I'm looking to get a group together (5-7 players) that loves writing, storytelling, and immersing themselves into the world. I am a Dungeon Master with years of PBP/Text experience and I put a lot care into the players and the story we tell together. I lean very heavily into character backstories and I try my best to respond thoughtfully and give meaningful dialogue in a dynamic world. Because of this, I'm only looking for experienced players and writers who are looking for the same. I'm sorry newbies I love you dearly but this will not be New Player Friendly.
This campaign will post frequently so I am looking for people who have a schedule that can work with that. You do not need to constantly write long elaborate responses; Short and succinct sentences are fine but being able to describe your character and their actions in detail is incredibly important as is, not taking a week to do such. I think 2-3+ medium length posts a day is ideal. I understand life and schedules can be unpredictable and I am more than okay to wait, but if you find yourself unavailable more often than not this will not be the game for you since I do not want to:
1) Leave you behind. 2) Force everyone who is available to wait days, especially if we're uncertain where you are.
Game Information:
I will be starting off with Lost Mine of Phandelver but it will be incredibly homebrewed and catered around the players. My games tend to be very open and have a "sandbox" vibe. I allow the freedom for players to explore whatever they wish if that's where the narrative naturally takes them.
NSFW Potentially topics such as slavery, madness, horror, sex and romance are prevalent and it is why I am asking for 21+ (Sex is not the focus and if you try to make it the focus you will be kicked and sent to horny jail). I enjoy dark fantasy and realistic elements; To me NSFW elements can contribute to the narrative. I expect everyone to approach these topics with maturity and consideration of everyone else at the table. Veils and Lines will be fully discussed but please do not join my game with this knowledge and have a problem with adult content in general.
We will be using D&D Beyond, Avrae, Tupperbox -- Non-negotiable.
Optimizing is okay, but no Mix-Maxers or Munckins please. I don't have a problem with your playstyle, I just do not run games for it.
Campaign information:
Roleplay will be a priority 70%+ Everything Else 30% -- Subject to shift depending on players.
Low to Medium magic. Traditional Fantasy. Limited Tech (I expand upon this further in the server)
Playable races are limited to PHB with very few exceptions. I am quite stern on this but if you can sway me with a character concept I will make an exception as long as it fits the tone and doesn't feel out of place (ie; Lost Mine of Phandelver/Sword Coast but you're playing a Samurai Tabaxi or Wizard from the Far Realms -- Again, not that I have a problem with it. I just don't run this sort of game. I want everyone's characters to feel cohesive and natural to the setting and a level 1 start.)
For classes I have banned artificer, gunslinger, bloodhunter.
I am using variant rules such as healers kit dependency and slow natural healing,. There are a few others as well
Everything else is answered in my server.

Name: badbovine (I tend not to reveal my real name online)
Discord: badbovine #7682 - I'm fairly active here.
EDST time zone; I can post frequently, especially around 9 PM EDST.
Play style: I love to see RP from the other players - a good percentage of my posts revolve around teasing out backstory/personality details from members of the group through one-on-one character discussions, encouragement, introduction of 'nonessential' bonding moments and so on. I have no interest in powergaming, but I tend to build characters which function decently and like to see campaigns which include a fair amount of combat.
My ideal game is one in which everyone strives to achieve a coherent, well paced and rewarding story. In my opinion, backstories are constantly misused, especially in play-by-posts - I'd like to see a collaborative effort between the players and the DM to create backstories which not only fit the setting, but also have an effect on the character's personality, their life choices and the wider plot.
Pet peeves: erhm, not many to be honest. I suppose the main ones are...
a lack of engagement, either from the DM's end with PC's needs or the players' with the world, which quickly leads to disinterest
a lack of eloquence - I'm not saying that grammar errors are necessarily a red card for me, but... take the time to review what you're posting, ya know? Make sure it is sensical...
Sample writing: you didn't mention whether it must be d&d related, so I'll include a mix of that and my poetry here...
Upon the wild and restless sea, I spied a canny fishing boat; Thrown across the waves to me, It barely held itself afloat;
Its little, painted sides were breached, Fierce, white stallions battering down, And the lively sail so yearned the beach, It strained to drag the boat back home.
Yet little good the boat could do, Toiling with the ocean fray; The tiny thing was but a toy, With which the sea did cruelly play.
The drink tripped tipsy ‘pon the rocks, And moaning, stumbled from the mist; With the measured count of an awful clock, The rhythmic gavel of death’s own fist.
But the scene was mute, the painting still, All sat in a quiet fog; The little boat danced upon the waves, And silenced, was lapped up by the old, grey dog.
The autumn sky is bleak; It's washed, sallow; Spilled over the heavens, like spoiling milk. Clots of cloud collect, and fester on the stagnance. Now you return? Perched on a chimney’s top, fat, feathered and foreboding. You fit the mire mood. Best forgive the tempered eye that strays from brighter birds and, squinting, looks askance upon this clod of soot astray. Your glittering gaze Alone betrays. And please forgive the whetted tongue that wounds and warrants bleed your inner worth, with biased word and superstitious fray... ...for it’s unfair to credit you these spoiling, milky days!
A demonstration of Raúril Fingolt....
