Seeking 1 5th level adventurer for "They Know", a suspense thriller where all is not as it seems.
This adventure is part of a connected series of adventures that I have been running on this site for some time.
If you are interested after reading the details below, please reply here or in a PM. Include the race/class you would like to play, and a short background summary. At the start of the adventure, you will be in Sundabar during a complete and total lockdown of the city.
Standard Array, Point Buy, and “Roll 4d6 Drop Lowest” are all acceptable methods for stats, but if you are using rolls, those rolls must be made here or in a PM, and there are no rerolls allowed. Rolling is a gamble, if you don't want to chance lower-than-average scores, take the Standard Array or use Point Buy.
Neutral or evil alignments work best for this adventure, but that does not mean you are not part of an adventuring party or that you do not want to save the world from a greater evil. I will trust that you are able to roleplay a not-so-savory character but still play nice with those you are fighting and bleeding beside.
How To Apply:
- Reply to this thread or send me a PM with the 1) race/class you would like to play, 2) a short background summary, and 3) your method of determining ability scores (include rolls if rolling and remember there are no rerolls allowed.
- If you are selected, your hit dice will be rolled to determine your hit points at 5th level (see house rule below), and you will get some extra starting gold to outfit your 5th level character.
About The Campaign:
- This adventure has an emphasis on roleplaying and investigation, but could also have a fair amount of combat.
- This is a 4 hour in-person adventure, but is part of a large overarching campaign, so you don't have to be in it for the long haul, but can be if you enjoy it.
About The DM & House Rules:
- I DM for three groups and run four PbP adventures on this site, and very much enjoy how PbP campaigns allow groups of people to come together and create an awesome story.
- I advance when either all players have posted or after 24 hours have passed from my last post, unless a player posts an action that calls for immediate resolving. With your response, please send me a PM that includes the phrase “alchemy jug” so I know I will have players with attention to detail.
- Most of my PbP campaigns are Theater of the Mind. I also roll initiative in groups so that rounds of combat can progress as quickly as possible.
- I use all rolls and no averages. Enemy/NPC health is rolled, all damage is rolled, and character HP gains will be rolled when they level up. This brings variance to the game and keeps things from getting predictable.
- Your character can die. I don't fudge rolls and reckless actions have consequences.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Backstory:
I grew up in a small village near the a large forest it wasn't much of a village a small church, and a few houses was all it really was. Growing up I helped out as much as I could going out and chopping down wood when we needed it and such. One day when I was 13 after finishing up I was exploring the woods and had gotten lost, luckily I could see some smoke from what I thought must have been a hearth in the village. I started along towards the smoke and as I got closer I realized that the amount of smoke was too great for a simple hearth. I started running towards the smoke still thinking nothing is wrong maybe it's just a bonfire or some celebration. As I got near the edge of the forest I could the village ablaze with some people with torches and weapons standing around the houses laughing. I backed up further into the forest watching in horror, I turned around and started running deep into the forest. When I finally stopped I realized how lost I was I laid down near a tree for the night. When I woke up I noticed the smell of food, I looked around and could see a small trail of smoke heading towards it I found a cottage with a young man going about making breakfast. I slowly walked towards the cottage and saw him look over at me a look of shock came over his face and he opened the door asking me all kinds of questions like who I was why I was in the forest where was my parents and such. I tried to answer what I could, after the questions he invited me in and gave me a bowl of some type of stew. I learned he was a druid of this forest, after telling him what happened he agreed to let me stay for as long as I wanted if I helped and did my part. After about 4 years of this I ended up asking if he could help me leave the forest he agreed and took me out near a small town wishing me well with whatever I may do. After he had gone back into the forest I explored the town, finding it was a dwarven mining city so I applied for a job in the mines they gave me a job of going into the mines to deliver water to the workers. Once when I was going to deliver water I found a tunnel that wasn't on the map I was given. I thought maybe a worker found a new vein going into the tunnel it went down and down leading me deeper than I thought possible finally the tunnel ended and opened up I lit a torch and looked around seeing nothing special so I extinguished my torch and started to head back. When I turned around the tunnel wasn't there I looked around the area feeling along the wall until I felt an opening. Going through I felt myself slip and slide down further down this time when I head the ground I passed out. Waking up I saw bright blues and saw ahead of me a cave filled with plants of all types. and different tunnels leading out of the cave. for the next year and a half I explored this area eventually being able to see better without the plants from the cave or my torch. During the next half of a year I ended up trying to get back to the surface, eventually I found a tunnel that lead upwards following carefully over the next month I walked up into another tunnel this one having torches lining it. I looked around and found myself near a dwarf who was staring in shock I looked behind me to see the tunnel I was coming out of closing itself up again I fell to the ground a backed away from it. After that happened I ended up leaving the city wondering where I would go next.
