You're all sat at a table in the Common Hall, having eaten the evening hot meal. Frel, the frazzled-looking human barmaid, is starting to clear your plates and cutlery away when there are footsteps coming down the stairs in the North-Western corner of the hall. You watch as an athletically-built tiefling woman with short black hair and black horns that are almost fully curled ram-like horns steps down into the Hall. Her silver eyes scan the room for a moment before landing on the table you are all sat at and she strides forward with purpose. You recognise her as Kata, the Delegator of the Guild, whose job it is to organise and designate jobs. You also know that she is one of the Triplets, three tieflings who everyone presumes are related and who, together, form the main leadership of the guild.
"Recruits," she says with her characteristic, slightly amused voice, "If you've finished you meals, I have a job for you that starts tomorrow." She pulls out a scrolled up piece of paper and hands it to one of you, "A Gundren Rockseeker has requested an escort for a wagon of goods, destination: Barthen's Provisions in Phandalin. You are to retrieve the wagon from the South Gatehouse's warehouse, using the contract I've just given you, and set off tomorrow morning, a few hours after dawn. Gundren should be meeting you there with a warrior friend of his. Upon delivery of the wagon, the owner of Barthen's Provisions will give each of you 10 gold, providing, of course, the wagon's goods arrive as they should."
She looks over you all again, "Let's see you do. Once you get to Phandalin, ask around for Reyrieth, she's an retired guild-member, but she might have some other jobs situated around Phandalin proper for you. Or come back here." She shrugs, "if you don't find the countryside to your taste."
Having said her piece, she drifts over to another table and begins chatting to a grizzled looking human -who looks slightly like a bear due to the wild mane of hair and the huge beard he's sporting.

Koga stands up says his piece and walks to the bunks to bed down for the night. If you’ve spent any amount of time with Koga you’d see this as normal behavior. Actually, he said a lot more than what you’re used to hearing from him just now.

"Ah good, some work. I'll also go to bed soon but ill check in with the barkeep first." Roland leaves the table and heads towards the bar.
He says to the barkeep: "Thank you for the food, do you require any help with cleaning or with the dishes?"
Tagg chuckles good naturedly, “You’re welcome friend, but you don’t need to worry about the dishes or cleaning, Cookie’s rather protective of her kitchen, you know!” He lowers his voice conspiratorially and widens his eyes a little, “How’d you think I lost my arm?” (You’re pretty sure he’s joking).

You’re all (unless you’re early risers) woken by the breakfast bell, a much tinklier bell that rings roughly a half hour before breakfast starts being served, roughly an hour and a half before you have to be at the Southern Gate (the journey there is about 20minutes from the Quad). As usual, the food is good fare. As you leave the Hall, a red skinned tiefling steps seemingly out of nowhere, their long black hair obscuring much of their face. You recognise them as Koda, the Master of Spies.
Koda’s black eyes pass over you, emotionless as usual, and in an unsettling monotone, they say, “Off on a trip. Down to Phandalin. The road is dangerous. The ...town... is dangerous. Ears should stay open. Maybe you bring me news. If you come back” There’s a strange, almost-titter from the androgynous tiefling and they tilt their head to one side, “Don’t die...” It’s the most you’ve ever heard Koda say. Then they move past you with an almost unnatural grace and head to the bar. You see Tagg greet them, seeming a little uneasy.
You move on past the gatehouse manned by Mirr, a female tabaxi with brown fur that’s greying around her muzzle, and head towards the South Gatehouse. Even though it’s early, the weather is already rather mild and there are plenty of people already moving around the city. The Gatehouse itself is an unimpressive building that only really has three walls on the ground floor, where wagons and such are stored.
You are stopped by a human woman in Guard’s uniform as you approach the archway openings to the main floor.
”Ah, can I help you?” She asks.

She gives you all a look over, not seeming phased by the motley appearances of your group, “You guys are with the Bannered Blades? Come this way,” and she leads you over to a counter-like structure in the central arch, slipping behind it and pulling out a thick ledger. She asks for the contract you were given, then unrolls it. She spends a while checking it over, then says, “Okay, Okay, everything seems to be in order.” She looks over her shoulder and shouts, “Hal! Bring wagon 42 out to the front!” She checks the contract again, then gives Koga a quizzical look, “Says here that you guys are meant to be travelling with a Gundren Rockseeker. He set off last night, just before the last shift ended. I was the one that signed him out.”

So I guess he wanted a head start? He did seem kind of rushed, especially to be setting off then, I mean, the last shift ends about two hours before sundown at this time of year. And the best overnight stopping points are a good six hours away from the gate, we only stay on that late for incomers really.” As she finished saying this, a large Orc leads a wagon drawn by two oxen over to you all. The wagon is packed full of a range of mining equipment and supplies, and long-lasting foodstuffs.
”Wagon 42,” he says gruffly.

Turning to Koga "Why would someone who is suppose to be escorted by a full group take a wagon and leave, with just one person, rushing out just simply the night before. Something doesn't seem right already. We should probably hit the road quick and see if we have any chance of catching up to them." Fluxx will then walk out and get into the front of the wagon. Whether driving or simply riding shotgun if someone else wishes to drive.
Lavandula decides to check the library after breakfast. He is looking to find any information on Phandalin before they make their way out (Investigation: 9 - 11).
He then heads out with the rest of the group. Once they get the wagon, he will walk behind it on the road, keeping an eye out on anything in the rear; Koda said to keep the ears open, so he will do just that. Lavandula has always looked up to Koda, they are the Master of Spies after all. I will talk to the group after a few minutes on the road:
Souds like this Gundren fellow is up to something! I wonder if this mission will be as simple as Kata made it sound to be...
As he follows the wagon, he will try to peek into it, without actually touching anything or moving things around (Perception: 8).
Good to have a job finally. Sickle would have played a few hands of Three Dragon Ante with Lavandula, being pretty fair at it in his own right. Then he would have excused himself to go to his room for the evening.
The next day...
Sickle is a bit late for breakfast, despite his usual penchant for punctuality. He eats quickly and sets off with the others to the South Gatehouse.
Overhearing Koga and Fluxx, he says, Agreed. Such a change in plans before atrip like this..to leave the safety of a party of our size without contacting the Guildhouse. Something must have stirred him on. Let’s go.
Sickle will then walk alongside the cart, keeping a wary eye on the road ahead.
(Perception not really required: There’s sacks that are closed up, but have the dusty look of flour sacks; loads of pick axes, lanterns, oil, rope. Enough for a decently sized mining operation to be set up, or continue for a while)
(Can I get a rough marching order, the wagon’s too full for anyone to ride in it, per se, but there’s room for two at the front if people want to take turns driving. And I’m also going to ask for anyone whose character would be paying close attention to the road/surroundings to make a perception roll in a spoiler.)
(If struggling to roll, basic roll tab on the dice icon seems to be working still)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Did I find anything in the Quad’s library about Phandalin?)
Lavandula is walking behind the cart, and he is just playing around with one of his daggers, so not really paying attention to the surroundings. He is keeping his ears open though.
(Perception: 16)
(I used Disadvantage since I was slightly distracted by my dagger..)
