Hey guys, just started dming campaigns and figured I would add another game to my plate. It’s a home brew setting. I do have a story lined up from 1 - 15 levels but I prefer for the players to dictate where the story actually goes. So more sandbox/open world and you can chose to engage the story or not.
I’m looking for 4-5 players who are willing to work together for some awesome adventures:
no evil characters
Struct rule for fade to black for anything sexual/gratuitous torture
You are welcome to make any character with official content provided you have access to it on Dnd beyond. With the exception of no tieflings or aasimars. Also note that it is common legend in this world when an entity makes a pact with a warlock. Once the warlock dies, the entity takes control of the cadaver.
wizards are trained in specific areas/schools with strict teachings and policing within their training. They have freedom once graduated and carry a license to perform magic.. And non divine spellscasting are frowned upon in some areas.
level 3 characters using standard array or point buy.
for the sake of easing story telling you have all met before and have been traveling together. Expected posting minimum once per day.
look forward to the characters. I’m on a mini vacation so this weekend so I will probably pick characters Wednesday- Friday
Ok lets throw my monk in then, why not, seems less restricted.
Name: Jira Kain Jr.
Race- Half-Elf
Class Monk Sun Soul
Background: Lived with his mother while his father was out adventuring in a band off adventurers. When he was 5, one day, he went to his mother's room ad found her dead. News traveled quickly to his father Jira Kain Sr. who came home quickly to mourn his wife and packed up Jira to take him to local orphanage, where he left them with a pouch of coin raise his son. Jira Sr. put his son in an orphanage for he was sure someone was out to get him, and killing his wife was a warning.
The orphanage Jira grew up in was sort of combination boarding school as well as an orphanage. It had every high standing in the city, for instead of just chewing up and spitting out children when they come of age, this orphanage actually teaches its residents life skills they would need to survive. When a child reaches adolescence, they are encourage to go out and help out the community, give back to society as opposed to being a burden on it, to when they reach adulthood, they can go out and actually make something of themselves.
On Jira's 18th birthday, he left the place he called home for 13 years and set out to make his way in the world. Will he run into his father on his journey, who knows.
memories of our lost mines and kingdom still haunt my clan-even though it has been so long ago the elders barely remember the location. still the stories continue, and at a certain age members are sent out into the world to find the lost kingdom, thus far with little success
Hi. I'd like to explore the story of Dihek'nir (the stats are random), a githyanki bard who's kind of been forgotten by his people, either accidentally or on purpose.
I wrote this bit as an introduction to him:
To Whom It May Concern:
I, Dihek'nir of the Githyanki, would like to apply to the School College of [Illusion / Glamor / Lore / Swords / Valor / Whispers]. I and your College share similar values of bravery and [fill in later].
My background is in the following skills and reasons:
longsword - I'm Githyanki
survival - hatched and survived
stealth, athletics and acrobatics - because I survived
arcana - I know magic!
performance and persuasion - I love playing bagpipes! or drums.
I have trained and tried to hunt mindflayers, but did not find any. Nobody has contacted me from my home plane either. After 32 years I decided to learn to play an instrument. I have been performing in Waterdeep for the last 16 years. Now I have decided to become real bard and go to school. I consider myself an entertainer and since I also know magic, I will be a great fit for for your College.
Background: Manuya was raised and introduced into wizardry by an old human who died before explaining why he was a bit different than other humans. Though Manuya never has experienced or seen a Yuan Ti Ritual he often has nightmares showing serpent like creatures enslaving, killing or torturing humans. (Background: Haunted one)
His thirst of knowledge drove him to find a way to enroll in a Magic institution to continue with his training and hopefully purge himself of his inner demons.
