Hi folks. This is a one shot designed for new players. I've seen many people looking to get some experience under their belts so here we go. I encourage new players to join, but if you're an experienced player and want to lend a hand that's OK too. As long as you're patient and willing to answer questions the newer players may have.
You are The Brute Squad. I'm borrowing the setting from The Princess Bride but it won't have a whole lot to do with the story overall. It's obviously taking place in the D&D world and there is more in the thieves forest than just thieves.
Word has come down that a brute squad is forming to clear out the thieves forest for the Prince's wedding. There are rumors of a plot against the realm and the Prince wants all the disreputable types rounded up and the forest cleared out. You are all starting at lvl 1
To apply let me know what Race and Class you'd like to play.
Give me a brief backstory or at least a couple things about your character.
Any experience you have playing D&D (None is OK)
If you want to link a character sheet that's fine too.
I don't expect the campaign to last for more than a week. I encourage some role playing. I will throw in a couple puzzles and the battles will be challenging. I'll try to provide everyone a good overall experience so joining larger campaigns down the road will be easy :)
Edit: You can use point buy or standard array to create your character. If you'd like to roll do so in the thread. If you need help with anything I just said message me :)
I will link my character sheet to you, but here is the tl;dr version:
Wilisle Tosscobble is a halfling rogue, who has been sent out into the world to retrieve valuable components for his family's famous jewelry shop. He isn't malicious, but he isn't afraid to bend the rules to get what he needs.
I’m sorta new to the game I understand some of the basics, but I’m not a very experienced player. I’ve mostly heard lots of stories on All Things D&D and tried playing a little at home.
Edith is a Teifling Monk. Although Edith grew up in a monastery she never really paid attention. She was more intent on helping others and learning martial skills. Her belief is if you do good in the world then it doesn’t matter what you call God.
Certainly not a new player, but certainly haven't memorised every rule book out there. So happy to be a helper for new players if you need a hand. A real rough backstory below but will flesh out later today.
Race - Dragonborn
Class - Warlock
Backstory - Abandoned as a young lizardling due to the colour of his scales he has taken a deal with his patron in hopes of power that will allow him to prove his worth. Doesn't realise the price he may pay.
I have never played D&D before, and would love to play!
Race: Dwarf
Class: Fighter
Backstory: All Mystwaen spent her life doing was learning to fight. Now she goes out in the world hoping to prove herself to her people, and if she fails, she will bring shame and dishonor to her family.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Oh... My... God! I love the princess bride! Do you still have room? I'm an experienced player, but I'd love to play.
The character of bring along is...
A Human Druid (miracle man) named Bogue. He's spent a little time researching the works of the great Miracle Max, but has fallen on hard times and is looking to pay the bills.
Perfect! You'd make the final player. I think it will be good to have a couple experienced players to help things along. I'm going to close recruiting now and I'll get a group OOC going and send out the campaign link.
We start with our adventures having been just chosen for The Brute Squad and all deciding to have a meal together to get to know one another better before they have to set off in the morning.
You've decided to dine at 'The Ogling Ogre' A well know tavern far enough from the center of town to not draw fancy folk, but close enough to not draw much riff-raff. The owners are somewhat paranoid of 'the wrong type of folk' coming in though and checking in your weapons is requires. Just like a coat check you turn in your weapons and get a ticket. It's name comes from the mounted ogre head above the bar who's eyes seem to follow you wherever in the tavern you are. It's known to you all that the ogre was killed by the tavern owners dead father, but the owner, Terry, continually tries to take credit for it while his partner Terri, is continually telling him to stop telling tales.
The tavern is set-up family style with a long table with benches running it's length down the middle and about 20 stools at the bar. Meals here consist of two options. A beer plate which comes with a mug of beer, bread and butter and a serving of the meat of the day and cost 1sp. The other option is a glass of wine, bread with cheese and the meat of the day for 1gp. The tavern is about half full tonight with a buzz of excitement in the air. There's much talk of the upcoming wedding and the plot from Guilder. You all find seats on the benches together and try to hail a server.
Wilisle pulls a gold from his coin purse and fiddles with it in his hand. He's not nervous, he's just likes to keep his hands busy. Once the server comes around he will happily part ways with his coin and get ready for his wine and cheese. There's no way that he would be caught eating anything than the best.
To the other players:
Wilisle looks a little like this. He is wearing decent clothes and seems more interested in looking casual than looking like he is prepared for action. He's got his leather armor on, but as discretely as possible.
Edith sits at the table looking cautiously at the mounted head. “That’s a little creepy..”. Edith is a light reddish brown teifling with gold eyes. Her dark reddish brown horns are left plain. Her hair the same color as her horns is pulled into a French braid. She’s wearing a tan tunic with a leather vest, and one feather earring. She continues looking around at everything curiously. When the server comes she will order the beer platter. Nothing beats a good piece of buttered bread.
Mystwaen was not happy to have to leave all of her weapons in the front, but for now she doesn't complain. She asks if anyone wants a beer and will place their orders with hers when she goes up to the bar.
Wilisle flips his gold to Edith and says, "A wine and cheese meal, if you're going up there." He then looks down at the table and starts rubbing his index finger along the wood grain.
Edith Catches the Gold and chuckles, handing Wilisle's Gold and one of her own to Mystwaen. "I'm getting the beer platter but I dont have any silvers."

Is it PbP only, or will Roll20 and discord be involved too? I am super interested if it's PbP.

Looking good so far. We've got a rogue, monk, warlock and a paladin (who messaged me) so far.
Keep em coming. There's room for 2 more.

We could use someone else who can heal. Bard, Druid, Cleric.

If you get all new players, I'm happy to step aside. It was more an offer of assistance if needed.

20+ years of experience.
