Hey, thanks for the invite! Very much looking forward to some spooky (and perhaps doomed) adventuring in the shadows. I'm playing Shinrei, a folklorist interested in the supernatural and obscure.
Cassian, a human paladin sympathetic to those who bear curses.
Shinrei, a folklorist bard whose interest in the supernatural has brought him closer and closer to things-best-left-unlearned.
Alaric, a warlock that has found himself manipulated by forces beyond this mortal realm.
Gooterat, a somewhat reluctant sorcerer that has recently discovered a wellspring of arcane power within ... although he does not know where it came from.
Rats, a young halfling desperate to prove an odd theory.
Zepharion, a would-be mage turned scoundrel that was kicked out of his order for malfeasance.

There is a common thread here (other than the two guys with rodent-adjacent nicknames, of course). Each of these characters is driven by something ... something that sets them apart from the rest. For some, that something that has become a bit of an obsession.
Another connection point is the idea of 'reluctance' that some players wrapped into the characters. (I enjoy this trope and employ it often with characters that I play) The rogue, while mechanically a rogue, wasn't really supposed to be a rogue ... but situations and forces beyond his control kind of placed him in that situation. Our warlock ... isn't one of those folks that walked gladly/willingly into his pact ... and will likely spend some time in the game wondering if they can ever find a way to remove themselves from it (even if that is never mechanically the goal, it makes for good drama, IMO). Our sorcerer ... out here just doing what he can to survive ... and then he learns that he is somehow something both more — and in some ways, less —than he previously believed.
Looking forward to getting this one started.

One thing I'd like each of you to consider is whether or not your character is a native of Ravenloft or not. There is no wrong answer, and I'm happy to take a mix of all, some, or none.
I would prefer, however, to have those conversations in your PM thread ... so don't feel as if you have to answer here in the OOC.
In any event, I'm no longer sick as a dog and feel good enough to get back into this.
Thank you very much for your patience, gang.
...
I admit, the timing could not have been worse ... losing momentum right at the beginning of a game sometimes leads to players losing interest and/or withdrawing.
Time for an informal roll call, I suppose. Is everyone still interested in continuing?
Holy crap. It's hard to get six people to respond to an adventure in full swing. The House of Lament has six like minded fools patiently waiting for death or worse in a land of horrors that defy description, birth nightmares, and leave decorated knights wetting their half-plate.
I like this group already.

As much as is possible, when the rolling of dice comes up, I would like to use the die roller contained within your sheets.
The die roller macro on the forum is far too buggy for my taste, and it often makes it difficult to see if you rolled the correct dice or modifiers.
[Also, whenever I make a house rule (which will be identified by the Bolded, Underlined, Large Fontat the beginning of the post), I will link back to it in the first post of the OOC. I find it helpful to have a common place to refer back to previous rulings. So when things like this pop up ... I'll create a hyperlink of it and throw it on the first post in the OOC. That way folks can refresh their memory on stuff without spending fifteen minutes sifting through to OOC trying to find it.]
A wild OOC appears!

Apologies for the radio silence, gang.
Got hit with a nasty flu this last week.
Will be able to get back into this in a couple days.
