The mining town of Phandalin has had its fair share of troubles throughout the years. Decades ago, the city was overrun by orcs and abandoned until a couple of years ago. Now, with brave settlers arriving from the nearby cities of Neverwinter and Waterdeep, it is a bustling little mining town. The settlement is home now to farmers, woodcutters, fur traders, and prospectors drawn by stories of gold and platinum in the foothills of the Sword Mountains, along with brave or foolhardy adventurers. The arrival of a dragon threatens to destroy all that they've worked to rebuild...
Dragon of Icespire Peak is an adventure that takes place on the Sword Coast in the Forgotten Realms. This adventure uses a quest-board system, and milestone advancement.

I’m haunted by memories of war. I can’t get the images of violence out of my mind.8
Ideals
Independence. When people follow orders blindly, they embrace a kind of tyranny. (Chaotic)
Bonds
My honor is my life.
Flaws
I made a terrible mistake in battle that cost many lives—and I would do anything to keep that mistake secret.
--A reason for coming to Phandalin, along with a little history/backstory (write as little or as much as you want):
I join the army at fifteen and quickly realized I was a natural with the Longsword. I got to where I could fight with one in each hand (see feat). I became a Sargent and lead a squad of 12 men. One day I was ordered to burn a village with non-combatants. I could not come to terms with this a deserted a few weeks later.
I been a caravan guard/mercenary looking for work ever since.
I recently guarded a caravan to pick up food stuffs from Phandalin when we were attack on the road by a dragon. I was the only survivor and want revenge.
Roscoe Peregrine Halfling Paladin and Knight of the Order of the Unicorn
Stats (point buy)
Traits: Stare down a Hell Hound & Face my problems head on.
Bond: I fight for those who can not fight for themselves.
Flaw: I'd rather eat my armor than admit I was wrong.
A reason for coming to Phandalin, along with a little history/backstory:
Growing up a young halfling Roscoe would see the big folks going on adventures and doing great things to gain fame and glory, all the while he was at home, working the farm. Then came the day a famed Halfling Warrior-Sir Percy Hobblefoot came to the village. He was strong, heroic and had many tales of his exploits but, a couple of days later Sir Percy said the Knights of the Unicorn needed him to return to help them on some great quest and he was off.
For 3 days Roscoe moped around, retelling all of Sir Percy’s tales to himself and reenacting what he could with a wooden sword and shield. On the 4 morning his mind was made up. He told his Da he was off to find his place in the world and set out. It took him 3 weeks to find one of the Knights of the Unicorn-Sir Guy Faulkner and another 3 weeks for Sir Guy to agree to take him as a squire.
Squire Roscoe spent months washing dishes, clothing, mucking out stalls and doing other menial tasks until Sir Percy happened upon the young halfling. Sir Percy, with permission of Sir Guy, took Roscoe as his squire and Roscoe’s training as a knight truly started.
It’s been 5 years since that time and Roscoe has been granted a knighthood by the order. Now a full-fledged knight-errant, Roscoe has set out to prove himself the hero he is.
Roscoe has heard of the troubles of Phandalin and has come to the area to help them, protect them and become the hero he is meant to be.
Flaw: I put too much trust in those who wield power within my temple’s hierarchy.
Reason for coming to Phandalin: Originally from a swamp in the Black Jungles, Gelris was hatched to a loving elderly couple (by tortle standards) that took great pleasure in telling him all kinds of stories about their youth and the wild adventures they would go on together.
Normally, a young tortle gets a full year to learn and be raised by their parents before their parents die from old age (about 50 or so years); but Gelris wasn't so lucky. As glamorous as the past escapades of his parents sounded, one day that past caught up with them. One of their old enemies found the family's swamp alcove. In a battle that seemed to take forever the attacker first killed Gelris's mother, then in a rage of self-defense, Gelris's Barbarian father used the last of his life and energy to land a final killing blow on their attacker before succumbing to his own injuries.
Gelris was only 9 months old. He was old enough to walk, talk, and take care of himself, but just barely.
That moment, in conjunction with his parents' stories of old planted a seed of restlessness and wonderlust in Gelris. After he turned 15, he set out for adventures of his own. He hopped onto the first sailing vessel off of the Wild Coast that he could find. It brought him to the Sword Coast.
His path took some dark turns early on before he finally found himself on the brink of death after picking a fight with a Goliath in a tavern in Neverwinter.
As he lay, face down in the gutter, he was awoken by an elderly dwarven woman in plate mail riddled with bluebirds. Her name was Arna and she was a Life Cleric of Habbakuk. She took pity on him and recognized the internal pain he was suffering. She redirected his pain and over the course of a year or so, as Gelris apprenticed under her, he learned all about the different aspects of Habbakuk. One night, on his 17th birthday, he was visited by Habbakuk in a dream while he slept. The god of animals and the sea had chosen Gelris to be a Tempest Cleric. He was imbued with the godly power of thunder and lightning.
