Your eyes open. You're laying on a bed in a dimly lit room surrounded by your companions. It's an octagonal stone room with windows on all sides and you see an enigmatic looking old fellow sitting on a chair looking at you.
"Welcome back!" He says with a smile. "I'm sure you will all have questions so let me try to answer at least some of them now"
"Firstly. You've been dead for some time. Longer than mortal means could have revived you but there was divine intervention and here you are. I realize you probably don't remember much. That's a, shall we say, a safety mechanism. I'm afraid your minds would shut down otherwise. In time you will hopefully remember more but we'll leave that for now."
"I'm sure you're all wondering why you're here. To put it bluntly you're to play a part in a battle over the planes. I don't know how much you know about the world you CAN'T see around you but there are many other worlds and other planes and for the most part they stay separate and everyone goes their merry way without ever being the wiser. There are, however, beings who delight in messing with other worlds. Sometimes you'll hear of very strange accidents, or some unexplained phenomenon. That is often one of these beings interfering in a plane they don't belong. It happens from time to time and unfortunately has been happening more often."
"Some of these beings operate in time in a different way from how you think time works. No need to burden you with all of that but apparently someone, or something, saw you all as a threat and decided to eliminate the threat before it even became one. Things like this happen more often than you'd think. What's unusual in this case is that higher powers intervened. It appears that whatever struck you down may be making a play to destabilize the planes and somehow you all are a part of it."
"It's really anyone's guess what that may be at this point. It could be one of you is destined for great deeds or it could be some seemingly inconsequential action will be like ripples in the ocean that start a tidal wave."
"I'm sure you will have questions, and there's more to tell you but I'll that sink in for a moment"
He reaches to a table next to him and pours himself a glass a water.
Yes, everyone knows their names and can recall all their abilities and how to use them. You just can't seem to remember where you're from, or what you were doing before waking here.
Tormir sits up as he listens. He looks around the room, takes in a first impression of the other 3, and says, "Wait, wait, wait. We're dead? But we're not dead? We've been dead for a long time, and now something brought us back? Something bad killed us, then we were dead for a long time, and now something good has brought us back? And we're entrusted with the task of saving the multiverse by putting a stop to the bad things that have already killed each of us once?"
He looks again at his new associates. "And I'm to team up with an Elf, a half-elf, and a human to do it? I guess that makes me the muscle of this operation. And who are you?" he says to the mysterious old man.
"Oh. I meant him" Tormir says, pointing at the "enigmatic looking old fellow" who spoke to the group when they all woke. "But Hi, Jim. I'm Tormir. It's nice to meet you - although in weird circumstances."
OOC: I hadn't clicked that the human wizard also met the description of "Mysterious old man"!
Looking at Tormir he says "Well now that you put it that way it does sound rather silly doesn't it." He chuckles a bit "Hmm, yes. You have an advantage though. Who or whatever killed you thinks your dead."
Noticing Jim checking himself he says "I assure you Jim, you are all there"
"As to who I am, well, I think it's best that you just call me 'Old Man'. I apologize. I am not trying to be coy but it's probably best for you to not know in case any information is pried out of you down the road."
Jim: In looking around the room you notice that there's no clouds outside the windows, in fact there's no sky that you can see. Just a soft yellowish glow. The room itself also seems to glow with a soft white radiance that you don't see the source of.
"So where do we start in saving the world? Where are we? What is the outside world like? Is it a world at war? Or does it still feel like relatively normal life with all of this going on out of sight of ordinary folk?"
"No, no, the world is not at war. Not in any way anyone would notice yet anyway. I would start with finding out who or what killed you or what you were doing before it happened. When you are ready I will transport you all near to where you were found."
"As to what this place is. I suppose you could think of it as a bubble that exists outside of other planes. It was created just for this purpose and will be collapsed when we leave."
Lorros stands and looks at the group around him. "Forgive me sir, you said the place where we were all found. I have no memory of this group, do you have any knowledge if we died fighting side by side or as individuals?"
"You said we'd been dead longer than mortal means should've been able to revive us. I'm not familiar with necromancy, or any school of magic for that matter, so don't know what that really means. But you seem to think that whoever killed us is still around to be stopped. Exactly how long have we been dead?"
"Oh you've only been dead a few weeks. I may have exaggerated a bit with the whole mortal means thing to sound dramatic, but, well. I didn't want to tell you but it seems your souls didn't want to come back, or were perhaps unable to find their way back on their own. Hence there had to be some intervention on your behalf."
Turning to Lorros, "You were all found together and died at roughly the same time so I would think you were fighting together. I suppose the strain on returning may have damaged your memories more than expected. Give it a few days and hopefully some of it will return."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I'd like to insight-check the old man. I figure if I know I can trust him a bit, and believe him when he says we were all probably fighting together, then I can trust the others a little more.
Lorros walks towards Tormir with his hand extended "Lorros Radan, and I hope we can get to the bottom of this mess quickly before whatever or whoever killed us realises that we're not as dead as they left us"
"Indeed." Tormir shakes Lorros's hand, "It's funny, and I don't mean to be rude, but I would never have imagined I'd have chosen an elf and a half-elf as travelling companions if I hadn't been told that was the case. Your talents must speak for themselves, to have overcome my dwarven stubbornness in a past life.
Tell me, what are each of your talents in battle? For my part, I prefer the "up-close-and-personal" style, if you know what I mean."
"No offence taken. I for one like to use the terrain to my advantage and pick folk off from the shadows. That said I can hold my own in a skirmish when steel meets steel."
"My name is Freyalise Falkor and i..." Freyalise voice trembling suddenly turns away from the group, she slumps to the ground trembling. "I know this magic, i am a Necromancer, but not like this, what power?" Freyalise starts muttering to herself and begins to sob.

OOC: Just putting a post in so that I'm subscribed to the thread. No rush for the others to arrive.
Also, does my character even know his name?

”I’m...”
The wizard looks unsure for a second then opens his robe slightly peering inside at his left shirt breast.
”Jim. My name’s Jim. Obviously.”
Jim surveys the room.

Having said that, remind me of your names?" Tormir looks particularly at the elf and half-elf since Jim's already introduced himself.
