Space, the final frontier These are the voyages of the Starship Elyria Its five year mission To explore strange new worlds To seek out new life And new civilizations To boldly go where no person has gone before...
So...basically, I really like sci-fi, Star Trek in particular, and 5e. I realize Star Trek has an RPG but I understand 5e so I thought why not put them together? The premise of the storyline is Star Trek era Discovery post Battle of the Binary Stars. You and your Starfleet vessel the Elyria 'missed out' on the conflict as you were on a five-year mission, in year three, unable to return to the fight. The war has since stopped with the tentative peace accords with the Klingon Empire and your captain was directed by Starfleet to complete your mission. You will be an already recognized team of science, security, or medical officers. You will not be bridge crew and your primary objectives would be running scientific missions, exploration missions, and of course running into hostile folks.
Races: Some races pre and post timeline, because why not, will be re-classed as the alien races in the Federation and beyond. Human = duh, Elf = Vulcan, Halfing =Andorians, Dragonborn = Gorn/Voth, Gnomes =Ferengi, Warforged = Androids, Aasimars = Betazoid, etc... you got a 5e race will figure out how to restyle it as a Stark Trek race!
Classes: Since magic is a questionable addition I would like and expect it to be RP'd and restyle as something scientific or a playable race attribute. I was thinking the best class fits are: Artificer, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Monk, Cleric magic users are allowed but I think a wizard would be best. I can see any of the classes working really if you're willing to adapt it to the Star Trek-like world concept.
Everything else can be collaboratively agreed upon; it's conceptual at the moment and am I keen to design a playable game.
We are starting at level 3; consider your character just graduated from Starfleet Academy and this voyage is their first long trip in space.

Spock, Data, Picard, and Warf... so hard to choose. They’re all awesome. But TNG is my favorite.
name - Hase Hotaka
Human v
Wizard - transmutation
Background - shipwright
Backstory: Hase Hotaka has worked his way as engineer up and out of the shipyards, and is ready to take himself out into space. It’s only by seeing the ship in action that he’ll see inspiration come to him for newer, better designs.
He has seven brothers and sisters. One of them sort of worries him, due to an obsession hardlight constructs. Still, he tries to relate, and has studied up just a little on mechanical drones and constructs so that his sibling can maintain a touchstone with someone.
Klingon and at this period in the timeline Klingons aren't yet a people in the a Federation planet. They wouldn't be on the Elyria crew yet and will all likely be combatants.

Favorite Star Trek Character as well as series/film and why: Tom Paris, I enjoyed his arc from brash young pilot to responsible member of the team.

Name: Sulac
Race: Kelpien (Firbolg)
Class: Monk
Subclass: Way of the Cobalt Soul
Position: Security officer
Backstory: Sulac is one of the first Kelpien's to join Star Fleet after the events on his homework forced him through the vahar'ai. Having witnessed first hand the attempted genocide of his people by the Ba'ul and hearing of the appearance of the Red Angel he devoted himself to gaining strength and the ability to make sure that something like that could never happen again. As such he requested to join Star Fleet to learn about the new technologies and other worlds and take the knowledge back home one day. He is a devoted member of the new Temple of the Red Angel.
Favorite Star Trek Character as well as Series/Film and why: Voyager, Having no support, but maintaining Integrity Harry Kim, "Green" at first, but matures and grows (would've liked more, though.)
Name: R'akon

Subclass: Psi Warrior (don't worry, I have it all "teched out")
Ability scores: 12111512159
Position: Science Officer; Quantum Mechanics (also Astrophysics, & Computer Sciences, but not as much)
Backstory: Growing up on Caiti Prime surrounded by science and technology in his parent's home, it was always his life's dream to join Starfleet. His inventiveness and strong sense of justice helped him earn a posting on the U.S.S. Elyria, and he was eager to prove himself. While he never actively sought out conflict, his drive to protect others left him devastated when he realized that his best friend, Nekuro, was posted on the U.S.S. Yeager when it was destroyed by the I.K.S. Tl'huch at the Battle of the Binary Stars. Three years later, he now his focuses hopes to create technology to prevent bloodshed, even in hostile situations.

Favorite Star Trek series/film and why: First series ever watched was Enterprise, thus it will always hold a special place in my heart as favorite (Discovery and Voyager make very close second and third places)
Favorite Star Trek Character and why: I'm not sure I really have an answer for this. Just too many to pick. Maybe Stametz from Discovery? They give the man insane storylines for his character and he totally makes you believe them all.
Name: Kevix
Race: Want to play a Denobulan, scoured the races and the only one that called out to me was Vedalken--let me know what you think/if you think of something better
Class: I'm thinking Sorcerer--I know that is a very magic class, but what I would basically do is take every instance of the word magic and replace it with "scientific talent". Want to learn to spell "burning hands"? Actually, that's a little device I invented that shoots flame from my fingers.
Subclass: Tempted to choose Wild Magic because the idea of a character who's always creating new inventions just begs for them to go wrong a lot. But I know a lot of DMs and players who frown on that subclass because of the chaos it can cause. So backup is Clockwork Soul--this also works very well with the inventor/engineer angle.
Position: Science officer/engineer/inventor
Backstory: Kevix grew up on Denobula but was always getting in trouble for her crazy inventions. Her parents decided that she needed a good outlet for her obsessive scientific mind, so they approached her with the idea of attending an off-world school. Kevix chose Starfleet because she'd always wanted to explore the galaxy.
A recent last minute project has taken over my free time. I have made obligations to other games and can't in good conscious start another knowing my current work and PbP load. Hopefully we can revisit this game in the New Year!
