One of the few bright spots of the enforced quarantine time is I have been able to get through the entire Explorer's Guide to WIldemount. I'm not a huge CR fan, but I do LOVE a lot of the details and world-building in the book, so I thought I'd see if there was some interest in a campaign. It will be set on the Menagerie Coast which is the tropical region of Wildemount, covered with rich, verdant jungles, port towns, and ruined temples. It is also a neutral space in the conflict between the Kryn Dynasty and the Dwendalian Empire. The characters will be dropped into the middle of a hotbed of political intrigue between agents of the two warring superpowers of the continents, and conflict between the forces of order represented by the Clovis Concord, the loosely organized alliance of city-states that governs the Coast, and the Revelry, a lawless, chaotic group of pirates and plunderers who live to disrupt the trading vessels that travel along the Menagerie Coast. Where your party ends up, and how they get there is up to you. You will start, however, in the city of Port Zoon, the industrial heart of the Clovis Concord, center of most of the Concord's manufacturing and scientific advances. Fittingly, there is a massive temple to Moradin located in town, as well as the Academy of Applied Sciences, one of the Menagerie Coast's most renowned schools of learning, and a barracks for the Shore Wardens of the Concord's army.
Characters will start at level 1 with standard equipment or gold. Roll for stats, and you can reroll 1s once. UA and CR content are allowed, but no homebrew in this campaign.

EDIT: In terms of tone, I'm looking for this to be kind of like Casablanca, or (bonus points if you're familiar!) The Last Express. Also, given the setting, expect a nautical component at some point, and hopefully a fair dose of humor along the way :)

Rysta has hobbled into Port Zoon after a much longer journey than expected looking for shelter and safety.

Backstory: Having spent many years of her life as a sailor on a merchant ship, Clanire had been sent from her home town of Nicodranas to procure raw materials on a recently discovered island. While traveling deep in the ocean, her ship was suddenly attacked by a wide array of monsters from the sea, granting a gorey death to her dear companions before the ship was swept up and destroyed by a raging storm. She woke up stranded on a small patch of land where, to her surprise, she encountered a siren, who took a peculiar liking to the girl. Their bond quickly grew and they eventually fell in love, and the siren granted a share of her magical abilities in exchange for her service. Eventually, Clanire set out back into civilization, hoping to find unique artifacts, trinkets, and treasure to give to her lover as gifts while making use of her new powers in the world at large.

Question: Are we allowed to use the Heroic Chronicle Backstory Creator, races from other sources than this books, and/or background not from this book (Ghostmarsh has some nice nautical theme backstories)
Alignment and class: Chaotic neutral Aberrent Mind Sorcerer
Backstory: Dr. Quiem was a prized researcher and professor at the Academy of Applied Sciences. He was beloved by students for making his classes on psychological magical theory the most interesting course on campus. This all ended when an accident in his lab, where he had been researching the mind-bending abilities of creatures such as mind flayers and aboleths, left him scarred, a wee bit out of his head, and most interestingly, gifted with certain psionic powers of his own. Dr. Quiem remained on campus, but soon began abandoning most of his lectures. The ones he did attend ended in a chalkboard full of seemingly meaningless sketches and equations, and a roomful of terrified students. So, no one was all that surprised when he disappeared to his own home to conduct his experiments to discover the true source of his powers in private, with the occasional venture into town to buy supplies and scare the locals.

Withdrawn. My ideas are way too similar to a lot of the posted concepts and I'd rather not be in a 50/50 tossup.
@JacWalker, the heroic chronicle is absolutely allowed, as well as the nautical related stuff from Saltmarsh you might want to integrate. In terms of other races, check with me via PM. I will probably allow it, but there will be some exceptions (for example, no warforged). Recruiting will close Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
Class (including what subclass, if any, you're planning on following): Ranger Gloomstalker
Backstory: Chazrael Teadrinker was destined to hunt monsters at a young age. Years before he was born, his grandparents, Kara and Carlton Teadrinker, were members of a monster hunting company with their friend Seymor Archibold. During a mission where they hunted a vampire lord, Seymor killed the monster and absorbed his essence, becoming a vampire himself. His first victim was Carlton. Kara cursed Seymor and vowed that her family would forever hunt the evils of the world, not for revenge, but to make sure innocent people would not suffer like she did. She spent her life researching and hunting monsters of all kinds, which was not easy as she had to raise her son Lucien, Chazrael’s father. Kara and Lucien lived in Teadrinker Manor, outside of a halfling hamlet. While many of the townsfolk regarded her with suspicion, monster hunters and rangers respected Kara and would often stay at the manor. Even today, the structure houses some of the oldest knowledge of vampires, werewolves and demons. Kara taught Lucien the basics of monster hunting and self-defense though understood that he was not a hunter like her. Lucien went on to become a successful merchant, get married and raise a family, all of which Kara was proud of her son for accomplishing. Chazrael was different from his father. He idolized his grandmother and became interested in hunting creatures of the night. Kara taught her grandson everything she had taught Lucien and then more. At a young age, Chazrael learned how to fire a longbow and other ranger skills. Lucien did not dissuade his son, yet warned him about the dangers of monster hunting and encouraged him to take a rest to recharge himself. Kara retired from monster hunting and left all of her materials, resources and Teadrinker Manor to Chazrael. Like his grandmother, Chazrael allows monster hunters to stay and study from his grandmother’s works. He does not trouble himself with the politics of the town and feels the needless arguments of the townsfolk are petty compared to the real evils of the world. Chazrael left his home, giving the house to his friend Florinn and his family. He traveled to the coast where he encountered numerous allies over the years, and has even made friends. While his mission is to hunt evil, he has made alliances with vampires and other denizens. Chazrael does not hunt for treasure, though he does take payment for his services, especially if it is a job for something a wealthy noble can pay for. He refuses payment from those he knows they cannot pay for it. He is currently in **** Zoon on a rumor about a potential vampire lurking in the area. Even if he doesn't encounter the monster, he doesn't mind being away from home and finding some good food and whiskey.
I'll originally have Point Buy and I'll adjust stats later. If I could keep Point buy that would be great.
Also Chazrael's father wasn't named after Mollymauk/Lucian. The name comes from Vampire the Masquerade - I wanted to give Chaz's parents vampire-like names.
Race and Background: Ravenite Dragonborn, City Watch/Investigator
Class (including what subclass, if any, you're planning on following): Fighter
Backstory: Balasar was born and raised in Port Zoom. His parents were merchants that continued to be victims to the more criminal element of Port Zoom and this led him to look to the militia that protected the town. He wasn't smart like his father or skillful like his mother, but he was strong and could handle himself in a fight. As he grew up he began to practice with the militia learning to fight and keep Port Zoom and it's citizens safe.
Well, I had my eye on a Ravenite Echo Knight but I was obviously beaten to the punch. I am now considering a draconblood graviturge, the son of immigrants from the fall of Draconia to the Kryn Empire, whose gilded tongue and keen mind earned him the right to practice dunimancy. This is the post I will update when I wake up later today. XD
Withdrawn. Way too many characters of the same archetype, and I don't find any of the other races intriguing in this setting.
Sorry Ursus, though if we both get selected would you be willing to work in that maybe your guy begins to teach mine basics of harnessing. Could be some interesting RP and character development.
