The trading city, Crows perch, is a major stop-off and lay by for merchant vessels to rest an restock on their long voyages. the city has thrived for years due to its strategic location. The whole landmass for a hundred miles each way is nothing but bog and swamp, but crows nest rests on the only raised land. you all have been on a ship in a convoy heading east, and planned to restock food in Crows nest's port, when suddenly the water around your tallship begins to froth. Out of the water comes a gurgled screeching noise which deafens everyone on the ship, and even the other ships nearby. then, as if it were nothing but made of parchment, the ship to your right is crumpled and dragged under the dark green waters by a huge mass of slimy flesh resembling an gargantuan octopus tentacle. your ship begins to get to arms, but by the time cannonballs are loaded, the ship to your left has a tentacle fall through the middle of the deck, splitting the thirty meter merchant ship directly in half. your crew tries to beeline for the port, but finally as you close in and can see the dots on the port turn into people, a final tentacle penetrates the bottom of the ship and comes up to the deck, wrapping itself around the main mast. most of the crew including yourselves are able to dive into the water, before the ship is dragged back out to see and slowly pulled underwater.
you and your fellow survivors are pulled ashore, drenched but alive. you look up to see that the townspeople look unphased by the attack.
what do you do?

Phiberin scans the vast port and the water for up to 30ft out. the large ships are nowhere to be seen, though the water is littered with driftwood, bodies both alive and dead, and the remains of a canvas sail. however as he is about to turn away, a wave breaks against the pier he stands on, washing up a familiar looking hat. Phiberin recognises the hat as the one worn by the captain of his charter ship. luckily for him though, upon turning the hat over, he finds a small pouch attached to the top inside, containing 5 gold pieces and a piece of waterlogged parchment.
