I’m running the Starter Adventure ‘The Lost Mines of Phandelver’ for 4-5 players.
So little bit about me, My name is Sam. I’m a 19 year old male living in Australia and I have very little D&D experience. I have played the Lost Mines of Phandelver before as a player but did not get through the whole campaign. I own the physical copy of the adventure book and will be using that as my main source to guide the adventure, so it is not necessary to own the book on D&D beyond to play.
About the adventure: Centuries ago, a cavern named the ‘Wave Echo Cave’ was said to hold great magical power and wealth unforetold. Rumours of this cave led many treasure hunters and opportunists in the area to search for this hidden cave, but to no avail. Lost to time, the mine had become more of a myth than a hidden location, and search attempts began to wane. That is, until Gundren Rockseeker, your friend/acquaintance hired you to escort a wagon full of supplies claiming that he had found the lost cave and needed all of your collective help. The Lost Mines of Phandelver begins with the party at level 1 and will take you through to level 4-5 by the end,
Applying: I’m looking for newer players such as myself, but all are welcome! Please fill out the following in your application:
Name: Race: Class:
Level of D&D Experience: New, Veteran, casual player (Optional) Character Background: Keep it short to avoid spoilers for other players ;)
(Optional) Your Background: Tell us a little bit about yourself, if you want.
Edit: We will be using the in-built dice roller to determine Ability Scores, but hold off on that as we will do it as a group after recruitment.
Second Edit: My post may have made it seem like im looking for new players exclusively, my apologies. I mentioned in the comments that Ideally we would have a mixture of both new and older players so that newer players can learn the ropes and older players can enjoy a fresh starter experience, so apply if you wish no matter how much experience you have! If you're a more experienced player I only ask that you be a bit more patient if the game moves a bit more slow/awkwardly than you may be used to :)
Third Edit: Applications close when this post says 'Last edited by Llamar: 12 hours ago'
Name: Auspex Gemseer Race: Deep Gnome Class: Wizard Background: Auspex's enclave of deep gnomes was failing. Their seers told of an ancient and powerful magic that might help them turn the tide against their drow enemies. They sent him to the surface to find Gundren Rockseeker, who was the only link their augury could connect to the lost magic.
What stat generation method are you using? Standard for these the PbP community here seems to be rolling, re-roll 1's (there's an option for it on the Ability Score tab on the dice roller). Others do point-buy or sometimes standard array.
The built in Ability Score roller will be used unless there's heavy objections, and I would allow 1's to always be re-rolled. I will add this to the post and clarify, thanks
Name: Mordun Sunter Race: Human Class: Fighter Background: Soldier. Mordun was a soldier in the Waterdeep military, but grew disillusioned with following leaders who didn't even bother to learn his name and decided to strike out on his own. This is his first job as a solo mercenary, and he is determined it will go well.
I'm not a new player, and don't mind if you choose others, but I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring anyway.
Thanks for the clarification! Also, for complete transparency I've been playing and DMing D&D for a few years now so I'm not new. If you'd prefer a wholly new group I'm happy to sit out in favor of bringing new players into the game!
No worries, and just to add further clarity I'm not really making it exclusive to new players, sorry if it sounded that way in the post haha. Ideally we'd have a mixture of both new and old players so that there's that balance of experience where new players can freely learn the ropes (myself included, I haven't DMed a game irl) but having older players to guide and have fun on a new adventure. Will again add to the post, I'm also new to using forums like this as well :)
Name: Calyvorra "Callie" Ballard (née de Vause) Race: Wood Elf Class: Rogue Background: Noble. It wasn't easy growing up with half a dozen older brothers and her parents' expectations weighing her down, so when a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker gave her the opportunity to leave it all behind, Calyvorra never looked back. A few years down the line, Calyvorra was only too happy to return the favor when her old friend Gundren asked for her help.
I'm also on the more experienced side, but if you'll have me, I'll gladly play!
Hello! I have tried this adventure a few times, but cant get past the first town.( if you played, you know already ) I'll make a new character right away.
Name: Bartholomew Jones Race: Human Class: Warlock Background: Bartholomew is a warlock who grew up in a secluded town. When his powers were discovered (which was quite recently), he was banished from the town as the rulers were too scared of him taking control. He is currently looking for a job, preferably in an adventuring party.
I have been playing 5e for about 2-3 years but this will be my first time playing Play-By-Post. I also live in Australia, which would be convenient for times of playing and being online.
I’m fairly experienced- I’m currently DM’ing a PBP as well as a home game via discord, but I’ve never played through Phlandelver.
Name: Anna Elderberry
Race Halfling (Ghostwise)
Class: Rogue
Background: Smuggler - A plain-looking halfling from an insular seafront village, Anna and her community made their living from ‘salvaging’ the not-uncommon wreckage of ships that foundered trying to traverse the treacherous coastline between Neverwinter and Leilon. Though she lacked her cousin’s talent for illusions that would push a ship closer to shore, she was particularly talented at spotting fine loot and nimbly squeezing into hidden compartments, as well as ensuring that nobody from the Revenue ever reported back on the village’s activities. She’s aquainted with networks of smugglers up and down the coast, and knows how best to hide from the attentions of government and guards alike.
Name: Squelch (Sound of a tool being thrust into something mushy)
Race: Kenku
Class: Cleric - Grave
Background: Criminal
Character Backstory: Squelch grew up in a large city on the streets. He was "conscripted" into a thieve's guild at an early age and showed a knack for fixing up guild members when things went wrong. Over time, his fascination with the barrier between life and death grew into devotion.
Level of D&D Experience: Playing (mostly DM'ing) since 1996, pretty new to PbP
Morgan's clan was destroyed by a dragon and he has been on his own since then. He has taken on work here and there as a bodyguard and soldier, currently having just finished some time as a guard in Neverwinter.
Name: Brandor Battlebrew Race: Hill Dwarf Class: Monk
Level of D&D Experience: Veteran (Optional) Character Background: Brandor Battlebrew, sometimes known as "Brando the Hammerfist" , is a washed up pit fighter. After a few months studying martial arts he took his new skills to the arena and did well in the lower ranks. Quickly he topped out and started taking loses. Debts built as well as a drinking habit. Brandor is now on a path to get his life back on track and escape some of his seedy past.
My background: I've been playing DnD about 20 years, mostly playing some DMing. Run loads of 1-shots through the 3.5 and 4e eras to help new players along. So happy to help!
I'd be keen to join this game - using a character I've tried to run in several campaigns so far, all of which have come to an early end due to other people's RL commitments - so I'm keen to actually get him past level 1!
Name: Grum
Race: Half-Orc
Class: Ranger
Background: Never accepted either by human or orc society, Grum eventually grew sick of the dark looks and disapproval. Grum chose a life of wandering the wilderness instead (I'll PM you a more detailed version)
Level of D&D Experience: I've taken part in 7 pbp campaigns on this site, but nothing IRL. As mentioned above, none of my previous campaigns have lasted very long. As I'm never likely to get a regular group going IRL, I'd love to play a campaign here that lasts a while!
