Hi, I am looking to run a PBP, I generally use Discord ( I find it easier to run on there rather than the forums ), the campaign starts with your party in their prison cells ( you can choose the reason, but to give an Idea there is an almost Inquisition type organisation, that controls most magic wielders for starters) The prison has a max security facility for some of the most evil monsters, Wizards, artefacts, Demons that have ever walked the world. They have been imprisoned here rather than killed just to make sure that they never get chance to cause trouble.
Your group has recently been shoved into one of these max security wings due to space issues and to your knowledge you are in a wing with an incredibly powerful and dangerous Lich. As time has gone on you have been having more and more nightmares, seen visions, heard voices whispering to you. The Lich has spared your sanity in exchange for your assistance in escaping the prison... The time has come to make good of your bargain, an hour ago explosions shook the building, the sounds of battle are raging through the facility and a guard has unlocked your doors as he walks as if in a trance towards the Lichs cell...
You can play any official, UA, critical roll race/class although bare in mind if you play an elf you would be an Elderin. Standard array, encumbrance, you have no equipment bar improvised weapons and basic clothing. Characters should be around level 8.
I don't mind if they are inexperienced. Everyone has to start somewhere. The only ones I really don't want are the ones that actively mess the game up intentionally and make life hard for everyone.
Yea certainly, I don't mind if you PM or post here.
To Add a bit more information :
This is set in a home-brew world I have been slowly building up, which pretty much all of my campaigns run in. Mordrax is an old Lich, borderline insane but incredibly powerful. He was eventually beaten and sealed within his cell so that he could not cause anymore damage. His abilities are wanted the world over as he is an exceptional artificer of magical artefacts...many of which are weapon based.
The party are in a subterranean prison known as The Pit. It is currently where the Inquisition store their undesirables.
The Inquisition rose to power during the first demonic war when a continent known as Omea was lost to the battle between Angels, Demons, Devils and their worshippers.
The Inquisition is lead by heroes and for the most part anywhere they have the majority of influence is a utopia, however there are rumours that the Inquisition and the Heroes that supposedly saved the world actually betrayed the Primordials, sided with the few gods that survived the Primordials counter attack and imprisoned them to allow the gods to use their powers for their own ends. The Inquisition of course doesn't like this kind of thing to be known and people tend to vanish on voicing such views, magic is rare and controlled by the organisation, divination or anything that could even remotely give someone clues as to what the Inquisition or their Heroes is generally outlawed so tends to be practiced in quiet.
You can play pretty much anything you want. Elderin are the only elves as the farwilds never separated from the prime material plane so its their main home. The Firbolg are rare and live in tribes or solitude mostly in the north. Tritons are in the north sea and extremely rare outside of the Ishar Collective ( A collection of Islands in the north sea that support one another, The main capital of it is the Eternal Fortress which is the last remaining capital of the dwarves). Humans are the largest population and spread out all over the place. Hobgoblins have built a empire roughly the size of Russia and rule it very similar to the Roman Empire. The are mostly embattled with Orcs, goblins, Minotaurs, kobbolds and bugbears in a largely guerrilla war.
I can tell you roughly where and what the history of the other races are if you are curious about making one. I’m happy to answer any questions anyone has if needed.
@duffphd yea you can play halflings although they tend to be very cheerful, community based and accommodating...they also happen to be nomadic and cannibals barbarians, druids, rangers etc make up most of their kind. They tend to have a mongal type theme as well.
@conin well I normally get a few people together and then start, give everyone a chance to get a feel for the party and story and then if people don’t like it and want to drop out there are still enough to play.
@periraptor You can ask me on this thread or pm me. I’ll help out as much as I can
I am interested in this campaign. Do you plan to run this as people post a certain amount of times per day, or more of a live campaign but using text? I have found that when people state PBP they may mean either of these. Thanks!
I normally run them as a combination of the two. if several of us are online i will let it get so far or if its at a point where mini adventures can happen and I have a few in the party online I will try and get something short and sweet to do. I get that people have family, different time zones, work and other commitments so I'll happily pace it out and let people have a chance, if needed I'll do their part in combat etc if its over a day or so and the others would like to get on with it.
All the campaigns are broken up into chapters or one shots, basically so that people can drop in and out of them, I can change things without it effecting things to much etc.
About the only bit I fall short on is when I am busy ( as I DM several chapters as I have yet to have any extra DMs take up playing in the world) , which is why i started using discord a lot more than the forums as I am on discord far more than anything else, can do it all from my phone if needed as well.
The current list of Chapters are:
A Series of Unfortunate Events - Same time as your lot but they are on a Island in the North Sea
The Return of Mordrax - This is you lot .
Trials by Fire - Set around the same time as the other two but within the Hobgoblin Empire.
The First Interplanetary War - Set about 5 - 10 years after your adventures and the apocalypse - Spelljammer style game involving the invasion of another Prime Material Plane
I am very much interested in joining if you're still looking for players. I am a bit inexperienced, have not played in years, but I have the basics down and can learn fast.
All you really have to do is come up with a character and a back ground mate. Something you are happy to RP. I’ll be making my choices in the next day or so 🤔 I may look at running two lots side by side. It depends on how many of you I can handle at one time

Are you excepting inexperienced players?
I don't mind if they are inexperienced. Everyone has to start somewhere. The only ones I really don't want are the ones that actively mess the game up intentionally and make life hard for everyone.
In that case I'm interested. I'll Message you if you'd like

I'm definitely interested in this, I'll work on a character idea.
This looks interesting.
I've only really been the DM and I'd love to finally play as a character.

How many people do you need?
Im super interested how can we talk and i find out more because im new to the whole forum thing :)
I'm also very interested, have characters ready to go if needed.
I am interested, but am a bit new to the Discord structure. Would your world have space for a halfling barbarian?
Fenchurch, Gnome Wizard, Red Skies in Mourning

Thanks for the explanation! I will PM you a character very soon.
Interested in joining. First time pbp. How can i get involved?

This looks very interesting, is recruitment still open?
"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Also, if you are still recruiting, how do genasi feature in your world, and would you allow a mystic character?
"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Is there still room left?
