The continent of Rul was once united under the Empire, ruled by a Lich Emperor called Rul. However, more than 500 years ago, the lich’s rule stopped and the continent had once again fallen into chaos. Old treaties between cities and races were no longer upheld. Small disagreements grew into blown out grudges and content. Battles replaced talks and a short-lived war tore the Empire apart into a few kingdoms and vast areas of wildlands. Stories are told about the fall of the Great Empire, the lich Rul and his followers. Stories vary, saying that the lich had been killed by a group of brave heroes, or that he had grown bored of ruling and left of his own will.
Now, over 500 years after the fall of the empire, the civilised world consists of The Empire of Rul, the City Confederacy and Easvast. Once, there was also a kingdom of Dwarves, Weslens, but it has fallen silent. There are still dwarves through out the continent, that had left their kingdom before it met its end. The Empire is now ruled by a few old noble families, and the Emperor hails from one of them. It is a harsh place that allows slavery and lets cults and criminals run free, while the noble families only concern themselves with increasing their wealth and power. Separated from the Empire by a vast desert lays the City Confederacy. It consists of five city states – Erden, Collum, Roush, Fiiorm and Anghof; that relay on the City Confederacy to protect them and to establish a constant flow of trade. The city states compete with each other, but they pay little attention to everyone beyond the borders of the Confederacy. Easvast is a mysterious kingdom north of both Empire and City Confederacy. It used to be a prospers place, wealthy in trad and of welcoming atmosphere. However, Eastvast has closed its borders to outsiders a short time ago.
Organisations
The Chroniclers are a mystery as well. They do not operate directly, instead, they use agents and letters, to make their will known. However, their reach is great and they always fulfil their end of the bargain no matter what.
Every city has a Sa’kage, and underground organisation dealing in the shadows of the law. In some cities their presence is overwhelming, while in others, they might consist of but a few petty thieves.
I will be editing this as you learn new information throughout the campaign.
An autumn in The Empire was not like elsewhere. It marked the start of the growing season, and forecasted occasional rainfalls that the country desperately needed. Anywhere else in The Empire, farmers would be readying their fields and inspecting their rain catchers. However, on the north-west edge of the Dust Plains, where the desert meets the mountains and marks the border of The Empire, the lack of settlements caused an eerie silence that was only broken by wheezing of the wind. The wind scattered the desert sand across the ground far in the mountain pass making for uneven footing and a dangerous track to undertake as the sands concealed what lay below.
There, as the morning sun barely made its way past the horizon, six individuals cross paths at the entrance to a mountain pass. The sunlight illuminated the passage between the stony cliffs as if trying to guide the travellers along it. The warm wind blew down the mountain pass, coating the ground, moist with the recent rainfall, with another layer of golden sand, and disrupting any sound that might have come from within.
A short distance from the entrance to the mountain pass, a kenku collects his things and prepares himself to continue on his journey. Five other travellers, coming from slightly different directions, make their way towards the kenku and the mountain pass.
This is where you meet for the first time. Feel free to introduce your characters, and continue as you wish.
As Rutah approached the sun drenched sands he nods towards the Kenku just ahead. "Greetings little one," Rutah says through a headscarf that only reveals his eyes, "It is nice to see another traveler along the desert road." He takes a moment to look around at the rest of the travelers making their way to the pass. "And it seems we are not alone." Rutah pats his hand down on his leg in an attempt to clean the sand from it, then extends his hand still sandy hand forward to the Kenku, "I am Rutah."
Rutah description: Rutah is wearing a headscarf to protect him from the desert sands, only his eyes are visible through it. His clothes is varying colours of brown and tan. He has a walking stick in his left hand and a small pack of belongings strapped to his back. Everything on his person is covered in sand. It is obvious Rutah dislikes the sands as he is constantly patting down his attire in failed attempts to remove the sand from it.
Ignus stands a few feet back from the group, observing as Rutah initiates conversation. Eventually he steps forward. "Greetings all. I am Ignus Olocan of the Old Forests."
The fire Genasi wears little protection from the sun and sand. They seem to bother him little. His light red cloak flows in the breeze. His charcoal skin has glowing, golden tattoos covering it - lines going up and down his arms, neck, and head. They almost look tribal in nature, but more subtle. His hair, a short mohawk, glows golden orange. His eyes glow a similar color as he looks around to inspect the group.
"I don't suppose we're all here by chance, are we?"
Taking long strides forward, giving a friendly smile to the Genasi Dreel shakes his head as he walks a bit past him and responds in a warm tone "I doubt it. Rare to get such an interesting job and then see so many exotic people goin the same direction. I'm Dreel." Holding his hand out to Ignus offering a handshake.
Looking him over, Dreel has a noticeable under bite, as well as some oddly protruding teeth from his lower jaw. Wearing only a pair of simple brown pants which cover his legs and the lower portion of his shell, as well as a chest which is secured to the upper back portion of his shell with rope acting as a large backpack. On the belly of his shell, there appears to be a scar from a puncture wound long healed over mostly covered by some simplistic sky blue swirl tattoos which travel from the scar up onto his large biceps as well as long his neck to the sides of his eyes. Strapped to his hip are a couple javelins within easy reach, and a rectangular shield nearly half as large as the 7' 3" tortle.
"No, I don't believe we are." Jaylen makes.his way towards the center of the group, hand extended in greeting. "I am Jaylen, seeker of knowledge and devotee of Mystra. It's nice to meet all of you." Jaylen is is wearing a long red scarf on his head, but his face remains uncovered. His meticulously groomed goatee is caked with sand, but his bright blue eyes shine with curiosity. He wears a crimson traveling cloak over scale mail that must have once been shiny, but both are now caked in dust. A shield emblazoned with a circle of seven blue and white stars, with red mist flowing from the center hangs off his left arm. Tucked under his arm so he could extend his hand, is a well worn and well used quarterstaff that he has been using as a walking stick.
Enter Baconoid, a bard dressed in a frilly white blouse that only a pirate would wear, jogging down the valley and waving his hands excitedly. He's got a rhythm to his gait, as if he might think he's got a regiment of soldiers stepping along in time behind him.
"Oh.. hello... strangers! This isn't another mirage is it? I've been travelling from the north, through the Dust Plains for the past five days," he says, brushing some dust off his shoulder. "I am Baconoid, a seeker and musician. Tis' quite a coincidence, the lot of us being cast together here."
Clipclop finishes collecting his things. He looks up at the half-orc. Clipclop: (to Rutah[psychically/telepathically] "I'm only little compared to one so tall. You can call me clipclop. what brings you out this far?" Clipclop takes his orb from his right hand into his left and then shakes Rutah's hand.
Clipclop listens to Ignus and Dreel's conversation.
Clipclop turns his head towards Jaylen after he said seeker of knowledge. Clipclop: (to Jaylen[psychically/telepathically] "Anything interesting you wish to share?"
Clipclop adjusts his cloak to help protect himself from any sand being blown by the wind.
Clipclop is average height (for a kenku), wearing a hooded cloak, it mostly covers him up, but its possible to see that he is wearing armor underneath it. he's holding a mysterious looking orb in one his hands, has multiple daggers and bags on his belt, and has a backpack on his back.

