''More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin (pronounced fan-duh-lin) prospered as well. But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path. A powerful force of orcs reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost. For centuries, rumors of buried riches have attracted treasure seekers and opportunists to the area around Phandalin, but no one has ever succeeded in locating the lost mine. In recent years, people have resettled the area. Phandalin is now a rough-and-tumble frontier town. More important, the Rockseeker brothers-a trio of dwarves have discovered the entrance to Wave Echo Cave, and they intend to reopen the mines. Unfortunately for the Rockseekers, they are not the only ones interested in Wave Echo Cave. A mysterious villain known as the Black Spider controls a network of bandit gangs and goblin tribes in the area, and his agents have followed the Rockseekers to their prize. Now the Black Spider wants Wave Echo Cave for himself, and he is taking steps to make sure no one else knows where it is.''
Recruting 4 players for Lost Mine of Phandelver. Intention is to play it to the end (and if the players want) continue from there. The game will be hosted here in PBP format, prefered frequency is a post per day. Characters will start at level 1 with milestone advancement, PHB options only; preferably good/neutral characters. Character applications should follow the outlines below:
Name, race, class, tendency, background

personality traits, ideals, bonds, flaws
back story (one or two paragraphs are enough, dont forget to say why are you on your way to Phandalin!)
Name: Isabella (Iz) Sagefoot Race: Halfling (Stout) Class: Paladin (Neutral follower of Urogalan) Tendencies: Iz's normally bright and cheery demeanor is marked by anger at her parents' recent disappearance. Isabella is small and slight, even for a halfling. She has brown hair and eyes and big hairy feet that remain bare even when she dons her mail. She wears a cloak with a hood and cowl while traveling, and always wears more layers of clothing than other people would find comfortable. She has poor vision and is constantly squinting to try to bring things into focus. Background: Outlander
Stats:STR 15 DEX 10 CON 14 INT 10 WIS 12 CHA 14
Personality Traits: I might fail, but I will never give up. I love a good puzzle or mystery. Ideals: The dead and their belongings deserve to be treated with respect. Bonds: I want to find my parents, who disappeared on an expedition. Flaws: When given the choice of going left or right, I always go left.
Backstory: Isabella is the daughter of halfling archeologists from Silverymoon. Though her parents were admired academics, Iz never took well to books, gleefully picking fights as a youth and pretending to be a conqueror of evil as she ran around with the other kids around the university campus. Eventually, her parents relented and allowed her to train in the ways of martial combat. While she reveled in learning to fight and became quite good at it, she always felt she was missing something. She eventually discovered that her mother was researching lost halfling history, and discovered the halfling pantheon. Her agnostic parents were simply delighted that Isabella was finally showing an interest in books, and allowed her to follow along in her mother's research.
Last year, her parents headed south to do some research, leaving Isabella in Silverymoon with their community. When her parents didn't return, she set out in search of them. After some investigation in Neverwinter, she heard that caravans heading south have been being attacked by highwaymen of late, and she worries that her parents may have been caught up in one such attack. She signed on for the first job she could find headed south along the High Road, which just so happens to be headed toward Phandalin.
Unrelenting, Kind, Protective. Honor is the most important trait of a person. Father, other Dwarves of his clan, Brother. Won't back down from a challenge due to respect for his mother.
Dalnir had the upbringing of most dwarves; well trained in cutting both stone and enemies alike. He excelled in his training, showing a clear affinity for fighting. He would often forego wearing the protective armor meant for the training sessions, as they only seemed to slow him down. His older brother Logrud, however, often thought Dalnir foolish for not donning armor, believing that one day a single slip up would cause Dalnir to be terribly wounded. When Dalnir still succeeded without armor, there became a rivalry between the two, but that changed pretty quickly. While he was still young, his mother, Amber, died while fighting a roaming orc band. This sent his father, Ragnor into a downward spiral, as he remains in grief. Dalnir, though he still misses his mother, fights ever more valiantly in honor of her. As such, he will hardly ever refuse any challenge offered to him as he feels he would be disgracing his mother should he ever do so. Logrud followed a similar path for a time, but eventually settled back down, tired of all the fighting, to help Ragnor deal with his grief. As the years go on, Dalnir continues fighting in the name of his mother. Aside from his expertise in fighting, however, he likes collecting curious and unique items, as his mother used to keep a collection of such items. The most important item he will ever hold, though, is his mother’s amber pendant, which he keeps on his person at all times to remember her by. Now that Dalnir has heard word of the Rockseekers discovering the entrance to Wave Echo Cave, he marches towards Phandalin to aid them. He believes that if he helps them reclaim the forges of old, he and his mother's family name would forever be cemented in history, one of the best ways to honor Amber. He also hopes to find some curios along the way, to continue growing his collection.