In the morning, Gelris told Arna of the dream, and she immediately began training him as a Cleric - not just a priest, imparting what knowledge she could as a Life Cleric and finding suitable tutors for Gelris to fill in the blanks.
Once he was deemed ready by Arna (at the age of 19), with her blessing and the blessing of Habbakuk, Gelris set off to find a town in need of a Cleric. Phandalin was just that town. He has been acting as the Cleric for Phandalin since then. Even though his life's focus right now is caring for the spiritual needs of the people of Phandalin as they carve out their own place in this world, the deeply rooted wonderlust and need for adventure is still there.
Personality traits: - I’m driven by a wanderlust that led me away from home. - I have a lesson for every situation, drawn from observing nature.
Bond - I am the last of my tribe, and it is up to me to ensure their names enter legend.
Flaw - I remember every insult I’ve received and nurse a silent resentment toward anyone who’s ever wronged me.
A reason for coming to Phandalin, along with a little history/backstory (write as little or as much as you want): Legend from my home town is that there are riches near Phandalin which have yet to be discovered. I have head of strange happenings in the area as well and want to explore what may be out here. While exploring, I will bond more with nature and represent my ancient heritage. I grew in a small family, refugees after we were hunted down by orcs for fear of our close ties with nature. My family was killed but a raid while I was able to escape. Now, I am alone searching for solace and meaning... wondering what's out there, what can I discover... are there any others left perhaps?
When I set my mind to something, I follow through no matter what gets in my way.
Bonds:
I have a family, but I have no idea where they are. I hope to one day see them again.
Flaws:
I have a weakness for the vices of the city, especially hard drink.
My parents left to fight against the orcs who overran Phandalin. They left me the family sword (Inheritor item). Now that Phandalin is back in civilized hands, I hope to find them, or word of them, in the city. I also aim to spread Corellon's teachings where they might be needed. And a little clerical help is always apprecitated.
Name: Skeep Race: Kobold Class: Paladin, later Draconic Bloodline (intended to by sorcadin, thus the 15 in strenght to get multiclass requirement of 13) Scores: 13;12;11;10;10;14 after racial "bonus" Background: soldier Reason to go to phandalin: There is only place for 1 Dragon in the sword mountains. Skeep is soldier of Grauth, an adult red dragon that lives within the sword mountains. He felt the comming of another dragon and sent his "mighty" mage Skeep out to put a halt to it. Skeep travels to phandalin in search of informations.
Traits: I’m always polite and respectful to some extent. - I enjoy being strong and like breaking things but i am rarely successfull. Bonds: Those who fight beside me are those worth dying for. Ideals: Independence. When people follow orders blindly, they embrace a kind of tyranny. Flaws: My hatred of my enemies is blind and unreasoning.
(for some reason i cant add a link to the sheet) It is an unoptimized and rather weak character but i think he would be fun to play. I am also aware that townsfolk could be hostile against Skeep.
I’m always polite and respectful. I’m full of inspiring and cautionary tales from my military experience relevant to almost every combat situation. Most of Kume's tales are recycled versions of tales he has heard from other city guards.
BONDS
My honor is my life.
FLAWS
The monstrous enemy we faced in battle still leaves me quivering with fear. ( While true, the monstrous enemy was a band of goblins on the road to Phandalin many years ago. He returned to life as a town guard until recently when feeling that he has never really acheived anything in his life he set out once again for Phandalin in hope of proving himself.......lets face it, its a mid-life crisis.)
--Kume once set out for Phandalin as a caravan guard for the Lionshield Coster, but a run in with goblins on the road sent him right back to Neverwinter where he enlisted as a guardsman and has spent the last decade slumping along cobblestones and inspecting merchants and occasionally failing to catch pickpockets. Deciding now in his late thirties to 'make something of himself' he has headed back out on the road towards Phandalin.....his armour is a little tight around the midriff and his hair is receding and going grey.....but he's going to do his best....
I’m a born gambler who can’t resist taking a risk for a potential payoff. Sarcasm and insults are my weapons of choice.
Ideals
Independence. I am a free spirit—no one tells me what to do. (Chaotic)
Bonds
Somewhere out there, I have a child who doesn’t know me. I’m making the world better for him or her.
Flaws
I’m convinced that no one could ever fool me the way I fool others.