"Huh." Rutah scratches his head softly. "Well, I am searching for someone is all, just have to get past here to do so. And you?" Rutah then turns to the rest of the group gathered around, "I would say we are all here for something, am I right?" He lightly taps his walking staff into the ground beneath him as sand and dust fall from his sleeve. He lets loose a grunt of defeat as he watches the dirt fall.
Clipclop: (to Rutah[psychically/telepathically]) "I'm a bit of a mercenary, im looking for work so i can get paid. i do not have a particular destination."

"Well it seems we all are seeking something in some way. Clearly Mystra has put us on this path together." To Clipclop "I could share a great many interesting things, from discourse on the false distinction between arcane and divine magics, to flora and fauna of various extraplanar realms. I think if you had a particular topic in mind I may prove more helpful. Of course you know interesting things, too. For instance how are you able to communicate your thoughts directly into our minds. I know it is no spell, I would have recognized the components. Perhaps Psionics like is common among some creatures in the underdark or the far realm? It is not a trait Kenku are known to posses."
"Jaylen, I believe we will have some wonderful discussions on our journey," Ignus raises a hand, twisting it in the air as a small flame ignites on his palm. It grows slowly until Ignus closes his palm around it and snuffs it out. "I have had these energies coursing through my veins long before I became a wizard. They are not quite arcane, not quite divine, but something else entirely."
Ignus turns to Baconoid and plainly asks, "You know the location of Waldo? Shall we set off, then?"
Clipclop: (to Jaylen[telepathically]) "Your not a boastful one, a seeker a knowledge for sure. You are right kenku do not possess the ability to communicate through psionics. My psychic abilities allow me to overcome the terrible curse that afflicts all kenku. It is true it is not a spell, but it is magic in nature. You can say i have been enchanted, and i can do more than just talk to your mind." "There is no particular knowledge i seek, its sort of... a hobby of mine. When im not collecting gold or trying to find treasures, i seek the other kind of treasure, information."
Clipclop watches Ignus as he ignites fire on his hand.
Clipclop: (to everyone[telepathically]) "I agree with Ignus, theres no time for standing around. If you wish to travel with me, then come along." Clipclop starts walking through the mountain pass. He mimics the sounds of horse hooves hitting the ground as he walks. (hence the name clipclop)

"Yes, Ignus. Waldo's residence is just through this gap in the mountains," Baconoid replies, gesturing towards a narrow pass between the tall peaks. "Those were the directions I was given."
"I.....uh...I know how to cook..." A little caught off guard by people being so open talking to strangers. The tortle rubs back of his head gently as he shrugs "Numbers are a bit safer, so might as well?" Glancing down a bit oddly at the kenku but not voicing a question.
(Will put text color when i get home, on my phone at the moment)
"Same as other people. Just....more probably, given the size difference. I have a couple pounds of spices I always keep on me and with those and some meat I can make something at least a bit better than just rations." He says a bit of an excited tone when he speaks of cooking, obviously rather proud of his stock of goods as he reaches back and pats the chest secured to his back as if to emphasize the point.
Clipclop takes to the barren passage between the mountain peaks. The sun, shining along the mountain pass, hits the kenku’s back and casts a long shadow in front of him. Grains of sand creak under his feet as his weight pushes them into the ground below, but the sound is quickly disrupted by the warm wind blowing past. Suddenly, there is no creak as he steps on the sand. The ground gives way under Clipclop and he begins to lose his footing.

Ignus, following closely behind Clipclop, lunges forward to try and grab him. As he pushes off the sand, he also casts Mage Hand and throws it under his newfound traveling companion, offering what little support it can.
