The Setting: Adeh, the Jewel of the Kol Desert. A thriving canyon metropolis dominated by Half-Elven noble houses. Home to various societies, guilds, and gangs. The city is broken up into several districts, some of which exclude most members of the "lower races" (Halflings, Gnomes, Dragonborn) Five great houses scheme against one another to influence the Shah, who is the nominal ruler of the city. Powerful magics and artifacts are common, though only available to those with great wealth or power of their own. Lost ruins and treasures abound in the desert. Rumors of rogue constructs traveling from the ancient Gnomish homeland in the East are becoming increasingly common. You hear whispers of a brewing rebellion among the lower races. Apparently the famous chef Matorolio has created an incredible new dish...
The Format: Discord Play by Post. A die-roller bot is available. I work quite a lot and have a toddler, but my job sometimes allows time to post while on the clock, so updates should be frequent. I am running this game to try to grow as a DM, it is entirely possible that it will not work out and I may decide I cannot commit as much time as I've hoped. However I hope to be able to play fairly frequently for quite a while, so if you're willing to see what happens, please apply.
Applications: Tell me a little about yourself, your playstyle, and what kind of character you'd like to make.
Please Note: In the linked document, the class and race restrictions are primarily to prompt character creation. They are not strictly enforced. If you would like to play something differing from the common choices given, or play an exotic race, please write me a cool backstory or work with me to create one. Exceptions are welcome if you are willing to provide justification!
I'm not a huge fan of munchkinning, or powergaming. The restrictions in the setting are there to encourage roleplaying and give characters a bit of flavor from the start. If you build an uber-specialized character to excel at one thing they will occasionally shine, but I will also put them in situations that do not play to their strengths.
Furthermore, feel free to skip most of the document. It is a primer on the setting, but if you want to go into the world blind, on your own head be it. I may refer you to it if I deem it appropriate or don't have the time to type out long explanations.
Please feel free to repond in the thread rather than PMing me, and thanks for looking!
3. Would a yuan-ti pureblood or warforged be okay to make as a character? Because I've got some good backstories for these.
Well for my application, my name is Trevor, 21, in college, and only recently started playing. I love roleplay, but a good fight is always fun. The two ideas I have are either a warforged paladin that was just recently dug up/found somewhere it had been stuck, or a yuan-ti rogue from the desert trying to accomplish a mission in Adeh.
Very interested in playing! Name's JT, 21, artist, been playing dnd for a few years, mostly as a dm but I've had a couple chances to play here and there. No idea what character I wanna play yet, I do have a soft spot for warlocks and casters in general though. A desert druid might also be cool. Will take a look through the lore.
I would love to play in this, My name is Jack, age 19, I've been playing the game for a while, but only just started joining online groups. I've been a player and a DM before, so i know things from both sides of the table. My favoured character to play would be a spellcaster, more damage focused at that, so between sorcerer, wizard or warlock, leaning towards sorcerer. unsure on the race yet, but i will check the linked document. My discord is Mooseburg#4916 .
Heyho! I'm Leon, 22 and starting my major soon. As of now, i think i've got to play more D&D online in this forum than i every managed to with some real groups, but i've grown to like the flexibility it offers. Only been a player so far, but i'm learning a great deal about DM'ing from watching people on here. I've had to realize that i'm often going for the newer or rather unestablished options for the charakter creation, so this might be a good campaign for me to try out something more standard. On the other hand, i tend to invest a lot of time into backstories, normally writing 5 pages just to get the outline straight and i got a pretty cool idea after reading through your concept. We do seem to have a pair of casters already though, and i don't know if you would deem the story fitting to your adventure, so i guess i will rather wait for everyone else to settle on something rather than creating the charakter right now.
I just got into a campaign with a half orc character so I'm leaning more towards the halfling druid now. Figure he'll be very chaotic, almost anarchic, but is also smart and ambitious and has no problem playing along or laying low until the right moment. On a grand scheme he'd like to see his people rise to a more affluent place, equal with the more dominant races, but he'd settle for just watching those pretentious ******** fall.
I've got the idea of creating someone related to one of the Five Houses, more precisely the Qayima. As i mentioned before, i don't know to what extent you allow our characters to interfere or be part of the setting, but i was thinking about a Half-elf that was either the undecorous child of two half-elven parents (or something in that direction) or she was found by one of the caravans striding through the desert and without any known family members, the Qayima took her in. In both versions, she would be a hidden child living in seclusion and without much knowledge of the pompous world the five houses normally claim for themselves. But im guessing its easier to agree on such terms via pm's.
Apologies everyone. Took me a while to get back to this. All four of you are welcome to join. I'll be PMing you with the discord link. We can discuss characters et al there via PM. Please head on over to the server at your convenience and say hello. If you have the resources to build your character in Beyond that's great, I haven't purchased anything as I use my IRL DM's permissions. Otherwise paper is fine, just upload a picture of your character sheet I suppose. I'll be addressing specific questions in PM as well.
I'm 26. I played ttrpg's for two years when I was in undergrad. Currently in graduate school getting my master's in physics and wanting to play again. Currently DMing a 5e pbp on a discord server and using avrae bot for dice rolls and character sheet management. I really enjoy the game I'm hosting and really want to play as a character as well. I like the setup you have for this adventure. What is everyone playing as? Would you allow Tortle as an alternative race? (maybe frowned upon due to their reptilian look resembling dragonborn?)

Bump for visibility!
Hello, just a few questions.
1. Point buy, roll, or standard
2. What level character would you want
3. Would a yuan-ti pureblood or warforged be okay to make as a character? Because I've got some good backstories for these.

Chronicles of Arden: Sheercleft - Vark Galestone | Half-Orc | Storm Sorcerer
Chronicles of Arden: Hunters - Caio Cypherien | Shadar-Kai | Inquisitor Ranger
Oh also, definitely down to make a tank or healer if we end up lacking

After looking through the lore, actually thinking a half-orc eldritch knight would be cool, orr a halfling CoM druid
Chronicles of Arden: Sheercleft - Vark Galestone | Half-Orc | Storm Sorcerer

1. Any method you prefer. Rolls done on discord, pretty please.
2. Thinking 3rd level to facilitate flavor/characterization
3. I'm down with alternative races, concepts sounds great!
So when will you pick who joins?

Hello,
Still looking for players?
I'm 26. I played ttrpg's for two years when I was in undergrad. Currently in graduate school getting my master's in physics and wanting to play again. Hey, my apologies. I thought I had edited the post to closed but apparently I did not. Unfortunately we are full.