Kail grew up without a father. His mother was a Paladin of Torm and he was raised in a household with lawful good tendencies. Kail went his own path when he decided to join a nearby monastery who helped him discover his inner self. Opening his mind introduced the communication of the quori spirit of Maya (Meaning "Might") and this is when the night visions began. Often, Kail would have reoccuring visions which left him restless- The most common one showed him fighting an unseen force in a fiery hell. Two additional arms sprout from his back and runes glow all over his body with divine light. The teachers at the monastery worked with scholars from the Paladin order, along with Kail's mother to uncover Kail's true Kalashtar heritage. The quori chose Kail's mother as the vessel for his birth. Guided by the faith of his quori spirit, Kail now adventures out with the teachings of his monastery and the Torm order to spread good over the world, determined to be the light and strength for those in need. A calmer of nerves. A beacon for the lost. A hero.
Flattery is my preferred trick for getting what I want. I lie about almost everything, even when there’s no good reason to.
Ideals
Independence. I am a free spirit—no one tells me what to do. (Chaotic)
Bonds
A powerful person killed someone I love. Some day soon, I’ll have my revenge.
Flaws
I’m convinced that no one could ever fool me the way I fool others.
An orphan of the streets, Arvel quickly learned that his good looks and silver tongue could allow him to get away with almost anything. A low-level conman, he prides himself on never taking anything that wasn't freely given.
A year ago, he was ready to hang it all up and go straight. Because he'd met Luala and wanted to marry her. On the night he planned to propose, Arvel approached Luala sitting on a stone bench in a park. When he touched her shoulder, she fell to the ground. Her throat had been slashed and her dress was dyed deep red with her blood.
Arvel turned to shout for help but he stopped suddenly. A bloody dagger had mysteriously appeared in his hand. Stunned by this, Arvel didn't hear the approach of the watchmen.
Seized, jailed, and set to be put on trial for murder he sat in his cell weeping over his fate and his lost love.
That's when She appeared. The woman appeared Elven, but was more beautiful than any elf Arvel had ever seen before. The offer was simple, Arvel would be given his freedom and a small measure of power to continue his conniving ways and in exchange he would render Her service when She required.
Seeing no other way out, Arvel accepted and became a Warlock in service to the Archfey woman.
The next morning he was released from prison. The guards explained that a common street thug had come forward and confessed to the murder. Arvel took all he had saved and set out for a life of adventure to escape his pain and grow his power.
Backstory: Adoy was raised by a large pack of badgers deep within a large forest. Around the age of 20 years old he began to get curious about the world beyond his forest home, and he set out for adventure. He met many travelers, brigands, adventurers, and others in his early travels and soon learned to speak and behave like a civilized person, at least enough to not be chased out of towns anyway. He has been exploring the world ever since.
Backstory: Born from the union of a djinn and a tiefling, Sky and her sister weren't normal looking children. Especially since they were twins that had taken after different parents. Sky was an air genasi, and her sister Joy was a tiefling. Their mother died when they were seven, so Sky took to stealing to feed her little sister. By the time she was eighteen, Sky had become one of the top thieves in their small city. Joy had pursued other topics, namely music. She went to a music academy last spring with the promise of coming home in a year to show Sky her musical talents in full bloom. The problem is Joy didn't come back. So when Sky went to the school and broke in to look for her, it came as a shock to discover that Joy had apparently left in the company of a man named Jeffery Hyrson. Sky searched for months, but hasn't found her yet. So she's joined a band of adventurers to get some money and meet some people. Maybe she'll hear about a young purple-skinned tiefling along the way.

Backstory- A smithy who has led so far a prosperous life. As a child he worked with his father forging horseshoes and bridles for animals, and later other instruments and weapons. He served his time in the military and was discharged with honor after saving a squad of hostages and slaying a horde of goblins and the Battle of the Bridge. He began to yearn for adventure after this, and set out to explore. He's made many friends, and many enemies as well, and lived through it all. He has many stories, and is a jovial and hardy companion, who will always stick up for you.
Alignment- Neutral Good. He has a decent sense of right and wrong, but is stubborn and doesn't like to admit he's wrong.
