Now seeking four special heroes for an adventure in the Westwoods of Grotex’s Talaveroth homebrew world!
Requirements: I am looking for players who are eager to play, imaginative, and who will post often, since I am hoping to keep the game fast-paced. Any races and classes from the PHB, Volo’s and Xanathar’s are fine, I will consider others. No homebrew races or classes, but homebrew backgrounds will be considered, as long as they are reasonable. No evil characters, please.
How to apply: Please post your character concept: race, class, background, alignment, maybe a bit about their personality and/or backstory, whatever info you want to share. If your character has secrets you don’t want to make public, feel free to PM your application to me. Note: We already have a Hexblade warlock in the party.
About the campaign: The Westwoods are home to Talaveroth’s wood elf courts and forest gnome burrows, as well as many fey creatures. If you like, you can read details in the Talaveroth wiki thread. The adventure will have a fairy-tail atmosphere, not too dark, going for a PG/PG-13 feel, and more heavy on RP, exploration and investigation than combat. Milestone advancement. I lean toward comedy, so be prepared for a certain degree of goofiness.
The story begins aboard a public coach heading for the wood elf kingdom of Lomalos. Voracious Gnoll warbands and evil creatures breaking through from the Feywilds and Shadowfell threaten all of the Westwoods, but Lomalos is still a relatively safe and peaceful kingdom...for now.
About the DM: In ancient times, I played and DMed a lot of 2 Edition. I only began 5e last summer, and I am still a bit light on game/rules knowledge. This will be the first PBP I run. So, beware, there will be rough spots. (Beginners are welcome, we will learn together as we go along!) I have done a fair amount of writing, both professionally and not, mostly comic strips…so I hope we can keep each other entertained. I am online way too much and should be able to respond pretty regularly.

Hi Astalda, sounds like a fun campaign. Pondering slightly silly, entertaining character ideas. Would we start at level 1 and would it be Point Buy / Standard Array or roll for stats (and if so reroll ones once, always, not at all?) . Thanks!
Hi, Hexblade! Yes, it will start at Level 1. Stats can be done by any of the methods you listed, dropping ones is fine...I only didn't mention stats because I am much more interested in the actual characters and their players than their numbers, and I've seen many recruiting threads turn into long lists of stat rolls without much context.

Galanodel Tosh is a half-elf Bard, originally from the poorer parts of Kalverak. His pop was a common laborer, his mother a Bard with some elf blood. She left when Del could first talk, though, so he has almost nothing from her but his blade and this pretentious name. He served at a temple to gain an education he could afford. Good at heart, he strives to be more loyal than his mother and more capable than his pa. Also not so poor.

Sounds awesome! I'm working on putting a character sheet together now, but here are my stat rolls.
Ability scores: 141316101416
Character: Makki, Aarakocra Monk
Backstory:
Makki left his home in the Elemental Plane of Air shortly after reaching maturity. He had been bored with the lifestyle of his fellow aarakocra, and went against his family's wishes to set out into the Material Plane. He makes his wages doing street performances of his skills in the martial arts, usually threading comedy and audience participation into his acts. Makki is a fun loving and generally friendly man, but he can take his jests too far and hurt others. He is also very vain. Makki struggles with getting close to people, and cares more about his family than he would ever admit. He hides his desire to return home in an extravagant and often unhealthy lifestyle.
Appearance:
Makki is a brightly colored aarakocra, who puts a lot of stock into his appearance. He has the plumage of a golden pheasant, and ensures that it is kept healthy. He dresses entirely in white, with flowing scraps of fabric sewn onto various places of his costume for the purpose of creating a flashier performance.
Race: High Elf (though after looking at lore wood elf might fit better)
Class: Wizard (looking at school of transmutation specifically)
Background: Noble
Alignment: Neutral Good
Personality/Background (brief/not going to give a 5 page thing with all kind of names right now): The youngest son of one of the families within the Court of Ellantar, and obviously the most prized child of the family for he possesses the capability to use a lot of the arcane. Opposed to his siblings who might only be half/non/divine spell casters. Being coddled his entire life has not only caused him to push back against the family some but has very much given him a slight hero/superiority complex. In the push back against his family it has caused him to rebel. The biggest rebellion has been starting a secret relationship with someone with no magical prowess, thinking a half-orc guard or laborer of some sort, and would be viewed as diluting the bloodline if found out. This is where I mentioned that I'm part of the LGBT community and of course like to have gay character's with gay relationships, which can also put a bit of a hole in passing down the bloodline thing. My character could be on their way to Lomalos to study in the school of the House of Simul and of course to keep him safe since he is full of magic.
About Me: I decided why not and added this. I started playing D&D five years ago. So, 5e is all I know but I absolutely love it. I tend to play a lot online now with a majority of my games are all PBP on discord, with one now being Discord for out of character banter and smaller side rp interactions while this forum here is for main story progression. Since 5e is all I know I know a lot of the rules but am still learning or remembering things daily. I love to RP and really explore and get to know NPCs and PCs. I also have a fondness for battle, I will admit, especially non-standard interesting combat where you can use the environment and such in imaginative ways. Anyways, thank you for taking a look and if you have any questions please PM me.

