally 1 - 2 posts per day, and the players have all been pretty chill and collaborative. I know that TWBtW is a bit of a railroad, but I've found the campaign to be fun, especially if you're fond of fairytales and a mix of role play, combat, and skills-based challenges.
I am currently running a PbP for four players, and we are all enjoying the experience immensely. We have had two drop-outs due to commitment issues, but if you and your friend are truly interested in a long-term game, shoot me a PM and I will send you a link to a) the original recruitment thread and b) the first three chapters of the campaign, so you can get a taste of the setting.
Hi all, thank you for your replies. We have found a fantastic DM.
He is going to do a recruitment post for a fourth player, so be on the lookout. The campaign will be Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
@nightbird1219, you would be welcome to apply on his recruitment post. I and the rest of the players are fine with anyone of any experience level joining, as long as they can commit. Commitment and reliability are the issues we're trying to overcome.
I for one can only post about once per day, on average, so it's not even a huge commitment, just a long-term one -- with the aim of finishing a campaign, finally :)
