hey, this is my first try at running a PBP i have significant experience with D&D 5e and have run a couple (mostly unsuccessful) short campaigns, if this still sounds good to you feel free to apply.
this is set in a world that is essentially the forgotten realms but with some of my own lore fit in, the adventure will begin with Lost Mines Of Phandelver and if it goes well we may continue from there.
if you roll a natural one on an attack roll or ability check i will require you to make a flat roll and beat a certain DC if you fail something bad happens (hidden roll to decide between, damage weapon, break weapon, hit self, or hit ally)
a natural one rolled on a saving throw results in the closest equivalent to the attacker rolling a crit on an attack roll. (usually double dice on damage)
you can use anything from the PHB, or DMG, if you want to use something from another sourcebook it will probably be a yes, just run it by me first.
you start at level one with 10 xp each (from the drunk and escorts)
use standard array for stats
you must be good or neutral aligned unless otherwise noted (i dont object to evil characters but this story is based around being heroes, Pm me if you really want to be evil and we can discuss how to fit that into the party)
the party begins having known each other for some time, and done a couple jobs together two uneventful caravan routes and protected a shop from what was technically an attack, but the attacker was drunk and the difficult part was not hurting him. you are all inexperienced and new to the adventuring game. the campaign begins when your patron, a dwarven man of middling age named who finds jobs for you offers you another escort job. this pays above average, at ten gold apiece, to compensate for increased risk. its a caravan of goods bound for the town of phandalin.

your experience with d&d and ttrpgs in general:
a fantasy story you would suggest:
character name: (if like me, you struggle with coming up with names i suggest https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/ its got a truly shocking number of options)
race and class: (pretty much any sourcebook other than mmom, also yuan ti pureblood, peace cleric, and satyr, are off limits. UA is on a case by case basis, no homebrew. feats and multiclassing will be allowed, but don't do coffeelock or something.
backstory: (a paragraph, maybe two, keep in mind your character is an inexperienced adventurer)
character sheet: (doesn't have to be dnd beyond but it would be preferable)
This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

