From lands farther north, a young white dragon has descended upon the Sword Mountains, claiming the snow-capped range as its domain. The dragon patrols the skies around Icespire Peak, surveying its territory while hunting for food and easy treasure. With each passing day, the dragon’s domain grows as it ranges farther across the land, preying on anything it can catch with its claws or freeze to death with its icy breath. Sightings of the dragon are becoming more common, as are its attacks, and the people of Phandalin are growing increasingly more worried. They can only hope that the dragon's next meal isn't in town.
Hello! I’m looking to run Dragon of Icespire Peak for four Level 2 characters. The hook for the game will be that the dragon has been terrorising the area around Phandalin for a little while now and the townspeople are getting worried. They've sent out calls for aid to the major cities, asking any willing adventurers to help them prepare for the worst. Your characters have decided to answer their calls and met each other whilst travelling to the town, deciding that working together would most likely be for the better. The campaign will deviate from the book ever so slightly to make up for this hook but it shouldn't impact anything too much.
Now then, to character creation!
As stated above, characters will be Level 2.
Ability scores are either Point Buy or Rolled. If rolling, reroll all 1s and if the set is under the total of 70, you have the choice to reroll the whole set until it isn't.
Starting equipment OR starting gold to buy equipment. Either way, you also get 20gp.
All official classes and races are allowed, excluding UA. Homebrew is also not allowed.
No evil alignments.
I have access to all character creation content and will be enabling it so don't worry too much about your sheet for now.
To apply for the adventure, please reply to the thread answering the following information:
Backstory: Malvern grew up in Phandalin, with his mother, father and younger sister. His mother worked as a baker in a local bakery, and his father worked in the militia. His sister was 12 (21 now) when Malvern left to join his father in the militia. On the brief occasions his father was at home, Malvern was practicing using basic weapons with him, and became so invested that he started practicing by himself. While in the militia, there was one day when he was practicing, and he accidentally stabbed himself in the hand with a shortsword his father had gifted him. He then quite the militia and went off to adventure and fight the other things that terrorised the land. He decided to go back to Phandalin after their call for help, as he would also be able to see his mother and sister again.
Alignment: True Neutral (Best way to put it, he has little morals at this point but does good and bad things, and he's not heartless)
Backstory:
Khelek was born Losalanta Havenbook in a town not too far away from Neverwinter- his mother an elven priestess, his father a human farmer that later enrolled as a soldier in the Lord's Alliance. After his father died at war, Losa had to learn magic to do odd jobs easier and provide for his unborn brother and pregnant mother. After Losalanta was seen by the Mages of a magical academy, he was taken there to proceed as a student. He continued work in the city, and as his abilities progressed, so did the earnings he could return to his mother, who would send him letters on how his brother Miekkel was growing up fine, and how she had found a lovely elven man as her new lover. Eventually, Losa became ambitious, and his mastery of water magic grew to a want of mastery over blood, and that led to Necromancy. The magic over life and death inspired and intrigued him more than any other magic in the past had, and so he continued his research into it in secret, to the point that he discovered a magical force of necromancy within a rare gem known as 'a Black Opal'. After he graduated, he was to be given a grant to do whatever research he wanted, and planned to use this to further his studies of Black Opals, but when his studies of Necromancy were discovered, he was cast out of the college. He took what he could and left- he did not swear revenge, but he felt betrayed by the place he called home for so many years. He returned to his roots, only to find the elf that his mother insisted was kind was a horrible, horrible man. Losa stood up to him, only to find that the man knew of his studies, hearing about them through the grapevine, and revealed his 'dark magic practices' to Losa's mother, who after an argument and Losa attempting to explain himself, disowned him. Left with nothing but the clothes on his back, and feeling utterly betrayed, Losalanta Havenbook stopped existing. In most elven lives, they take a new name when they reach adulthood, the next phase of their life- Losa changed his name to Khelek, and decided he would continue his studies of necromancy on his own terms. A new philosophy on the falsehood of family bonds in his mind, Khelek has the potential to become a villain, but the right allies may be able to pull him back towards the light.

Name: Quyst Race: Tiefling Class: Warlock (fiend) Alignment: Chaotic good Backstory: Quyst had a rough life growing up as a Teifling in a small Human village. She doesn't know a thing about her father, and her mom died when she was a teenager. People on that small village would treat her as mischievous, as a thief, or things of the sort, just for her race and looks; eventually, she decided to act up to the expectations. However, deep down she is a good person - she just doesn't allow people to notice it. She steals in Robin Hood style, from rich snob people, distributing among the poor. Even though she tries to do good at all times, she had one dark episode on her story. The greed for power made her make a pact with a Fiend, and like most of the times she was tricked in the deal. She killed a young man in the forest, not knowing what she was doing. That was more than enough to make her run away from the village an start an adventurer's life. It also made her even more inclined to do good and charity at all costs.
Backstory: Born to an affluent family but discarded as a young child, Mita had to learn how to live on the streets, fending for herself and stealing to survive, she had just recently acquired a best friend, but he was hacked to pieces by the guards, having witnessed his brutal death she has sworn to never again get that close to another.

Name: Adas Dizlalin Race: Wood elf Class: Cleric Alignment: NG Backstory: Adas grew up in a hunting family, providing supplies to his town from the forests. They were not particularly wealthy nor the sole suppliers but they were honest and hardworking. They often prayed to Solonor Thlendira, the patron of the hunt but it ws important to the Dizlalin family that they never swayed too much from civilization as most hunters could. It was early on that Adas was noted as having a very dedicated passion for the family work. He was soon recieving attention from a local priest of Solonor's and chose his path in life. While his family was sad to see him go, they understood that he was to go out and bring the will of the hunt to the world and not just their corner of it.
Name: Vimak Hellbringer Katho-Laga Race: Goliath Class: Fighter Alignment: LN Backstory: On the day he broke his brother’s neck in combat, Vimak Hellbringer Katho-Laga realized that his Goliath tribe held no more challenges for him. His mother was its matriarch. She could, he thought then, beat him, but not for long. He was growing larger each day. She was becoming small in the way of the aged. He will not admit it to anyone, least of all himself, but that was also the day the nomad within him asserted itself. He became interested in other peaks and maps of distant southern lands, seeking to leave The Spine of the World behind. The next month he did leave his tribe and his younger brothers and sisters. Elenya became a sheriff's deputy for the town of Solace and started training her son in various investigation techniques while Johnathon showed Tahnis the importance of nature. As a family, they went around Krynn, visiting various landmarks. When he came of age, Tahnis' parents - mostly his father - encouraged him to travel to Faerun and explore his mother's homeworld. They gave him a book containing a list of their favorite landmarks and cities. Tahnis left Krynn and stopped in Faerun where his travels immediately brought him to Phandelin.
Far from his ancestral home, Auric is a travelling knight who wanted to be a fearsome draconic warrior since he was a small lizardling. The third hatched of the third son of the third king, the scion of Invictus was given a powerful name by the priests and trained in the art of war. Yet, even as he trained hard, the young dragonborn showed a startling lack of coordination to balance his strength of personality.
After one too many stumbles in noble company that even his charm was unable to cover up, Auric was sent off to gain in wisdom and experience as an itinerant knight. Hoping that someday he can return as a powerful warrior and reclaim his birthright , Auric is off in the world, looking for heroic deeds to accomplish to show the power and glory of the dragonborn people to the common folk of the realms.
