Hey all! I've put together a somewhat short survival adventure I would like to run here as a play by post. The adventure will take place in the northern mostly desolate tundra of Aelira (a continent on my homebrew world Weskeilia). Be wary that this will be a bit of a tough adventure; there will be quite a bit of combat, but the #1 threat of this adventure will be the environmental hazards and the constant pressure of exhaustion looming overhead (we will be using the 2024 rules for exhaustion). With exhaustion in play, there is a decent chance of death. Will you get lost in a blizzard, buried in an avalanche, or will you find your way in and out safely?
Players and Characters I'm looking for 4-6 players. Characters will be starting at 4th level. Variant species and Tasha's custom lineages are considered banned content. Please mark in your application if you're using 2014 or 2024 rules (I recommend using 2024, but 2014 is not off limits). In addition to starting equipment, your character will start with 1 set of cold weather clothing and 1 uncommon magic item of your choice.
I own most official 5e content and while I do not currently have a master tier sub, I will pick one up when selections are made. I own no partnered content.
Rolling Stats
Roll 4d6, drop lowest and re-roll 1s once.
I haven't been on site in a while, so I don't know if the manipulated rolls tag has gotten worse or better since, but I recommend making your rolls in a separate post then immediately below in the next post post your application quoting your ability scores.
Don't let your rolls talk you out of posting an application, I have a system I've been using for a few years now that almost all of my players have loved where everyone votes on the set of ability scores they want to use.
Plot Hooks
You're a researcher, sage, archeologist or something of this nature arriving at The Last Hearth, which is a small fortified trading outpost on the northern most edge of civilization, and you're preparing to head out into the unknown on an expedition trying to verify rumors of ancient giant ruins deep within the Skyfrost Tundra.
You've been exiled or are fleeing north. Possibly from a southern kingdom, possibly from the capital city of the Bowen Empire, Noubourg City.
You're a cold weather specialist; as your final task before graduating from the survivalists' guild, you've been tasked with venturing into the Skyfrost Tundra and surviving three days and two nights.
You're a Bowen Empire guard that as been temporarily stationed at The Last Hearth.
You're an adventurer who is simply passing through, but with the rough winter weather you have spent the past few days inside the warm tavern.
You're friends with Grizelda "Grizz" Stonehand, the middle-aged dwarven merchant who is in need of your help.
You're a Bowen Empire scout, making your annual trek along the borders of the unknown ensuring no threats are present, and you've stopped temporarily at The Last Hearth.
You may come up with your own plot hook.

I've wanted to play a winter survival game for a long time! And in a homebrew world, even better! Rolling stats so I can start thinking about a character...
Name: Nazad Species: Human Class (Subclass): Ranger/Beastmaster Background: Guide Uncommon Magic Item: Boots of the Winterland Backstory: The orcs took Nazad to take care of their livestock when he was 10 years old after they killed his family and burned their farm. The orcs made it clear that his own health was tied to that of the animals, so care for them he did and he did well. His hatred for his captors never waned over the 10 years but he could never do more than periodically weaken them through subterfuge. Nazad never grew taller than what he was when he was captured, but he grew up tough, strong for his size, and remarkably fast. He escaped one day when many of the orc warriors were weak from his ongoing efforts to weaken them. He has come here because it is the nearest human settlement around, but given his recent history, it is no surprise that he is unfamiliar with civilized peoples and their ways.
OOC - First frost hit last night, so I am completely in the mood for this sort of adventure!
I was born a trouble maker, looking to cut corners when ever possible. I was arrested for stealing Medicare checks from the local retirement home. I was given a choice, join the military or go to jail. I chose Military, put in the minimum amount of time and in the free time I had, I would go to the library. The military library actually had a robust selection on arcana. I made a pact with one of the Old Ones (Duke Brothers: Randolph and Mortimer). I became a Warlock when not peeling potatoes. I was getting out when my folks sent me a letter stating that Uncle Griz needed assistance. My parents strongly suggested that I go to him 1st and they would have a nice present for me when I returned from the north (needing to bring a certified notarized letter that I did go and help Uncle Griz.
I am a Great great Nephew on his mother's side of Grizelda "Grizz" Stonehand, the middle-aged dwarven merchant who is in need of my help.
Backstory: Iden was a clever child. Born in the city of Noubourg his father always wanted Iden to become a hunter. His father always told him that the outside world was a dangerous place. Yet Iden ignored all of his warnings and daily training instead studying any chance he could. When he turned 12 his father finally gave in and let him train as a wizard at Etexonia a small school for wizards.
From the first day Iden felt like the odd one out. Being an abnormally short child and trained as a hunter most of the other children looked down on Iden. His lack of friends led Iden to focus on Illusion magic. Most of his free time was spent hiding in the library under an illusory wall.
For fifteen years Iden spent learning about the world and arcane domain. During his studies the ancient giant culture was always interesting to Iden. Without a second thought Iden joined an expedition team in search of ancient ruins.
Very interested. Rolling stats and will quote for placeholder character.

Drawn to the wilds beyond his fields, he discovered an ancient grove where he first learned to call upon the spirits of nature, shaping himself into its guardian. Now, as a Circle of the Moon Druid, he ventures into the Skyfrost Tundra, relying on his connection to the land to survive its harsh winters and uncover forgotten secrets. The wind has always called to me. Raised in a remote mountainside temple to The Stormmother (or whatever the god of storms would be in your world), I was taught to understand the chaos and fury of the storms. When her voice last came to me, she sent me north. I am unsure what I'm supposed to do next, but the one thing I am certain of is the answer awaits me at The Last Hearth.

Sanazira Viruvrix is, by this time, very. Very. Very. Very tired of being pushed around. She was always the smallest in her wandering tribe of barbarian (goliaths? half-orcs?); and she was female. And so the stormy temper that in a larger male would have led to a life marked from birth for warrior greatness, in her, only pushed away those few compassionate agemates and elders who would have stood up for her. It actually wasn't that much of a change for the worse when her first solo hunting expedition that was supposed to at least win her the nominal respect of adulthood ended with the Dread Pirate Omgutheth shanghaing her when she wandered too near the coast. He at least had pretensions of gentility that wouldn't allow him to stoop to **** ... which was a good thing for him, as the first of his pirate crew to try it triggered the full fury of her storm totem for the first time in her life, gaining her a place among the pirate crew and a fearsome reputation but not surviving long enough to gain any of the benefit(WIP)
