I am currently running the Out of the Abyss campaign module and I fear some of my players have gone missing. I will recruit two more to bring the party up to 4 active players plus the two I still hope will come back.
What I am looking for:
Post daily on weekdays. Posting on weekends is optional. Running the module will take a long time.. probably a year or two. Be in for the long haul.
Give all of us (the DM and the players) a heads up when you need to be AFK for life reasons... it happens, it's OK. Just let us know.
Have not played Out of the Abyss before. Let other people experience the module please.
Your backstories will be a little bit pre-defined. The party is currently in a standoff with a group of bandits, which would be how you are introduced. Other than being in the underdark on a mission gone to the crapper, the rest of your backstory would be your own.
If you are selected, you'll have to read a couple pages worth of posts to understand the situation you will be introduced into.
You will be starting at level 3.
You may be responsible to play NPC characters as they come and go.
What you need to know about me and how I run the game:
I use maps. I post a map to the official thread once per round. You will need to follow the other players and NPC moves to know where everyone is on the map mid-turn. If once per round is not enough for you, speak to me directly and I can provide you access to Roll20 (is what I use).
I also post a round summary in the form of a table once per round. Nothing in the previous round is written in stone until everyone has taken their next turn. This is to allow skills and abilities that rely on reactions to be useful. Even in the slow posting environment of PBP.
Even then, because of PBP, there are some relaxing of Rules as Written to account for the nature of PBP.
What I need from you:
I need you to at least write in your replies that you understand that running a module where everyone posts once per day will take a lot of time. 1 to 2 years. Please make it clear that you understand this and intend to be around that long.
You have to make a character that works in a team. If your choice of alignment starts to ruin the enjoyment of the other players, I will warn you only once then your character will be written out.
Also, if you wish, there is an NPC I haven't been able to get rid of yet, that was a player that quit. The character is a Goliath female fighter with a matronly spin to her. You can pick up that character if it interests you, but you'll have more reading to do as you will should know what has been happening from the beginning.
P.S. We are not far along in the module at all. You will not be missing too much by jumping in at this point. You can easily get the gist of what is happening with a little bit of in character interaction with the other party members.
EDIT: The party already has a Cleric, a Ranger, a Barbarian and a Warlock. I would prefer not to double up on classes. This is just my personal preference for running a game.
I am happy to jump in. I will be around until the completion however long it takes (with the exception of an unforeseeable life circumstance). Thinking of party balance, what classes are already in the campaign. And is there any race restrictions, either from the people in the current standoff or just generally. Final question, how do you want stats done?

I will not allow any races that can fly, swim or climb. No UA, no Eberron, no Bloodhunter.
Edit again: The current player races are Hill Dwarf, Halfling, Mountain Dwarf and Half Drow. Feel free to double up on races. Whatever you choose, the race has to be coming from the surface, where it was recruited to head to the Underdark. If your race is originally an Underdark race, your backstory should explain why you ended up on the surface and why you're OK returning to the underdark on a mission.
A wood elf rogue, good at spotting things and sneaking, not so good with talking. (looked at the original recruitment thread and have gone point buy like everyone else)
The Assassin subclass for rogues is, in my opinion, a poorly thought out concept.
You have advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn’t taken a turn in the combat yet, and any hit you score against a creature that is surprised is a critical hit.
The DM determines who might be surprised. If neither side tries to be stealthy, they automatically notice each other. Otherwise, the DM compares the Dexterity (Stealth) checks of anyone hiding with the passive Wisdom (Perception) score of each creature on the opposing side. Any character or monster that doesn't notice a threat is surprised at the start of the encounter.
My problem with the Assassin subclass is the signature feature of the class
Can only ever happen once per encounter
Can be foiled by your own party
You have to win the initiative contest, because once the creature has a turn, surprised or not, it is no longer considered surprised
You have to roll To-Hit and actually hit, even when you win initiative and the creature is surprised
You have to hope your Crit roll doesn't suck, because everyone has those crits that do less than normal maximum damage.
If you accept that your signature ability will, when speaking about mathematical probability, happen as often as your chances of winning the lottery, then and only then will I allow you to choose this subclass.
I like what I hear from your OP. I am ready for a long form pbp campaign and I have a lvl 3 character drawn up and ready to go.
Cassius Dragonsbane - Human Fighter - Cassius is an archer who comes from a clan of hunters. They pride themselves on hunting down (usually evil) dragons and giants and other big creatures and monsters that would be worth bragging about.
I know that it is not very often for the ability to trigger but I was picking based on what I felt fit the character rather than what was powerful. Going back over the other subclasses and actually reading the descriptions, I am changing to swashbuckler. Originally I thought it would basically be just pirates but reading duelists in there means I am happy with it fitting the character.
The sheet has been edited. Erdan now will happily talk to people (though he doesn't like to lie), though he is fairly weak and not that smart either
Backstory (Will edit if needed to fit with the story:
Erdan is a charming elf, very quick to move and speak, though a little slow in the head. He is very eager to please others and will help in any way he can, most often involving a bit of sneaking around.
Erdan was quick to sign up to the expedition to the Underdark. Not being the brightest he was unaware of how dangerous it would be. He was told that he would be able to find lots of treasure while at the same time, making sure that the bad elves (Drow) were not seeming to be making any signs of a surface invasion. On his way, he met up with some other people going to the Underdark for various reasons, and he accompanied them for a time. That was until those bandits captured them in the night.
I've always wanted to try a Dex fighter myself. But yours is way too strong with those rolled stats. Try point buy and see where you are going to make your sacrifices. If you're still happy with the character via point buy, then I'll take it into consideration.

Updated with point buy. Totally agree with your assessment. It was a character that wasn’t chosen for another campaign so the rolled stats were left over.

One of my campaigns in fact. It's a great character, just tough competition.

If you're still recruiting, I have a few characters I've been waiting to try out. I can commit (barring life throwing any major curveballs) to the full length of the campaign. I do have a few questions before finalizing a character sheet. Firstly, do you allow multiclassing? Secondly, what roles are the Cleric, Ranger, and Warlock filling? Are they frontliners or shooting spells/arrows from the back, and does the Warlock have utility spells or blasting spells?
If you're not already full up, I'm interested in joining.
I understand that running a module where everyone posts once per day will take a lot of time. Baring any unexpected life events, intend to be around until the end.
If allowed to join, I'd like to play either a Fallen Aasimar Paladin or a Goblin Bard.
Side note: I love that you use roll20 for your maps. I do the same thing in the adventures I run.
Closing applications. I will choose two from those that have replied in this thread or in PM's. I will contact you if you are chosen. It is always nice to see so much interest and I regret that I can't choose everyone.

After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
Yeah I'm interested as well - and can whip up something based on what the other characters are.

Emphasis is mine. The rules for "surprise" in 5e are:
The DM determines who might be surprised. If neither side tries to be stealthy, they automatically notice each other. Otherwise, the DM compares the Dexterity (Stealth) checks of anyone hiding with the passive Wisdom (Perception) score of each creature on the opposing side.