--A reason - It seemed that courting a nobles wife was not the done thing. This was a concept that Paco had trouble understanding. The noble didn't treat her kindly, more of a servant than anything. She deserved so much more. Needless to say, Paco needed to leave Waterdeep quickly. On his way to Neverwinter he caught wind of a town ripe for the picking. They'd never heard his pickup lines. Never fallen for his dupes and tricks. So, with a spring in his step, he took a right and headed into Phandalin.
Personality Traits I think anyone who’s nice to me is hiding evil intent. I sleep with my back to a wall or tree, with everything I own wrapped in a bundle in my arms.
Ideals Aspiration. I’m going to prove that I’m worthy of a better life.
Bonds I sponsor an orphanage to keep others from enduring what I was forced to endure.
Flaws I will never fully trust anyone other than myself.
Backstory Alban grew up as an urchin on the streets of Neverwinter. He has no memory of his parents. He scraped by as a pickpocket and a petty thief for his childhood, learning the best places in the city to hide from the constabulary.Eventually, Alban got himself into a scrape that he couldn't bluff or run his way out of. Cornered in a back alley by a half-orc he'd unsuccessfully tried to pickpocket, Alban just knew that his life was over. Suddenly, he heard a strange voice in his head asking if he wanted to live. Alban frantically agreed, and a shadowy blade appeared in his hand. Alban felt like he was being guided by an otherworldly force, and he successfully managed to fight the half-orc off. He had just made his pact with the Hexblade.
Alban has leveraged his connection to the Shadowfell to become a mercenary and bounty hunter. Neverwinter, however, is a crowded place for a young mercenary to make a name for himself. Alban has set off for Phandalin, hoping to make a name for himself there.
Although Alban projects an uncaring and indifferent demeanor, he does have a soft side. He remembers his difficult years on the streets of Neverwinter and has a soft spot in his heart for other orphans. He quietly supports an orphanage and is always willing to toss a few coins to an urchin.
I always have a plan for what to do when things go wrong.
I prefer the company of wolves and trees to that of people or cities.
Ideals
People (in which class I include animals). I’m loyal to my friends, not to any ideals, and everyone else can take a trip down the Styx for all I care. (Neutral)
Bonds
I'm trying to pay off an old debt - a friend is imprisoned unjustly, and I need to find the person who can prove it
Flaws
I have little compassion or time for those who live without regard to a natural balance, not matter their situation.
Backstory:
Galtheon is a man of few words; he is more at home in the forest than in the city, but came to Phandelvin (the last place he would normally visit) looking for a half-elf named Mandroval. Mandroval betrayed a friend of his, and that friend now languishing in jail, unable to prove his innocence. Mandroval, alive or dead, will.
The trail has run cold, Mandroval having seemingly vanished somewhere between Neverwinter and Phandalin. Galtheon, now low on resources, has taken stock his situation and is trying to earn a little money so that he can widen his search, while also listening for any news that might explain where Mandroval has gone.
Stats (standard array): STR 8, DEX 14, CON 15, INT 12, WIS 10, CHA 17
A couple personality traits, a bond, and a flaw:
Personality Traits
I’m driven by a wanderlust that led me away from home.
I am utterly serene, even in the face of disaster.
Ideals
Nature. The natural world is more important than all the constructs of civilization. (Neutral)
Bonds
An injury to the unspoiled wilderness is an injury to me.
Flaws
I look down on people concerned with wealth and status.
A reason for coming to Phandalin, along with a little history/backstory (write as little or as much as you want): Lamlis was born during a terrible thunderstorm in a small town well north of Neverwinter. During that fateful storm, many in the town died. To this day, folk still talk of the thunder, strong winds and torrential downpours from that night. His human mother, Anna, raised him without any help from his elven father who he has never known. While he tried to fit in, Lamlis was always seen as a pariah and bad omen, even more so after he began manifesting djinn type powers. He felt much more at home in the wilderness where he wasn't judged and could roam free. He is currently in Phandelin, where he hopes to meet some contacts that he can sell his furs to.
Personality Traits: I was, in fact, raised by wolves; I watch over my friends as if they were a litter of newborn pups.
Bond: I will bring terrible wrath down on the evildoers who destroyed my homeland.
Flaw: Violence is my answer to almost any challenge.
--A reason for coming to Phandalin, along with a little history/backstory (write as little or as much as you want)
S.B. has come to Phandalin on the rumors of a vampire in the area. She was tasked by an alpha of a wolfpack to find and slay the beast who killed his children. She also hopes this will bring her one step closer to avenging her family.
Personality Traits: Has a hard time backing down from a challenge, will try to help poor people out here and there remembering some of the poor souls in Luskan
Bond: Zylxian holds both his rapier and silver ring very dear, as though his memory is spotty, he remembers that both of these things were given to him by his father
