You and your motley lot have been sent to a small harbor town named The Larches, it's dark and dreary and perfect. The people here are slow and crime is to the minimum which leaves you a perfect time to strike, with no opposition to fight for the goods and a lack of law of course. You came here to see a contact you only know as "Point" and to meet them at the docks by the broken lodge.
You looking to be part of a "Thieve's guild"
I'm looking for a starting group of 5-6 people to build a back bone of this thread and plan to add more people in as we go. I have DM'd for 1 year in 5E over 2 games and am a player in a couple others IRL and on PbP so I have a well rounded knowledge, but I believe in "the rule of cool" so don't expect someone who is going to be a crazy stickler on the rules. I would like to see a mixture of both combat, skill challenges and roll play in this PbP so don't be afraid if your a new player or a seasoned one. I would like to see posts at least once a day, if you have any reason you need to not post as its coming up to the holidays or any other reason just send a message and we can sort something I would rather know then be left aloft.
Character creation.
Make a level 2 character with the DnD beyond character builder.
Use official Races and classes.
I don't really mind what alignment as long as it does not cause disruptive play.
We will use average HP when leveling so let the system do the work.
Backgrounds I'm open to almost any! If you want a custom background PM me and we can always have a talk.
Backstory I would like to see it split in parts; child, teen, adult and why you are here now. Makes for more options for me to mess with you!
Abilities we will use Standard Array to keep everything even.
When you have finished making a character post in the comments with the following:
3. I've been wanting to try a kenku for a while, and they just seem the perfect Inquisitive Rogue. It may seem trope for this campaign, but it also sounds like a good fit. Gom (the noise he makes sounds like that, so people call him 'gom' [gohm]). Currently aged about 14, he's just into maturity for his race. He'd been traded around, kind of as a house pet, for a few years. But he learned to read people through his travels and movements quite well. He also learned that information was often more important than the shiny things they often traded. Also what he heard, and was able to repeat (flawlessly) was able to get him free. He also learned something very interesting (you can decide what that is)... Though he's now on the street and joining up with some other disreputables. - - that's the basics. I'll think of more as the idea is in my mind for the next couple days.
Rasen was raised by his mother in the slumbs of a city in the south. She worked as seamstress, waitress... whatever she could do to gain some coins so her little boy doesn't lack a meal or has proper clothes.
She never talked about Rasen father when the little child asked and other boys bullied him from time to time for not having a father, but young Rasen never said a word to his mother, for he didn't want her to suffer or get worried. This wasn't specially constant or hard for him to bear, but that was enough to make him a quiet and introvert child that rather played alone that with friends.
Teen:
As soon as young Rasen was able to work, he started to work to help his mother. He went from stable boy, to work in the docks unloading cargo, to courier from the dockmaster... Eventually his mother was hired as a maid at the house of the Count of the city, up in his castle, she was serving directly the Countess and in time she managed for his son to enter the guard of the castle. Some viperine tongues would say that it was only because she was seeing the captain of the guard in secret, heating his bed during the long cold nights of the winter, but truth was that once the captain started to train Rasen he found something that he was good enough at last. Swordplay. He wasn't as strong as other memebrs of the guard, but with cunning and nimbleness he was able to defeat most of the rest of the recuits in a few months.
Adult:
Unfortunately some years after he entered the Counts service, the second wife of the Count died, and she was mourned and missed by all. Surprisingly the Count married another woman really soon and under this new mistress life was a little bit more miserable, for she was demanding and sometimes abussive, but the Count was absolutely in love with her and endulged her every desire.
But for Rasen that were mere nuissances, for he had fell in love with the Count's daughter, fruit of her second marriage, the young and beautiful Raisa. The night that the young lovers were about to lose their heads, the Countess had another plans for the young heir. She took both of them to a dungeon and was sacrifing her to a demon with Rasen looking at it. In his desperation, and thanks to the thin barrier between worlds due to the Countess spells and invocations, something heard Rasen pleads... and stroke a deal with him. But too late. Raisa was dead and the only thing he was able to do was avenge her.
Still the things were awful for him, and the captain of the guard, who really loved his mother and had grew a love for the young boy, believed him and allowed him to escape.
Since then he has been moving from one place to antoher, trying to find his place in the world, escaping both the Count agents and his own demons. But there is one from wich he cannot escape, for its part of him now...
Merrick remembers his childhood fondly. He was born in a small village to a loving family.
His youth was shattered when the North was plunged into the war with the orcs. His parents were killed.
A peddler took him in. Supposedly an uncle.
Teens:
Unbeknownst to Merrick the peddler was an agent of the Black Network using his cover to bring news and orders to others agents.
He learned quickly to pay attention and do as he was told because though rather well I tentioned the peddler was harsh and used to fits of anger.
As the years went by Merrick started to piece things together. He kept silent because he rellay didn't know what to do about the information and also because the peddler seeing his place into the organisation becoming less and less important became more and more violent.
At the age of 16 Merrick decided to take action and forged a letter portraying the peddler as a double agent.
The Black Network's justice was swift and merciless. Merrick once more alone took the peddlers possessions and continued his routine.
Adult:
Merrick has matured on the road into a con artist. He still sells his wares in the villages but has also begun to use his guile and charms to re make himself into the nice and helpful itinerant priest. He never really asks for anything in exchange for his spells but makes it nown that gifts would be appreciated by his " god. "
His scam as not yet attracted the attention of the other faith because he takes care not to overdo it.
I am unable to check your story through notes until you character is in a shared campaign, can you either post it in the forum or send it to me in a PM.
WIll develop a backstory to explain more details, but the character concept is this:
Livvi is a bad girl. The kind of girl that the boys fall all over themselves for. The kind of girl who gets what she wants. Always. The kind of girl who can cut you with a casual comment, enthrall you with a gentle touch, or drive you to the point of madness with whisper in your ear and a light caress on your neck. The kind of girl who looks like an angel but is anything but...the kind of girl the simple folk of The Larches have no chance against.
I used to be a powerful businessman, and a close friend to the local king. However, when I was chased out of my position by a rival business, I had to go into hiding. While in hiding, I would sneak back into my house, and take gold from the people who started living there. I then, when I had obtained enough money, bought a small hut in the forest and lived there.
Some additional stuff you may not see on the sheet:

Even as a half-elf, she was offered anything she wanted and led a comfortable life. And Livvi liked that. She learned how to smile at the right time, to act shy or be bold, and always - always - win. This lasted well until her early teens, when the other girls started hating her for her beauty and popularity, and the older boys started treating her differently. But not in a good way. It was also a time when she discovered the magic in names and words, how with a musical instrument or her songs alone she could alter the world around her to suit her needs. The first time was when the other girls decided it might be time to "knock the crown of the princess." Livvi wasn't happy - not at all - and she hurled a string of nasty insults at them. The effect, combined with her developing magical abilities, were devastating. And thus she started to study both arcane and mundane arts of influencing others.