PERSONALITY TRAITS
I often get lost in my own thoughts and contemplation, becoming oblivious to my surroundings. I am utterly serene, even in the face of disaster.
IDEALS
Self-Knowledge. If you know yourself, there’s nothing left to know. (Any)
BONDS
I’m still seeking the enlightenment I pursued in my seclusion, and it still eludes me.
FLAWS
I harbor dark, bloodthirsty thoughts that my isolation and meditation failed to quell.
Backstory: Being given away by his parents at a young age, Dargo grew up in a monastery. His training would be his life for many years. Until he was forced to leave the monastery - A terrible accident that resulted in the death of a student forced the hand of his Master. Dargo had the choice of banishment or imprisonment. He chose to see the world and atone for his careless actions.
Searching the world for his "course" in life, he unknowingly has found himself in Phandalin. Seeing the heavy hand of the bandits, lead by the Black Spider, he hopes to be able to help those not able to defend themselves.
He seems oblivious that it was thoughts like this that ultimately led to his expulsion from the monastery. Defending those unable to do so themselves, tends to get Dargo in more trouble than it's worth.

Not for the kinds of injuries themselfs, but rather by the sheer amount of them as well as the condition of equipment and stations. But he grew into it. But as the conflicts became worse there were more and more soldiers he couldnt save. This began to tear him apart. He began to pray, but to no avail. During one operation he had a breakdown. Confused and in panic he rushed out of the tent abandoning his patient. Away from the frontlines he wandered through wilderness, praying for assistance and, against all of his hope was heard. He was offered the power to heal and cure others, for he will never abandon his duty ever again. Xianon Lathalas, Lawful Good Wood Elf Monk (Criminal)
I would rather make a new friend than a new enemy; Redemption - there’s a spark of good in everyone; I wish to make amends for the wrongs I've done; I've learned a lot since the old days...but it's often hard for me not to be a jerk.
Xianon was a bit of a hellion in his wilder days. He was a thief and a menace, not only stealing but making life miserable for those who had slighted him. Gundren was one of those targets, and Xianon proved himself to be a spiteful and vindictive antagonist. One strange day, however, he had one of those rare moments of clarity, and suddenly saw through his own charade and discovered how empty and pointless his life had become. He folded his hand, walked out of the tavern, and didn't stop until he had arrived at the nearest monastery. Now, years later, he has returned to become an agent of good, and especially to reconcile with those whom he had tormented - and Gundren is at the top of his list.

In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker hired you you to bring a wagon load of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days' travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found "something big," and that he'd pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen's Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Haliwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to "take care of business." You are traveling along Arto and Jon, two guards who worked with Gundren for quite some time and are of his trust, they are driving the cart while the rest of you escort it.
You've spent the last few days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and you've just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. You've encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail. Night has fallen and the last days of summer are turning to brown leaves as the season changes. Only one day left on the trail. You are around the fire, a hare and potato stew starts to boil on the pot for dinner, you can hear crickets here and there and everything seems quiet, almost still.
Arto - So, Jon *he turns to his companion* our friends here haven't really talked a lot these last few days. I am actually curious.
Jon - *whitout taking his eyes from the stew" Leave them be you shit eater, if they wanna talk the will talk. Besides, it's only one more day 'till Phandalin.
Arto - You are right on the shit eater part, 'cause your food stinks.
Jon - Still better than yours.

(roleplay time people, introduce yourselfs, don't be shy!)
Iz is short and slight, even for a halfling. During the day her pack is almost overflowing with clothes (even though she appears to be wearing four or five layers) and at night it appears almost empty, Iz herself looking rather spherical under the heavy winter garments. She has been pacing during rest breaks oscillating between a look of worry and one of frustration, as she grumbles to herself making high pitched angry noises every so often.
After taking her meal she retreats to the opposite side of the wagon so as not to disturb the others as she waddles back and forth in her layers of clothing, grumbling and gesticulating as best she can, the layers covering her arms limiting her range of motion.
Aster is a human and for that will settle himself a bit closer to jon and arto. He is tall and slender, with a lean face. At night he wraps himself into his fur-trimmed coat. He twists a bandage-roll in his hand and watches the fire. He seems a bit absent.
The wood elf helps himself to some stew, using a pewter cup from his mess kit. Taking a bite, he chokes - but manages to keep it down. He catches Arto's eye in mute agreement, but manages to hold his peace. He's a bit hard to look at, though, with a large winestain birthmark on his let cheek by the eye, making him look tired. The night has a touch of autumn chill, but Xianon seems comfortable in the cold. He can't help but smirk at the halfling as she waddles to and fro. "It's only going to get colder," he says as she makes another trip. "Where are you from, then, halfling? Not Icewind Dale, I'm sure."
Iz leaps back clumsily and squints at the wood elf, then replies as she goes back to her pacing, "Nope, not Icewind Dale, Silverymoon." As she spins on her heel she grumbles under her breath, "Where my parents are supposed to be." Remembering her manners she stops pacing, and looks back at Xianon with a resigned expression, "and you? From where do you hail?" She manages to fold her arms so that her hands (covered by mittens that connect the last three fingers, leaving the pointer and thumb free) are on the hips of her layers, but nowhere near her actual hips.
Dalnir is a large, stocky dwarf, standing a few inches shy of 5 foot and well built. He has a thick black beard, with an amber pendant visibly hanging around his neck. He wears a rugged set of clothes, and always keeps his Great-Axe either on his back or close at hand. Seemingly unbothered by the cold weather, he collects a bowl of stew and moves to sit beside Aster. “The road’s not for ye, eh?” he asks, noting his blank stare.