Flaw: Has no qualms with stealing or cheating to get what he wants
Zylxian is half Drow, half human, and some would call him lucky for his human side is the most apparent. His father, a drow of some repute in the town of Luskan, taught him how to manipulate others and steal what he needed. He never knew his mother, and was told she died during childbirth. For most of his life, he worked for the Drow organization Bregan D’earthe. Other Drow, however, often looked down upon him for being iblith, and similar treatment was often cast upon his father as well. One day, he was assigned to a mission headed to Phandalin. A few miles out from Luskan, however, the group was ambushed, and Zylxian awoke alone, dead all around him, confused. He has trouble recalling his past, but one thing he remembered very clearly was a single word; ‘Phandalin’. With not much else to cling to, he began to journey to Phandalin, hoping for anything that would help him find what he had lost. (Plan on going The Revived subclass, saying that Zylxian died on that beach, though he does not know it yet, and was brought back for some unknown reason)
Stats (point buy): STR 13 / DEX 14 / CON 11 / INT 10 / WIS 11 / CHA 14
A couple personality traits, a bond, and a flaw:
I have a strong code of honor or sense of propriety that others don’t comprehend. I begin or end my day with small traditional rituals that are unfamiliar to those around me.
Reserved. As someone new to these strange lands, I am cautious and respectful in my dealings. (Lawful)
I’m fascinated by the beauty and wonder of this new land.
I consider the adherents of other gods to be deluded innocents at best, or ignorant fools at worst.
A reason for coming to Phandalin, along with a little history/backstory (write as little or as much as you want): Savion hails from the Shadowfell and counts himself among those most devoted to the Raven Queen -- even if her whims are inscrutable. So, when a raven arrived to lead him to Faerun, he followed unquestioningly. Now, he is in Phandalin, but he is not sure why. Certainly, it has something to do with news of a dragon. Perhaps, there is some trinket in its possession that the Raven Queen desires. Savion, however, considers that the soul of a dragon would prove an incomparable trophy for his goddess that would place him first among all her Shadar-kai.
Personality traits: Despite my noble birth, I do not place myself above other folk. We all have the same blood.
Bond: I entered seclusion to hide from the ones who might still be hunting me. I must someday confront them
Flaw: I like keeping secrets and won't share them with anyone.
A reason for coming to Phandalin, along with a little history/backstory (write as little or as much as you want):
Marnork Hammerforge was once a proud and famous blacksmith from Stonemir, a small city northeast to Neverwinter. Still into his early years of life his father teached him the art of smith as his grandfather did to his father but Marnork showed a far greater potential then his ancestors. Later in life receiving requests from far outside of his city Marnork managed to achieve a great and stable life alongside his wife Daghild Hammerforge and even being considered members of the high society they showed respect to others in the same way they respected their creations. But it was after that fateful day that Marnork became what he is now, a brave creature of the wild. Feared and respect by whoever crosses his path.
Some years ago his city was attacked by a small army from Turirc, a rival city close to Stonemir. Normally Stonemir defense could handle and overwhelm their enemies as happened before but this time one thing was different and his city was dominated by his foe. The troops of his enemies were led by a group of travellers that Marnork recognized into the chaos of battle as those who he helped some time ago by forging new armor and extraordinary weapons from parts of a dragon they’ve killed. Innocent citizens were slain, buildings have fallen and Marnork was aprisioned and forced to work.
After weeks of slavery Marnork was freed by one member of that party who was ashamed of his and his friends actions. Marnork was taken to the forest outside of the city and left with only a bag of supplies, his clothes and his handaxes. From that day he lived in the forest learning the way of hunter, improving his fighting style and swearing that he would never let happen to other what happened to him.
Now having heard about a dragon surrouding Phandalin he sets tail to the place to make sure those who gets the spoils of the dragon are worth of it.
Background: Jerrold is a human monk who, outside of his martial training, has been trained as a librarian. The monastery where Jerrold served is at a junction of major trade routes. So in an effort to serve the inhabitants of the region, the monastery opened a public section of their collection where anyone can come to gain knowledge. Jerrold, when he wasn't helping locals find information on planting crops, repairing equipment or other mundane activities, occasionally helped adventurers find obscure information to aid in their quests.
After many years of helping these adventurers and wishing to walk the forgotten and unknown paths, Jerrold agreed to document the changes at Phandalin for comparison to the descriptions in the texts before it was overrun by Orcs, and perhaps to find some adventure of his own.