My experience with d&d and ttrpgs in general: Been playing and DM'ing DnD 5ish years now, though not super intense. I've also been reading about many other games. Currently i am in a major Lancer deep-dive
A fantasy story i would suggest: Erebos: It is not entirely fantasy. Its about a video game thats manipulates players to do tasks in the real world to achieve an evil goal. The story follows the protagonist being immersed into the game when he discovers that something is wrong.
Character name: Orland Tecarro
Race and Class: Human(variant) Divine Soul Sorcerer
Backstory: Orland was the apprentice of phandalins doctor and was drafted into the military as a medic. There he was confronted witht the brutality of war. He has seen many wounds in his life but what he witnessed was too much for him to bare. He was performing an operation on a mortally wounded solder when he broke. He held onto the closest thing he could, the spear of the patient, and walked out of the tent and did not stop. He fled into the forest where he broke down completly. He cried and pleaded for help and was eventually heard by an emissary of Illmater. He was offered help under the condition that he will not run from responsibilities anymore and will offer help himself when ever he can. Fearing severe punishment for abandoning his station Aster decided to head back to phandalin. When he found shelter in one of the many taverns in neverwinter he heard a dwarf looking for people to deliver wares to the town and promptly offered his assistance, fulfilling his promise and earning a coin while doing so.
Thank you for your consideration, I had taken a break from PBP for a while but am looking to get back into it.
your experience with d&d and ttrpgs in general: I have always had an interest in D&D and TTRPGs. I have never had an opportunity to play D&D as a player but have ran a couple games for my young children. I have DM'd a few games on this site through Play-by-post and have played in quite a few in the past.
a fantasy story you would suggest: I really enjoyed the Clockwork Vampire Chronicles by Andy Remic.
character name: Slag
race and class: Warforged Fighter (Rune Knight)
backstory: Slag was created roughly 30 years ago by an old dwarf named Slate Glimmersteel . His purpose was to act as a protector and body guard to Slate, Slate's property, and his warforged creations. While most of Slate's creations were beautiful masterpieces... Slag was not one of them. He was created to be a brutal and efficient tool. Most of his life was simply spent standing and watching for threats. Often times when Slag determined the area to be safe, he would instead watch and learn all he could about his "fathers" craft. The old dwarf would often discourage him from trying to learn the skills that brought him to life... believing that he was "not the right tool for that job". As Slate's skill increased (and his wealth), he chose to build a better protector with both beauty and brawn... a protector that would not distract from his "higher quality" creations. Although Slag is a magnificent protector... he desires to be more and to prove himself to his creator. Seeing his father create his replacement, Slag set out to find a higher purpose and to prove to Slate and himself that he is worth more than a pile of scrap iron and chains.
your experience with d&d and ttrpgs in general: I have played dnd 5e for the past 4 years and dnd 3.5 for 7 before that. I'm pretty new at the whole PbP method of dnd play.
a fantasy story you would suggest: to be honest I don't have any particular story... I'm open for anything
character name: Lucas Crestarm
race and class: human / fighter
backstory:
Lucas Crestarm, a rugged and determined human fighter, hails from the modest village of Cresthaven, nestled amidst the towering peaks of the Stormspire Mountains. From a young age, Lucas was enthralled by tales of valor and heroism, spun by the village elders during frosty nights by the hearth. His father, a skilled blacksmith, passed down his love for forging weapons and armor, and Lucas soon became known for his craftsmanship. However, Lucas yearned for something more than the quiet life in Cresthaven. His ambitions led him to leave his hometown, bidding farewell to his family and the life he had always known.
With a blade forged by his own hands and the stories of adventurers echoing in his heart, Lucas set out on a quest to make a name for himself in the vast world.
your experience with d&d and ttrpgs in general: I've been playing dnd5e for three yearss now! I started playing with my girlfriend on an livestream!
a fantasy story you would suggest: Definitely the inherietance cycle. I had an friend who namedAll of thier characters after people from the series
character name: Kanjuro
race and class: Custom Lineage from Tasha's a level one wizard!
backstory: Kanjuro grew up in Phanadalin with his parents whom we merchants. While learning the trade and conversing with a few adventurer's he'd picked up a few spells mostly cantrips of course but his parent were very strict with him and did not want him to learn anything aside from the trade. So while keeping the shop in order and really growing into his own as a shop keeper it all came to a head when he was secretly practicing magic in the restroom and he sent a rogue firebolt into the store burning it down. As a failed merchant he blearily spends his days drinking and wondering if his parent were right.
thats enough players and nobody else is posting so we will be starting now.
dragonmage, if someone leaves i will send you a message to see if you remain interested.
everyone else post a description of what your character looks like along with what you are doing for the first day of the trip
one of you need to drive the wagon (not taking any proficiencies) and the rest can ride in the back (i had stated information that was incorrect, you arent guarding someone else traveling you are bringing the supplies with you being the only ones with the wagon)
here is the actual text of what you were told about the adventure which i somehow misread earlier
Gundren Rockseeker asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days’ travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found “something big,” and that he’d pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen’s Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to “take care of business.”
everything about already knowing him is still true however

Slag sits next to his Kenku companion was they continue their trip. The wood and iron beneath the warforged creeks and moans with every bump in the road as it struggles to support his weight. when standing, Slag is nearly seven foot tall and appears to be mostly made from mismatched heavy dwarven armor. his face is mostly covered by large beard of braided chains... an attempt to make the warforged seem more dwarven in nature. on his back he carries a large iron shield, and on his belt he has a Longsword.
Slag would turn to look towards the tree, trying to see what may have startled the birds.
"Yes, being able to fly would be very useful.. it is much easier to watch for threats from above.." Slag would reply while still focusing on the tree. A few moments later if he sees no threat he would turn to look towards Kloxi. This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Slag would stand up before stepping out of the wagon, sending it rocking back-and-forth for a short time. Once on the ground, the heavy warforged would draw his large iron shield and longsword.
