By the decree of House Sivis, a call to adventure is announced throughout the forums of D&D Beyond! The mysterious MightyOwl, hero of the Battle of Cairn Hill, reclaimer of the Mirror of the Seventh Moon, shieldbrother of the Old Bear of Breland, and amateur scholar of the Draconic Prophecy, now calls on the brave and noble souls of roving adventurers throughout D&D Beyond to join them in their latest quest - a dice-fueled exploration of the world of Eberron! House Sivis has joined forces with the enigmatic MightyOwl in a special promotion of House Sivis' newest publication: Eberron: Rising From the Last War! If you or someone you know wishes to partake in this historic undertaking, MightyOwl urges you to seek them out, regardless of your class, creed, or complexion!
"Give me your tired Last War veterans, your poor guildess magewrights, your huddled dragonmarked scions longing to breathe free," says MightyOwl. "Send these, the homeless Callestan urchins, the tempest-tost Lhazaar sailors to me, I lift my everbright lantern by my House Kundarak*-warded door!"
But be warned, there are only so many people that MightyOwl can accommodate on this journey of epic proportions! So come one, come all, to answer the call of House Sivis and MightyOwl! Gold, glory, and good company await those who act quickly and accept this offer while they still can!
This special decree brought to you by House Sivis, Khorvaire's speedy, secure, and steadfast speaking and scribing solution!
* This special promotion is not sponsored by House Kundarak nor any of its affiliates through Article 29, Section 2, Subsection 38 of the Korth Edicts
Well, now that I've gotten the flavor text out of the way, hello! Since last summer I have been fascinated with the Eberron campaign setting. I've run a couple of one shots for my friends and have had a lot of fun, but I'm really itching to get a PbP campaign going! However, this campaign is not going to take place in the D&D Beyond forums, but rather on a discord server that I have made. I'm using the Avrae bot for our dice rolls, which also has a way to connect a D&D beyond character sheet to the bot and use it as a reference for attacks, stats, etc. Even if you have no experience with discord at all, it is very easy to make an account and learn how to use it!
Now, onto the specifics. I'm shooting for a maximum party of five players, and it's first come first serve. Please only join if you're very sure you will be available/interested in participating over a long period of time. I understand that real life is full of uncertainty, and must take priority over D&D, that things get busy, and that emergencies do come up, but joining the group only to drop out or ghost us later throws off the party. Here's my list of expectations:
1. Please be mature. I love shenanigans and fun in D&D, but there is a time and place for it. I am not requiring you to be an adult (18+) to participate, but I am expecting you to act like one.
2. Please be respectful. Kind of goes with number one. This is a game that succeeds or fails based on the fun that the whole group is having, not the individual. Treat your fellow players and DM with respect and settle any conflicts or disputes between you and your fellow players with civility.
3. Please be patient. This is going to go on over a long period of time due to the nature of PbP and my own very busy life (and no doubt your own busy life, too). I'm operating out of the US Pacific Time Zone, but I am willing to play with anyone regardless of their time zones with the understanding that there may be a lag in playtime while we wait for someone to wake up/get off of work and post their turn.
4. Please have fun. It's a game! Games are fun! Take it seriously, but not too seriously. Success is fun, and so is failure. We're all in this together and we all want to have fun, so let's ensure that we do!
If you are interested in joining, create a level one character of any race/class combination from published material only. No UA/Homebrew. I am very big on role-playing as a DM and encourage my players to create a rich backstory for their characters. Eberron offers so much for players to work with in terms of creating a character. The heroes of this setting are not black and white, but exist in shades of gray; good people will do bad things in order to keep the peace, and evildoers may perform a good deed every now and then. Normally I do not allow evil-aligned characters, but you may certainly play one as long as you are not an a**hole about it ;). Wayfinder's Guide and Eberron: Rising From the Last War offer a lot of resources you can use to make a great Eberron character. While players with an understanding of the campaign setting are preferred, but even if you have no experience with the Eberron setting, you can join in and learn!
We will be playing some old premade 3.5e modules that I am revamping to 5th edition. The campaign begins in Sharn, City of Towers, so be sure to connect your character to the city somehow!
Unfortunately, I am a poor college student and cannot afford a subscription to D&D Beyond or purchase their Eberron sourcebooks, so you'll have to access those on your own if you need more information, unless we get someone who has them and can enable content sharing in a campaign!
After a whole lot of tl;dr, I think that's it! Don't hesitate to reach out with questions. I will be editing the list below for our roster of players, then create a campaign on D&D Beyond and post an invite link to the discord server in it. Thank you, and may your rolls always be high!
Talon was born into a family of merchants who served House Lyrandar. Specifically they helped pioneer the air ship trade routes used today. Talon always had a knock for pilot the ships and actually enjoyed the trips to sell goods, yet he still felt out out of place. As he matured, his body changed in unexpected ways, his teeth began to sharpen, and his ears began to end with a point. His eyes that were once deep brown, have become pitch black. The changes caused a divide between his house and more importantly his family. Despite this Talon, leaned into his differences and explores the edges of his primal desires.
Around his 9th year, Talon came across the Blood of Vol, a religious group preaching of community and power form within. Nothing had resonated with him quite like this. Talon never returned to the airship as it departed. He couldn't live with himself, if he did not pursue this path.
Dain is a scholar and sage who started out as a crafter, following after his family's business. He found he was more suited to the scholarly pursuits though, and his family was fine with him moving to the University to continue his studies.
(I plan on flushing this out further, but here is the start...)
Background: Guild Merchant (Not really anymore but backstory explains it)
Backstory:
Evelina was born into a wealthy merchant family, and from her youngest days she knew she was loved. Her family taught her that family was forever, and that no matter what happened they would always be there for her. Evelina had always been fascinated by the gods of the temple she and her family attended, to the point that by the time her younger brother was 15 and she was approaching 20 she was ready to enter the temple and become a acolyte in service to them. That all changed the day her whole family became sick.
The healers that came to them had never seen nor could even tell what kind of illness had come over them. Her parents slowly died, one after the other. Evelina called out to the gods for help, but no help came. She kept praying to them, until the day her brother looked like he would finally perish. The gods still wouldn't answer her prayers, and in one final desperate plea for help she called out for anyone, anything, to save her brother so she wouldn't be alone.
Help came in the blinding light of a Solar. He offered her help, but only at a price. He'd save her brother, but she would be bound to his service as long as he deemed it necessary. She agreed, not being able to bear the idea of being alone without her brother.
A deal made, a pact bound. As part of its payment the Solar took her eye with him. Her brother lived, and Evelina left him in care of the village they lived in as she left as per the Solar's instructions. She still looked sick, and people gave her odd looks because of it, but the power she had now ment that she could help people in ways shed never be able to at the temple. She still feared the Solar though. The stories her parents told her made it seem like they were entities of pure good and justice, making the wrongs of the world right. This one seemed different, but she never asked about it during the times it communicated with her, too afraid to ask. So she carried on, ensuring what it wanted done was completed, the ever looming thought of it taking her brother away never fully out of her mind.
I'll need to talk to you about my patron because with the backstory I've written it'll be a bit easier to talk about it beforehand
Summary of backstory: HK-13 was built to assist the inventors working directly with Merrix d'Cannith in one of his many laboratory's in Sharn. Instructed in becoming an Artificer itself, he has now been ordered to seek out the summons from MightyOwl to further House Cannith's prestige and also keep a tab on what is going on with House Sivis.
