On the verge of a forest shortly before sunset, a pair of Orcs rampage through the center of a small village, known locally as Meridionalis. Both swing their axes, one overturning a small cart of apples and the other smashing the shutters of a rundown house. Groups of people huddle tightly together, children whimpering as parents comfort them with hushed whispers. Broken wood litters the ground of the village square, glass fragments glinting in the rapidly fading sun.
The party members find themselves caught up in the unexpected rampage, having been going about their daily business when the attack begun and only carrying their usual gear (It is up to you if the party members knew one another prior to the campaign beginning)

Hugh is a half orc. He has jutting tusks, a broad forehead, gray-green skin, and muscles on top of muscles. Approximately six and a half feet tall, with medium length black hair, and brown eyes. His hands are great calloused mitts, used to hard labor. He wears a plain, dirty cotton shirt with brown pants, and worn leather boots. Over those, he wears a thick, quilted shirt, and a shirt of chain mail which he wears with a certain casualness despite looking somewhat out of place wearing it in such a small village. He drops a pack full of various pieces of traveling gear, tools, and a very noticeable longsword and warhammer strapped to the pack.
Hugh pulls on a pair of leather gauntlets with metal plates sewn onto the backs and draws a pair of hand axes before turning to Fred with an enthusiastic, albeit ugly smile:
”I told you there would be plenty of work like this!”
Hugh is ready to rush in and chop-chop!

Fred is a half-elf, short cropped silver-blonde hair above solid green eyes. He stands just under five and a half feet tall, slender and pale from too much time inside, wearing plain clothing reminiscent of an acolyte of Azuth, but no identifying sigil. Carrying a similar pack to his brother Hugh, but drops it with obvious relief, swinging up the light crossbow he was carrying and nocking a bolt before releasing.
"Yes brother, you were right again. But I still don't see how this helps."
Wandering around and searching for knowledge had brought Khealan all over the continent in the past 3 years. But she hadn't gotten into much trouble ... yet. Her Longbow was slung over her shoulder and her face burried in a book when she entered the village. She had been on her way to a bigger city of aquire more books on spells but did have to stop for the night and get some food. At first, Khealan didn't even hear the rampage going on around her, but when someone bumped into her while running away, she looked up and saw the Orcs wrecking havoc upon the town. Letting out a low sigh she put away her book and slid her bow over her shoulder, nocking an Arrow into it and aiming for the one closest to her who was in the process of bashing through some windows and scaring the living daylights out of a family.
"Well that ain't very nice. Didn't your mother teach you to pick on someone your own size?" she yelled at them and fired her arrow. Slightly annoyed that she was disturbed during her reading and because she was hungry. But, also thankful for a bit of excitement and excersise. She had gotten a little bored of the long days without anything happening and frankly a little bit lonely after spending years on the road on her own. Sure she met people, made some friends but they didn't join her on her travels and search for knowledge and power...

Hugh's missed attack is what alerts the first Orc to the party's arrival, axe raised to strike as it turned to face them with a snarl. It never got the chance to strike however, a crossbow bolt embedding itself in it's neck at the same instant an arrow found a home over it's heart. A sickening thud echoed over the space as the beast hit the ground with it's axe beside it, falling still. It made no move to return to it's feet.
The sound of the it's companion hitting the floor caused the second Orc to turn, it having been oblivious to the party until now as it lumbered around aimlessly. It appears to be smaller than it's companion, but something tells you it is more aggressive. Now angered, it raises it's great axe and thunders towards the party, swinging widely as it approached.

(It sorta just ran in the direction of whoever was nearest, so it's up to you guys. Though if you folks get rolls like the last round, it isn't gonna live long enough to actually attack anyone XD)

Seeing the first orc fall motionless to the ground Khealan slings her bow back over her shoulder and focuses on the orc running towards another person who was fighting it, swinging around his Great axe. While the orc is occupied with attacking someone that's not her, since she's too far away, she'll start walking closer towards the Orc. In the meantime she's moving her hands and mumbling some arcane words before a Fire Bolt shoots forward racing towards the second Orc.

Hugh first strike hits, though the sudden force sends it back a few steps causing the second one to miss. Before it even has a chance to recover, the fire bolt hits it square in the back. Seeing the other Orc being chopped to bits Khealan started looking around to see if there were any more Orcs or other dangers nearby. When she was certain they were safe, she closed her book and put it back in her backpack. One of the boys who had been fighting the orcs had turned towards her and asked her if she was alright. Khealan smiled slightly "I'm brilliant. Hadn't expected a pair of Orcs in these parts but at least something interesting was going on." she looked bored for a moment now that the danger had passed and looked the two men over. "Where are my manners! My name is Khaelan Evermore." if her pointy ears hadn't given it away already, the dark blue robes of elven making and the tattoo in elfish on her neck would make it pretty clear that she was no ordinary human. Or even human at all.
Khealan looked around again to see what the damage was that the orcs had done and if she could do anything to help the villagers that had been victim to this attack. (Basically , is there someone around that she can talk to?)
Slowly, an elderly man breaks away from one of the huddled groups and limps over to the group with cane in hand. His clothes are drab and tattered, faded and marred with streaks of dust.
"Thank you for helping my people" He rasps, bowing his head to them in gratitude "Many would surely have left us to die at the hands of those beasts"

Khaelan smiled at the older man and bowed her head "It was no problem. Was this the first time you've had trouble with these creatures?" she asked and looked over at the dead bodies of the orcs. One of them had some serious scortch marks on him from Khaelan's firebolt. She slowly made her way over to the second Orc who fell last and started searching the body while waiting for an answer from the elderly man.

As Hugh watches Khaelan loot the corpse of the Orc , he turns to Fred. “Hey... we should do that, too. Like in the future. We come in like heroes, get a bunch of stuff from bandit pockets and no one would even have a problem with it. It’s good business sense, right?” He scratches his chin. “Khaelan must’ve figured this out already. We should see what else we can pick up from her, right?”
Completely forgetting to introduce himself. (OoC- I assume Fred is the one with the people skills lol)
Fred will move follow Khaelan, "I'm Fred, and thats my brother Hugh, its a pleasure to meet you Miss Evermore. Hugh, come say hello. Mind if I ask where you're from and where you're headed?"
(Since Hugh and I are locals, we would know if this was an recurring thing, right? Assuming yes, Fred would pass that on to Khaelen as well.)
As locals you would know that the village is often rather peaceful, having seen little trouble aside from the odd lost traveller until recently. A visit from the Queen's Guard to claim the latest Tax payment was troublesome due to an inability to pay (Caused by many of the livestock dying as the result of the scorching summer, and the forest on the outskirts withering away leaving little to scavenge or hunt) which saw the remaining livestock seized as payment instead.
Khaelan:
Your search uncovers very little of interest aside from the Axe and Javelin the Orc was carrying. However, you spot a scorched scrap of paper tucked away inside one of the pockets of it's tattered clothing. As you go to retrieve the paper, you will see it has been too damaged by the fire bolt to be of much help but you can vaguely make out a partial symbol on the scrap.
"Oh yes. Since the forest perished, we see very few creatures roaming around now" The man rasped. "I'm afraid we have nothing to offer you aside from our gratitude"
