A band of adventurers, tired after years of hard work, retire. after much research, a wizard discovers a secluded place run by paladins. a place for adventurers battleweary, who have to many scars, inside and outside, to rejoin society. the wizard has decided to go, but cant teleport and the way is to riddled with danger for her to feel safe going alone. she sends out a call and you join her. all of your adventures are ending at approximately the same time. she was bringing a sorcerer with her from her party, but died unexpectedly at the boss fight. the sorcerer has her plans and maps but doesn't know much else then that. we all have the same knowledge based off the maps that seem to say the only way is to journey thru the underdark. being seasoned adventurers, why not?
we are all level ten.
k, so after some reasearch im supposed to dm you. here's how this will work: ill do the plot and all, but you have brains. so ill let you do some descriptions and stuff going off the general locations and characters I feed you, you can control npcs within reason, etc(i can override any of this, but as long as it doesn't contradict plot or character I wont). and I'm going to play a character too. i did written rps where there was no dm and we worked together on plot and trusted each other to have brains and us them, so neither of us micromanaged. if you're cool with being treated like an intelligent human with a basic understanding of writing, then we'll work out just fine. if not, well... i couldn't find any other campaigns so make your own?
this is my first one. i write a lot so I have experience with plot, but I don't know if I'm supposed to dm or what. I'll generally keep the plot hidden so it will be more fun for you. please used fleshed out characters with complex backstories and motives. probably good alignments but neatral works too. my dm told me a story about the one campaign he played with evil alignments and for the sake of no halfling characters being randomly eaten, I'm going to have to say no to evil alignments(tho if one of you has a secret evil alignment that would be cool plotwise.)
My character, Shade Riven, is a sorcerer who just finally exacted rvenge on a Dragonborn who killed the last of her family. what she did to him and the fate of her sister haunts her. she would do anything to defend the innocent regardless of the law or other party members. shes bringing the apps and stuff but she doesn't know much more than anyone else. the retired wizard was Shimmer Goldpetal, my first character who was bland with a side of bland and had no backstory. I'm kinda glad to kill her. if i accidentally say Sayah or some other name i have so many rps and characters and dnd characters going i cant keep them straight. sayah is a homebrew race su*cidal sorcerer
Shade stabbed the Dragonborn she had hated for so long feeling her powers boost(as she went up a level) as they occasionally did. the tinge of red drained from her eyes and she turned back to her party. a few were still in skirmishes but most of his men were dead. they were all one on one and her party had it under control so she waited, watching Shimmer. Shimmer was going to give her more details on Paladin Mount soon. she tried to relax. she had done it. he was dead.
all that she felt inside was dread. and emptyness. so, so empty after all this time. searching, hoping, trying to do anything for vengeance. now what? she went to a retirement home for senile nutcase vetrans? she wasn't as fulfilled as she thought she would be. she glanced down at the body and the grimace marking his scaled red face. it brought her no joy. but she had to continue. she headed towards Shimmer to help her, shooting a spell as she went that missed. she didn't care, this fight was over.
suddenly she saw a spurt of blood, a quick dagger, a grunt, and shimmers face contorting. she froze. shimmers body fell in slow motion, like a petal falling on a gentle breeze, face still, blood spewing from her gut. she couldn't be dead. she shouted to peter, the healer, to do something! he dealt the final blow and turned, staring at her. then he met her eyes and shook his head. she let out a guttural cry and ran at the human, easily killing him, but it didn't make her feel better. even beyond death, he hurt the ones she loved. Shimmer had been the one trying to help her heal, the one who told her she was more than scars. dead.
her best friend was gone. she collapsed on the body, crying violently. the others finished and stood in a ring. she heard a few gasps and a couple sobs, but they gave her space. why couldn't she have died? she had nothing to live for! Shimmer wasn't broken. she had been- no, no not had been. no, she was. because they would just have shimmer cast the reviving spell... she couldn't anymore. she turned to peter, desperate.
"cast it, cast the spell!"
"i cant," his voice was gentle, but she saw his shock. she turned to Dayne.
"Please!" he shook his head. he was a ranger, anyway. she turned to the bard. he shrugged helplessly.
"its... its ok, we'll take her to someone who can. it will be ok," she knew it was possible. peter had died. he was a gnome now instead of a genisi but he was alive. shimmer would be too.
"wait, i have a spell to determine the state of her soul, so we can see if its possible," peter said(no that's not a spell but i don't care). "if her soul is captured because of a curse we don't know about it wont work."
"no, no shes fine."
peter cast it. she watched his face fall and froze. "w-what?" she choked out.
"shes unwilling. shes happy where she is," peters face stayed calm but tears leaked from his eyes. "shes gone."
"NO!"
she spent a week catotonicly. finally, she came too. she had nothing to live for. yes, she had shimmers maps and notes, but that had been shimmers dream. then she remembered the party assembled. they needed her. she would go on living for them. she said her goodbyes and walked to the Yawning Portal Inn, the designated meeting place in Waterdeep.
first post done. ill add a link to the character sheet when i update it to level 10 and update the backstory and stuff. please reply with a link to your character sheet and an introduction to your character, motives for adventuring, enemies, and triggers(character triggers not yours. if you feel comfortable sharing yours I'll respect them, of course). NO INTERCHARACTER OR NPC AND CHARACTER ROMANITIC RELATIONSHIPS. firstly, unnessacary drama, secondly, we'll be moving a lot and npcs should have lives, wheres intercharacter is just... no. on so many levels. if you wan to adopt a random child in a village we pass i wont stop you(unlike a certain dm who said no after i already picked a kid and made a character sheet. i think the kids parents were dead anyways. my entire party demonized me and for some reason i lost the trust of the town we saved.) alright, hope you join!
If you ever want a short story to read and don't mind suicide, depression, death, etc, just ask(literally have over a hundred of my short stories at easy access)
so just to clarify bc i don't think it will show you her backstory, Zarat was the Dragonborn. he killed her sister, chamomile, when they were kids. shimmer replaced chamomile to her and she saw shimmer as her sister, and her second chance. she was determined to protect shmmer where she had failed before. she failed twice and is now only continuing because shimmer wanted to go to Paladin Mount.
those who go in knew what shimmer looked like but also know that she would have: "a tall half elf, a raven perched on her shoulder and her face in shadow from the hood of her black cloak, red eyes shining out of the shadow and raven hair spilling from the hood." that is shade rivn, my half elf with acute depression and so many other things. i don't have a concrete list of triggers for her, but ill launch into flashbacks whenever it seems appropriate.
she is now a level 9 sorcerer multiclassed to level 1 monk. ill keep advancing her sorcerer side, not her monk side.

