The surroundings, all you can see, is grey. The trees, the flowers, the people, they are all dying. Faerun's mayor has gathered many adventurers from all corners of the Isles in order to stop this death from persisting, as no one, not even the greatest scholars can find the cause of this. You have all been sent here, to this village, in order to transport food to the villagers and investigate the surrounding lands. Many other groups have been dispersed around the country, with various different side tasks, but your party have been sent here. You've made your way, sacks full of food and medicine, and this evening you have made it to this village.
As you walk in, the village looks dull and lifeless. The citizens are weak but alive, and as you walk in, many of the healthier come to greet you and collect their rations.
After performing a few tasks to help the weak and wounded, you find your way to the local inn.
That's when you hear her scream.
'Please, please help me. They've been chasing me!' A woman in a grubby but fancy looking dress emerges from the forest, and sure enough, trailing her is a group of five big, bulky looking people.
What do you do?

If you love a character, you give them pain, ruin their lives, make them suffer. Maybe even throw in a heroic death.
I look in the distance at the people walking towards us, then turn towards the woman and ask her "Hide behind the back but leave no further than that, I'll want to hear your side of the story as well once this is over." I turn to the Innkeep & pull him/her aside, "Watch her, make sure she doesn't get hurt... and try not to get hurt yourself."
I draw my Scimitar & Shortsword reading an attack, I stand between the group & the inn counter. I call out to the group of people, "HALT who goes there? Identify yourself & your intentions, or else we shall be forced to recognize you as hostile & see it right to defend ourselves with blades drawn!"
(OOC:Holy $#!& I was not expecting that... but OK) Up on seeing the look on their faces its obvious there's something wrong with them, something unnatural. (OCC:Are they civilians by any chance or do they look like warriors?)
Hearing their request I try to gather more information & try to keep them busy (OOC:Until other people show up to help out which would be helpful right now guys since I THINK they're possessed or zombies o_o;).
I ask the group, "What lady? There are many women in this village but of whom do you speak? And for what purpose do you inquire about their whereabouts?
"Well, this doesn't look good" Myron mumbles to himself. He walks to the front of the group and looks at the five bulky figures, "Why don't we all go into the tavern to discuss this misunderstanding, I'm sure we can talk this out," Myron yells to them, "After all, we wouldn't have to resort to violence, right". As he says this he cocks his head to the side and looks at the group of bulky people with cold hard eyes, eyes which look like all life has been drained out, and all that's left is unfeeling stone.
I look towards Myron's attempt to appeal to the group, "You did your best sir & on any normal day I think you would have been successful... However I don't believe this is a... normal day.... as it were. Our friends outside seem keen on acquiring her lady ship in the back for whatever reason, & if you ask me it does not bode well for us either. Not with the look they have in their eyes, you know any magic? I'm no wizard or sorcerer but whatever this is, its looks arcane & unfriendly."
(OOG: Are they, or rather WERE they part of the village guard? Is there anything else I can see on them or about them that might explain their current condition? Are they even still technically alive? I don't suppose you could role me... whatever it is I'd need to see whats really wrong with them & who they are? Insight or Investigation? Again I'm new so I'm still learning things)
With your arcana check you sense that this perhaps isn't something a basic understanding of magic could identify. They definitely don't seem to be under any control of magic however.
They don't appear to be wearing guard uniforms, but rather a mismatch of different pieces, all very shiny and clean however. They seem fit and in perfect health, and likely very alive. If you want to look into what their intentions may be, you can roll and insight check.

Kolthar walks outside the inn's door to see what the commotion he had heard from upstairs was about. Upon seeing his party members facing off against the strangers, he unshoulder's his bow and moves up to stand in line with them. He makes a point to stand in between them and the startled villager as he notches an arrow.
"Who are they?" He asks to the air keeping his eyes firmly locked on his potential targets. He will also try and see what he can discern about them from this distance.
Kolthar sees their intensity and focus. They appear to really have one goal, and appear mad that there are now obstacles in their way. And that appears to be what they see the people before them as. Obstacles.

"Well. It seems that the lady doesn't want to go with you" the young paladin takes two steps towards the direction of the armored group. " And I must admit that I don't like the way you say our lady. " he stands firm looking at their eyes, his hand in his sword pommel. " I don't like it a bit."
Lindal could recognize bullys when he sees one, but what was bothering him is that, unlike the rest of the survivors, this group seems well fed and in good shape.
As you say these words, the soldiers immediately unsheathe their weapons, in unison once more. They begin to approach once more, marching forwards. They are still 100 ft away.

The people are 100 feet off, slowly approaching. Their eyes look glazed, and almost seem to be glowing. They stop.
'Give us back our lady.' They say in unison.
