You and your small group of friends have gathered in the Yawning Portal to toast the loss of Malric, a human bard and a mutual friend. Malric was constantly trying to form a group to go on great adventures, and was struck down in an alley when he got tangled up in gang violence which has been growing in the city.
I'm looking for some interesting personalities to play through Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. 4-6 players will be chosen, apply below.
Creation Rules:
Level 1. Milestone XP, Coin Weight, Scores Top, Fixed HP
Ability Scores rolled, or point buy if you prefer. You can switch to point buy if you dislike your rolls.
Standard Equipment for class, or rolled Gold.
The characters are all residents of Waterdeep with at least basic acquaintance with each other, and a strong connection to Malric.
Alignment: Alignments are dumb, but I default to Chaotic Neutral due to her mental state.
Backstory:
Gralwynn spent her formative years in service to a temple of all pantheons, where each god had a shrine, a table, and leaders/people of rites. Instead of dedicated attendants, servicemen and women would regularly rotate which halls they would work in, to give those in the area a sense of fairness and equilibrium, as well as a view of the other side of their given faith. Gralwynn had decided to pick up a part time job for some extra coin, by offering her services as a part-time assistant to scholars and mages, and of their like. When she found herself helping a priest of Raxivort with his spell work, partway through her transformation into a rat, she began to feel the greatest of anxieties, the lowest of fears, and thus she struggled, and fought, and the spell went horribly wrong. Half transformed, her mind snapped, and went quickly insane, believing herself to be Raxivort himself, she ran off, even as the spell came undone, she retained traces of the work done unto her, patches of dark grey hair, an odd eye, sharpened teeth. She was cast out from the temple when she returned to take her rightful place in the shrine of Raxivort, AS Raxivort. Driven out of the higher reaches of the city, Gralwynn now lives as a rat, fretting to and fro, hiding in dark alleys, and plotting for her rise as the god of rats.
She has a strange fixation with rats, both their iconography and methodology, and treats her friends like pets with utilitarian uses.
Name: Nightingale's Song Race: Kenku Class: Rogue Background: Urchin Alignment: Chaotic Good Backstory:
Raised on the streets of Waterdeep, there are very few people that Nightingale's Song (or Nightingale for short) trusts. Malric was definitely one of them. He had helped her with food and shelter after her "flock" of Kenkus were slaughtered by thugs. These thugs were hired by the owner of the abandoned warehouse where they had made their nest.
She is curious but cautious, shy but fiercely loyal, and she loves shiny things. She dresses exclusively in dark clothing; except for one piece of colorful flair that changes every day. No one seems to know where she gets them all.
Name: Krimythe Race: Water Genasi Class: Druid Background: Sage Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Backstory - originally from the rural coasts, I seek to hide my elements within the city.
Name: Chazrael Teadrinker Race: Halfling Class: Ranger Background: Folk Hero Alignment: Neutral Backstory: (Brief) - Chazrael's grandmother was a famous monster hunter and he always wanted followed in her footsteps. With his bow, he aims to stop demons and other evil from taking advantage of the innocent - however he has worked with monsters and criminals - explaining his neutral alignment - just as long as people are not hurt and the job gets done. He was born and raised in Waterdeep where his parents are successful merchants. Chazrael does not have any prejudices against species or other folks - he has worked alongside orcs, drow and elves. He also enjoys woodworking and the occasional glass of whiskey.
Name: Alaric Narcion Race: Half Elf Class: Bard Background: Waterdeep Noble Alignment: Chaotic Good Backstory: Alaric is the youngest child of a human noble and elven lady. He is not in line to inherit his house as elder brother who was born to his father's first wife claims that spot. Due to not having the pressure of being raised as an heir, the young half elf was able to devote more time to other pursuits, devoting much of his time to learning the arts of both sides of his heritage. Once he was old enough, Alaric would sneak out to the local taverns where he played the part of a local bard that simply called himself Ric. When possible his favorite place to play is the Yawning Portal.
Name: Valnessa Braxton Race: Human -Variant Class: Wizard Background: Sage Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory: Born with a congenital disease at birth, Valnessa has spent most of her life staying indoors and afraid, researching for a cure. Often during her late night walks home from the library she would run into her charming friend Malric, who often had grand ideas of adventure. Now, sitting at the tavern, missing her friend; she plans on honoring his death by living her life.

Not sure if you’ll allow this character - warforged in Waterdeep, and a UA class. If so, I can offer up one of my others
Name: Wrick
Race: Warforged Envoy
Class: Sorcerer (Aberrant Mind)
Background: Far Traveller
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
(Not sure why this is showing up as manipulated! Presumably my fault for editing the post - I’ve kept my original scores) Ability scores: Ability scores: 171511171615
Backstory
An ancient arcane construct created by a mad mage, Wrick was lost in the astral sea following a magical accident that killed her creator.