Ability scores: 10161591711
Name: Raven Darkblade
Race: Half Elf
Class: Rogue
Background: Criminal
Attitude:
Raven is a slink-in-the-shadow type of rogue. She is head-strong and very self-confident in her own skills and abilities.
Appearance:
Raven is a black-haired and fair-skinned half-elf maiden. She is fairly attractive, her body lean and wiry, but very athletic. She wears clothes that blend in to her surroundings, black at night, whatever is normal for the region during the daytime hours.
Backstory:
Raven grew up on the streets of a major city of the area. Her mother worked at a local tavern, where Raven spent much of her time listening to the tails told by adventurers. When not at the tavern she was often running with the wrong crowd, learning to pick pockets, as well as locks, and how to move silently.
I will add more but I am thinking of either a Deep Gnome ranger or an Orc of Ebberon Ranger or possibly a paldin mainly so the character would not have normal minus to intelligence from a VGM orc.
Name: Wrefan
Race: Deep Gnome
Class: Ranger
Background: Soldier
Backstory: Wrefan worked as a scout for his people as they work in the Underdark. His job was to scout tunnels and find ways to the surface where they could build small trading outposts or storage facilities out of reach of their subterranean enemies. Once surface outposts were established Wrefan and other scouts would be sent out to get a pay of the land to see if it was safe for others to explore. Upon coming upon a village they opened trade with, he was hired by them to do work on the surface where he has spent sometime in order to build better relations.
Name: Taruk Sharptusk
Race: Orc of Ebberon
Class: Paladin
Background: Soldier
Backstory: Taruk from a young age was picked to become a soldier for an order of knights that were sent out to spread both the word and law of their Warrior God. Upon reaching age, Taruk was sent out as a squire for an older memeber of their order, learning more of their creed and how to fight the evils of the world. After a few years of training he was able to proceed to quest on his own, his remaining lessons to come from experience.
I am posting on my phone so if it is ok I will add more to give each a short backstory.
Backstory: Everyone new and loved the mage Alfonse, a forest gnome of great character, quick wit and outstanding humor. Better yet everyone knew of Alfonse's companion and best friend, his dog Gus. Gus went everywhere with his master and everyone knew and loved Gus as well. Then after one of Alphonse's wanderings he returned home, not himself. The mage had caught some rare disease that caused him to waste away. Distraught at first, Alphonse spent weeks trying to fond some cure. Failing that he eventually started to put his things in order. then the mage's thoughts turned to his faithful companion, Gus. What to do about Gus. The mage had no family nor ward and though everyone loved Gus, it didn't seem right to the mage to chances Gus' fate to the hands of another.
So the mage took to his studies again, consumed in the mindset to solve a problem he felt was his to tackle. After study and casting of several spells, Gus the dog became Gus the humanoid. Once Gus was "born" the mage set to work, using magic to delay his doom he began educating Gus in all that the mage could.
7 years passed. The mage passes and his creation leaves to strike out on his own in this world.
Class: Barbarian (Going path of the Totem Warrior or maybe Wild Soul if the DM is okay with Unearther Arcana)
Allignment: Lawful Nuetral
Background: Inheritor
Backstory:
Mindartis and his twin sister Althaea were born deep in the Feywild in an Eladrin village. As they grew up, it became obvious to those people that they were greatly different. While his sister preferred to change with the seasons and as her mood fit her, Mindartis found himself to enjoy the rage and heat of summer. He started to train more on his own, turning the rage he felt into a tool he could use to protect the people of the village when monstrous creatures came to attack their village. His sister also trained, but with the natural music that seemed to fill the Feywilds everyday.
Their training came to an end the day they woke up with tattoos that went from their hand to their shoulder. For Althaea, the tattoos consisted of constantly moving stars and the moon, while for Mindartis the sun burned brightly overhead, with the sunrays trailing down his forearm and ending at the palm of his hand. The two of them were confused, along with the people of their village, who had never seen anything like it before. It was suggested to them that the answers they sought could be found outside the Feywild, or even deeper within the Feywild itself. So the twins split up, Althaea moving farther into the Feywild to see if the answers could be found there, while Mindartis entered the Westwoods to see if perhaps the answers they looked for had been discovered by those of that realm.
I hear you on the long threads of stat rolls Astalda, thanks! (Sometimes I get into wacky multi-class ideas if we start at higher levels or I have roll a stat array with a few strong stats is mostly why I asked.)
I'm thinking an Eladrin barbarian or bard, if Eladrin is alright for this Campaign
We can work with Eladrin. :) Barbarian might be a better choice since we already have a good Bard application above, and no muscle yet.