A reason for coming to Phandalin, along with a little history/backstory (write as little or as much as you want):
Legend from my home town is that there are riches near Phandalin which have yet to be discovered.

Flaws:
My parents left to fight against the orcs who overran Phandalin. They left me the family sword (Inheritor item). Now that Phandalin is back in civilized hands, I hope to find them, or word of them, in the city. I also aim to spread Corellon's teachings where they might be needed. And a little clerical help is always apprecitated.

Reason to go to phandalin: There is only place for 1 Dragon in the sword mountains. Skeep is soldier of Grauth, an adult red dragon that lives within the sword mountains. He felt the comming of another dragon and sent his "mighty" mage Skeep out to put a halt to it. Skeep travels to phandalin in search of informations.

(for some reason i cant add a link to the sheet)
It is an unoptimized and rather weak character but i think he would be fun to play. I am also aware that townsfolk could be hostile against Skeep.
Olloray Dim - Limbo's Pit
Gunther Korroden - Nightmares in the Mist
--Kume Loren, Human, Fighter, Soldier
--Str 16, Dex 13, Con 15, Int 11, Wis 9, Cha 14
--
--Kume once set out for Phandalin as a caravan guard for the Lionshield Coster, but a run in with goblins on the road sent him right back to Neverwinter where he enlisted as a guardsman and has spent the last decade slumping along cobblestones and inspecting merchants and occasionally failing to catch pickpockets. Deciding now in his late thirties to 'make something of himself' he has headed back out on the road towards Phandalin.....his armour is a little tight around the midriff and his hair is receding and going grey.....but he's going to do his best....

--Name, race, class, background - Paco Fardancer; Var. Human; Rogue; Charlatan
--Stats - Std Array
--Personality Traits
--A reason - It seemed that courting a nobles wife was not the done thing. This was a concept that Paco had trouble understanding. The noble didn't treat her kindly, more of a servant than anything. She deserved so much more. Needless to say, Paco needed to leave Waterdeep quickly. On his way to Neverwinter he caught wind of a town ripe for the picking. They'd never heard his pickup lines. Never fallen for his dupes and tricks. So, with a spring in his step, he took a right and headed into Phandalin.

I think anyone who’s nice to me is hiding evil intent. I sleep with my back to a wall or tree, with everything I own wrapped in a bundle in my arms.
Aspiration. I’m going to prove that I’m worthy of a better life.
I sponsor an orphanage to keep others from enduring what I was forced to endure.
I will never fully trust anyone other than myself.
Alban grew up as an urchin on the streets of Neverwinter. He has no memory of his parents. He scraped by as a pickpocket and a petty thief for his childhood, learning the best places in the city to hide from the constabulary. Eventually, Alban got himself into a scrape that he couldn't bluff or run his way out of.

A couple personality traits, a bond, and a flaw:

Zylxian, Half-Elf Rogue, Criminal
Point Buy (after racial mods): 8, 16, 14, 12, 10, 16

Name, race, class, background: Savion Donnadel / Shadar-kai elf / Paladin / Far Traveler

Name: Marnork Hammerforge
Race: Hill Dwarf
Class: Ranger
Background: Hermit(with some noble traits)
Stats(standard array): STR(14);DEX(13);CON(14);INT(10);WIS(16);CHA(8)

Jerrold the Librarian, Human, Monk (Sage)
Stats: Standard array
Personality Traits: I’m willing to listen to every side of an argument before I make my own judgment.
Bond: I’ve been searching my whole life for the answer to a certain question.
Flaw: I overlook obvious solutions in favor of complicated ones.