Appearance- Stout, short (3-1/2 ft), red hair in a braid down his back, with a scrubby beard to accompany it. Paler than most dwarves, with a ruddy face and smile lines around his eyes. In his mid 40's, about 210 lbs.

Ephran was conscripted as a soldier, like most young Dragonborn from his clan. What made him different was his ancestral tie to the ancient bronze dragon Klendarsh. Ephran had inherited the ability to cast magic from his mother, who had long hidden the ability from the clan, as did her mother, and her grandfather. Now he must keep these abilities secret from his fellow soldiers. It pains Ephran to do so. The power of an ancient dragon burns in him. What is that power for? In secret, he has been practicing, building his power. He has this power for a reason. The dragon deep inside him calls him to his purpose. He just doesn't know what it is yet.
Background: Famaris was raised in the woods by his father, his mother dying during childbirth, and was taught how to live off the land. Turns out, Famaris was an amazing shot with a bow. It seemed like he never missed. He would go on routine hunting trips with his father where they would have a friendly competition; whomever slew more squirrels, with a clean shot, didn't have to wash that night's dishes. Famaris rarely lost these competitions and would usually bring home several more squirrels than his father. Whenever Famaris turned 21 (human years) his father got gravely ill. Famaris took care of him for as long as he could before his father passed away in his sleep, leaving Famaris his longbow. He was buried in his favorite hunting spot and Famaris went back to his home to grab everything he could to set out to find his own destiny and adventure.
Alrighty, then I'd like to introduce Ozru Percival Jinglejinx the First!!
Name: Orzu Percival Jinglejinx I
Race: Lightfoot Halfling
Class: Bard - Collage of Lore
Background: Entertainer
Backstory: As a young halfling, Orzu had always loved listening to stories and songs about lost civilizations, great battles, and famous heroes from far off lands. He would often spend hours entertaining his small village by retelling the stories and songs he had learned, while adding is own flare and bravado to the performance. Wanting to grow and nurture his son's naturally born talent, Orzu's father crafted him his first instrument; a concertina of masterful design and craftsmanship.
As he grew into young adulthood, Orzu left his home in search of new stories and songs and eventually joined a traveling menagerie. Traveling around the country performing and perfecting his skills as a bard, he learned skills from the other performers such juggling, acrobatics, slight of hand, and the art of disguise. As they travelled from place to place, he grew to enjoy teasing out and deciphering rumors in the towns they visited; learning about who the important people were, what their intentions or motives were, and perhaps making small interventions when he deemed it necessary.
In his later years, most of the group he had travelled with has either retired from performing or passed on. Feeling the ever present pull of adventure, Orzu continues his journey to spread knowledge and joy through story and song, and hoping one day to create a ballad that will join the great stories of the Age.
Hey, thought I might pop a character idea down for the campaign. In spoiler below.
Name:Errol Brightberry Race: Halfling (Mark of Healing) Class: Cleric (Light Domain) 3 Background: Acolyte Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory: Errol is a halfling that was brought up in a chapel of Lathander (or whatever the Sun God for the campaign ends up being) and has worked to promote the blessings of light all his life. He may not be the brightest halfling (INT 8), but is happy-go-lucky and always been one for enjoying a good bit of fun. As part of his teachings, Errol found he had a knack as a healer, his birthmark reflecting this as a symbol of the blessings of Lathander (The Dragonmark). He has since learnt the basics of first aid and how to treat those in need.
When he reached the age of seventeen, he set out from the clergy, now with the knowledge of Lathander in his heart, to go and help mend the wounds and shed the light in the darkness. Though slightly naive, he attempts to keep his wits about him as he attempts to shine like a beacon for the downtrodden.
Aim: Seeing as no party healer is specifically put in the above posts, a cleric can fill those roles, but it isn't his focus. He will be more of a ranged and defensive cleric rather than up and personal, and will attempt to use assisting spells and support to keep the group alive.