I think it might be best if you focus on GMing the campaign for a group of players instead of pushing your own character's agenda. People will resent following along in your story for your character.

I agree with Wysperra. "I'm supposed to DM you." kinda says it all.
If you like writing and want to DM, then cut your teeth on DMing and focus on the players. You could maybe make this other character an NPC, but I would tone down the build so you don't overshadow the players. Right now, the PC is off the rails with her ability scores/feats. How can you have the stats 14 19 15 11 16 20 with two feats, one of which is Svirfneblin Magic?!? But even then, can you be unbiased and not put your finger on the scale to favor your interests?
i said i wont, maybe that was miscommuniacted. i have no interest in micromanaging, and shade knows nothing more than anyone else.

i don't know how this forum works. based on a different thread it seemed like it was supposed to be written dnd and I don't want to dm when we can all use our brains.
shades arcwont dominate the plot any more than any other characters. it will influence her decisions which will influence everyone and the plot, but that applies to all arcs.

Well, you are DMing if you are creating the world, plot, and rules. If you don't want to DM so you can play out your PC's story arc, it's kinda a red flag.
Nimbus, the storm bard. A tall, handsome half-elf, whose platinum blonde hair seemed to always stand on end, as if electrified. so heres the plan. if one more person joins within 24 hours of winsome genisis post then we'll start. if not, we'll all create a second character(preferably a tank, like a barbarian or paladin, and we need a healer) and have a party of 6 to move out with. if either of you doesn't want to make 2 characters, that's fine, we'll have a big enough group(but we do need tanks because the underdark is nasty and mind flayers will almost certainly kidnap at least one of us at some point) if only 1 or 2 of us make second characters. right now I have a back secondary character. shes a paladin with a few healing spells but I focused on making her more fighting prone.
oh btw I forgot to say earlier but to anyone looking over this in the future: after we make it private we can still incorporate new characters. tho preferably be a race in the underdark, like a drow who wants to reform but doesn't know how to go about it or something(oh my goodness if we can save a drow ill disappear for a week. don't worry, I just passed out for the thrill of having finally reformed a drow. ill probably hit my head and be rushed to the hospital, where I'll be in a breif coma.) anyways, still open unless we have a ton of people and it would be insanity to add more.