Upon emerging from the Library, Raúril is plunged into a sea of sensory pleasures: the multitude of mingled aromas, the bedazzling colors, the roar of a thousand voices in winding polyphony, all married into a frenzied festival buzz. It’s a very different world to the Hall of Aureon and its sobriety, and the contrast hits like a mallet to the head. Though dizzied, the firbolg keeps an eye out for Ms d’Cannith - an individual she is impatient to finally meet.
Edit: Rau rolled a 17 perception to spot Keifer.
Raúril's expression betrays little of the incredulity she feels - or so she hopes. How interesting... not the ill tempered, sagacious sort I imagined. Youthful or wizened, it's hard to tell from here. I've no doubt she's enthusiastic, too, the way she is pinning down this poor professor. The firbolg sighs, leaning into the shadow of a girder. Yes, I'm sure she can help me. But I won't interrupt their debate... what is it about? Jotunish magic?
Her gaze drifts out across the Hadrill Gardens, settling on the elvish troupe briefly, then panning out to more distant elements: on a far away stage, one little violist is struggling to keep up with a flurry of bassoon notes. While his musicality is evident, Raúril cannot help but flinch at his limp wrist - a factor which impedes the halfling's intonation, and commonly causes longterm aches and pains. Her attention shifts again, and what she sees causes her to do a double take. Is that... is that an automaton amongst those beastfolk?
Some posts regarding Wicker Nightroot....
Jostled about in a sea of knees and ankles, Wicker remains attentive and silent as a mouse throughout Knox's speech. Only upon 'any questions?' does she cough politely, seeking the sergeant's attention. A petite gloved hand, raised inquiringly, belongs to the most peculiar little person - any who are unacquainted with the like of Lotusden Halflings are surprised to see that her face, half obscured by the shadow of a woollen hood, is bright vermillion. Wicker stands around 2'9'', with fiery silver eyes, numerous freckles and a feral thicket of dark hair, which is domesticated into a side braid and lanced by twigs and leaves. "Hello! Yes, down here..." she pipes up, with the silky inflections of a Welsh accent "...what is this gear we have to wear? The poster said nothing about gear."
Wicker's eyes glint in the moonlight. "A blade of elvish make, is it? I'm sure that comes in handy where you're from, but lands of sand and scorching heat are alien to me. This... " She touches a budding shoot in her hair, causing it to blossom slightly. "...this is a little piece of my home. And incidentally, the essence of my powers. Rest well, Audun"
The halfling finds her way to the depot, clambers into a bunk and stares at the ceiling for a good while. This cloistered room makes it hard for her to sleep.
And finally, a backstory showing the saga-esc style I prefer when the situation calls for it...
Long ago, deep below the sun-touched lands, a great pact was settled to unite the seven Jotun nations. The city of Grithforge was hewn into the underbelly of the Iceknife mountains as an assay of goodwill - a place where many giants lived and prospered during the centuries to come. Elder runes were carved into the halls there, and powerful magic was bound to them. In the Year of Upheval [insert year], Hrorm - mightiest of the Fire Giants who dwelled in that place - rallied his kin to take Grithforge for themselves. A battle raged, five days and five nights, so ferocious that the mountains quaked and the stars darkened, choked out by the smoke of war which rose up out of the earth. The resistance was mighty, Hrorm mightier still. Many perished, and famous amongst the numbered were Rishuk the Wise, Sarahad and Aulde Ironband. Even of those who survived the first onslaught, few escaped the subsequent collapse of [insert individual mountain name] which buried the warriors under rubble and soot.
And so, Grithforge was forsaken by all Giantkind - no one dared to return there, nor even utter its name. Out of mind and legend, the city was soon forgotten to the mists of time. That is, until the arrival of the Mithi Gnomes - the most unlikely tribe imaginable. No one, not even the Mithi themselves, truly know how they came to dwell in the halls below the hill. What they believe, though, is quite another matter. Long before the fall of Grithforge, the poet Guttr had inscribed its history onto twelve stone tablets and had hidden them in the outer vaults. Though the fall of the great city had long since rendered these tablets illegible, Mithi mages were able to decipher a little of the lost story. Some of it they interpreted correctly - that this was the ancient city of Grithforge, made by the Big People as an act of peace toward one another - other parts, incorrectly - that Guttr was the city's king, and that the Mithi were somehow his children and immediate heirs.
To this day, the Mithi thrive in their citadel below Iceknife. They strive to understand and harness the primordial magic hidden there, in order to truly reclaim their 'heritage'. This is where Pozzo Tolfein's story begins... [ie. Tolfein meaning 'twelve one' or 'one hundred and twenty one', as in the 121st generation of Guttr]
Character Concepts: I have a few kicking around, most involving some homebrewed aspect...
One Dndbeyond user created a Selkie race, and while I would add some adjustments, it's just such a cool concept. Perhaps a Selkie genie warlock/rogue who stashes his horde deep beneath the waves.... I haven't put any thought into it yet. Another is a lank and grizzled Owlin paladin, following the Oath of the Oath (it is still just an idea, but ...not as nutty as it sounds)
EDIT: just saw your passage on races - PHB focused is fine! Would Owlin still be alright, or no>