Backstory: Cromwell grew up in a small village near Daggerford. All his life weird occurrences would happen around him. One day his village was under attack by some bandits. As Cromwell watched his father get cut down, a power exploded out of him. The bandits were slaughtered... but the powers didn't stop there. Everyone Cromwell knew was killed that day. He has since traveled, trying to learn from other mages how to control his powers
Violet "V" Brightaxe is from the smithcaste in the great undercity of the Frostkeep Mountains. Her life has been plotted out since birth: grow up crafting weapons, then of age marry a smith caste boy, and retire her hammers for the marriage home. V did not want this life or at least she had always railed against it. From her teen years V found trouble in all manner of ways from non-dwarven friends whom traveled her mountain homeland to the dark elves that constantly were at odds with the undercity. She ran away on the eve of her betrothal ceremony and hasn't looked back!
Side note: Imagine Hal from Henry IV before he ascended the throne but a female dwarf.
I am going to take off the recruiting tag now, because there are more than enough qualified applicants and great character ideas for the slots we have open. Hexblade37, if you are planning to post a character submission, you are still welcome to do so!
I will PM the chosen by tomorrow, and once all the party is filled, will post here let everyone else know that the decision has been made.

Backstory: (rough summation not full form) abandoned by his parents Adam spent the first 16 years of his life raised by a mountaintop guild of swordsmen. When he was 16 he made a grave error and was banned from the guildhall. For years he worked as a mercenary and hitman until one day he was instructed to kill the swordsmen who raised him refusing the client hired some beast tamers to do it, blaming himself for the incident Adam sought revenge killing the client and hoping to one day take out the beast tamers. Since then he wanders to and from bars drinking away his sorrows and picking up the odd job now and then often hunting dangerous creatures.

When Krystal was 13, his father, wanting him to have a better life, sent him to an adventure guild in the next town. He trained until he graduated at 18, being well known around the guild and the town. He returned home only to find smoking ruins of his home, his father dead.