The waves of the astral sea caused strange effects to their body, gifting them with true sentience, and beyond that, psionic magic. They were fished out of the sea by a githyanki skiff crew, and served for a time as navigator, plugged into the helm.
On a raiding expedition to the material plane, Wrick was lost overboard. Looking for answers (what happened to their creator, what year is it, why can they do magic, what is going on) they made their way to Waterdeep. Malric was one of their first friends in the city, and Wrick wants to find out what happened to him
A stalwart member of the Guild of Urban Works (Sewers & Ducts), he has made a career of following the guild's motto "No pipe too small, no blockage too big". But it is slowly dawning upon him that there might be more to this city than other people's waste and filth. Maybe Malric had a point after all; and perhaps the way to honour him was to embark upon that great adventure he always craved.
Application Name: Clarrisa Nolrain Race: Water Genasi Class: Cleric Background: Hermit Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory: (Brief) Woke up on the shore holding amulet of Istishia with no memory of her past with Malric asking if she was okay. Malric was one of the few people who knew that she lived in a small cave along the shoreline. He visited her on occasion and helped her come to terms with not being able to remember her past, but to live for her future. She lives alone in the cave along the shore and helps people after storms which is what she believes Istishia wants her to do.
Application Name: Vincenzo von Royeaux Race: Human (variant) Class: Wizard Background: Noble Alignment: True Neutral Backstory: Nephew of a minor noble kept around the household for his minor magics as some form of braggadocious act of charity on behalf of the house. He was educated and since reaching maturity has served as an envoy for his ability to pass on messages during the course of the day's business. As one of Malric's noble patron families, the von Royeaux family had the talented bard entertain at gala evenings where Vincenzo had met him as a boy. Vincenzo had since grown fond of the bard as Malric had alway's treated him as a would-be uncle figure, encouraging the once boy now "brave" believe in himself and pursue his talents.
Lionfang grew up in the streets of Waterdeep. He doesn’t remember his parents, only the daily fight for survival. Luckily he was strong and fast and his spirit guardian made him even stronger. When he was 17 he tried to steal from a fancy looking human, Malric. But the human noticed the robbery and used some magic spell to stop Lionfang. It was a good day, because Malric saw potential in the youth and instead of sending him to jail he organized him a job as a bouncer in a small tavern. With a steady income Lionfang was able to leave the streets behind and start a new life. But now his savior is dead and the only way to pay back his debt now is by avenging him.
Character Sheet Name: Dranz Race: Half Drow Class: Rogue Background: Urchin Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Backstory: (Brief) Malric, a human bard and a mutual friend.
Malric saw things in Dranz that even Dranz didn't see. He was saddened when Malric got involved in the local gangs, it was something Malric told him to never do.
Now he finds himself sipping on a pint listening to others tell their stories
A rare tear comes to his cheek he thinks of Malric wondering why
Anyll doesn't remember how he ended up on the streets. Malnourished, slinking through, stealing as he went, he only managed to get caught by the guard when he was in his early teens due to his mysterious innate powers. Handed over to Temple of Lathander's orphanage. Growing under the temple, witnessing others' pain through poverty, Anyll grew devout, but kept his powers a secret. Despite his wholesome charity, Anyll felt a longing for knowing more. On the pretence of looking for source of funding to the temple's dwindling coffers, Anyll steps into the world to find out what he is, be it his adventuring parents on the powers that shine within...
Backstory:As an egg, Szlee was found by and not too famous gnome Archeologist on expedition in Chult. His village was burning and the people all killed by Ptera-folk marauders. He was raised to be fascinated with ancient ruins and societies....And of course fascinated with the treasures to be found, covered by the ages. His gnomish father has disappeared while involved in a quest to find the source of the death curse, deep in the jungles of Chult. Szlee Hope's to find out what happened to him and rescue him or properly bury his corpse. He is also searching for his journal of the expedition so Szlee can complete his father's quest and ensure his soul can rest. Name: Hansel Moonflower Race: Half-elf Class: Cleric (Life) Background: Guild Artisan Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory: As a well-bred youth Hansel was apprenticed to a master Waterdhavian sculpter. After learning the craft he was patronised by Sune worshipers from far and wide who said he was blessed by the goddess, not only for his sculpting but also for his looks. One day while visiting a local noble's private gallery, Hansel was incensed by the inclusion of works he considered inferior. He took up the mantle of Sune and devoted himself to 'smashing ugliness' wherever he found it.
