You all have gathered in Alstroems study. You were informed of your task and on what might await you: dangerous creatures, confusing spaces and places. But nevertheless you have agreed to retrieve Alstroems Spellbook from the demi-planes of his Planar Anchor.
The Wizard is in the room with you standing next to a table in the middle of the circular room. On this table there is a trypod holding a cluster of metal wire, roughly spherical with a diameter of about two foot, combined with gemstone and other arcane machinery, gears twisting, pistons pumping. If you are ready, just push the big red button ontop. im going to sleep now i really hit my head and need some rest. The wizard turns and walks towards a door intending to leave the room only to stop turn around and say: Oh i might be able to help you just a little bit. He takes forth his wand, gives it a flick and the gemstone in its handle glows for a second. He then leaves the room for good, leaving you alone with his machinery.
All of you who are not wearing armor (I think thats all of you actually) are under the effect of mage armor.
After her employer, Alstroems exited the room the petite but stylishly dressed raven-haired housekeeper Boo turned to her two Wizard traveling companions... the Warforged tin-man called Bulwark and the Fire Genasi named Gleam and gave them both a coy grin, "alright, you heard the master... so who wants to do the honor's and push that big red button and get this trip on the road? The sooner we leave, the sooner we get back... I got laundry stacking up as it is!" She complained as she clutched her broom tightly and picked up her traveling pack.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bulwark fishes out his own spell book and looks into it before his eyes glow and he then steps closer the machine. His metal fingers stretch out towards the big red button and he presses it. "I to have my own work today. I was hired to look into something for a client of the master."
Gleam is dressed in the pragmatic clothing of a wizard’s assistant: a robe (quickly doffed in case of accidental fire) of dark, graying brown (doesn’t show stains easily), with a satchel slung over one shoulder. He has skin that is red and white like flame, and it steams sometimes, but his hair poofs up in a neat swath of red and blonde that almost gives him the look of a candle.
He stands behind Bulwark in case of the button doing something unpleasant
Boo watched with interest as the Fire Genasi moved to position himself behind Bulwark and wrinkled up her nose and in a smug voice asked, "really? That is how you choose to dress?"Then sorceress rolled her eyes and giggled with amusement and proceeded to glance down at the ring on her finger... then turned her gaze quickly towards Bulwark, "I was worried there for a moment and thought I had forgotten my ring of recall..."She said her sentence cut off just as the big red button is pressed!
Bulwark shrugs as they wait to see what will happen, their familiar Gear lazily popping its head up to look across the other two before stretching out and moving back to rest. "Be ready for whatever is about to happen..." The Warforged says before hitting the button.
As the button is being pushed, immediatly you are blinded by a powerfull light originating from the apparatus. First it is blinding white but quickly changes through an entire colour spectrum, all colours imaginable and unimaginable. You get a headache that hits quick and hard and just as quickly as it came it subsides when the light dims.
You find yourself in a dimly lighted corridor buildt from large, smoothly carved stone bricks. you look up and down the corridor. in front it bends left, in your back it bends right. On both sides you see doors in different shapes and sizes, some are wooden, some cast from iron others are heavy stone.
Also just as you appear in this space, right infront of your group a piece of paper falls to the ground swirling like a feather. It seems to have arrived with you. (i will post a picture of this paper tomorrow when i get time to actually write it up)
As soon as the light fades and sight returns, Bulwark clears a space and sits down, his hands moving quickly as he begins to ritual cast Detect Magic as Gear hops out of the satchel and begins to move around. The familiar will stay close to its master.
Boo grabbed her head then rubbed her bloodshot eyes still reeling from their journey, "oh gawds," she exclaimed with a giggle, "what a rush, am I right? The last time I saw a dazzling kaleidoscope of colors like that I was still a student back at the Convent of Saint Ella of Waukeen when my friend Yolanda and I partook of some enchanted shrooms from Matron Mother's herb garden. But at least the shrooms tickled our fancies... sadly, however, I can't say the same thing forAlstroems' apparatus. What a shame."
The sorceress suddenly turned her gaze to the tin-man who seemed intent on ignoring one of her more interesting tales... as without a word or a by your leave he had just plopped down bold as brass and begun to mumble the words to a ritual. Boo sighed and turned as she considered the piece of paper that had fallen on the floor in front of her. "huh, that looks like my list of the things I need to pick up at the market. Can't be losing that now, can I?" The raven-haired housekeeper casually commented as she bent down and picked up the paper to silently read it. "No, no, not the market list,"she said with a shrug, and without a thought proceeded to fold the paper up and tuck it inside her bodice for safe-keeping.
Boo grinned at the sight of all the doors. "I don't know fellows I think Alstroems' apparatus is busted or something cause with all these doors this place kinda reminds me of Boccob's Bordello of Magic and Mayhem not that I've been actually been there myself, I'm a good girl, after all, I swear. Hey, tin-man let me know if you see a door that has a sigil of an eye within a pentagram, if so, it's definitely Boccob's place, what a randy old goat, I could tell you two such stories that would curl your hair. Gawd of knowledge... my dainty bum!" Boo quipped feeling rather amused with herself as she stared at the boys...
Gleam’s perception of Alstroem changes somewhat as he gauges his employees.
”Well... seems we ought to check each door and see where the problem lies. One of these is bound not to be functioning the way it ought to. Hopefully just one.”
The detect magic does not reaveal specific details, only a faint aura of conjuration magic that seeps through the entire range of your spell.
(didnt get to do the note as i said but the contents can be done in text to. There would be a sketch that is not necessairy and i might add it later) the text reads, in a first paragraph at the top left:
What does the Anchor do? The Planar Anchor manifests different spaces of planes and demi-planes within reach and links them to eachother.
and in a second paragrapgh at the bottom left:
How do i get back? One of the spaces conjured by the Anchor is an alteration of the place that contains the Anchor. The planar construct can be exited by reactivating the Anchor again.
As Bulwark examined the area with detect magic the folded up the paper that Boo had tucked inside her bodice once more fluttered to the floor. Boo groaned and leaned down and picked it up again, "I guess I have a hole in my bodice,"she said as turned to the tin man offering him the note, "here you go Bulwark, perhaps you should hang on to this otherwise I fear that I might lose it."
Bulwark takes the paper and sets it into his satchel, recalling Gear ad the metallic looking feline returns to its previous spot. "I only sense a faint source of conjuration magic. I do not think that we are going to solve this easily."
Boo scratched her head and gave the tin man a look of bewilderment, "well Alstroems sent you and Gleam because of your intellects... me, I'm not sure exactly why me. Maybe he just figured something would need to be cleaned up. I'm sure you'll you two will figure something out, I've got faith in you!" She said with a wide grin, "here I thought it would be easy and all we needed to do was scout out things the old fashioned way and start opening doors at random. The conjured spaces mentioned in the note must be behind them, maybe or where else would they be. It does boggle the mind, mine more than most. One of them must have the book and another the way home. Whatever I can do to help just me know and I'll try to keep out of your way and let you concentrate."
“Thank you, Miss.” Gleam nods his head. “Well how about we take the first one? It’s never the first door, but it seems sensible to get it out of the way.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Boo gave Gleam a wide smile feeling flattered, "Miss, is it? How very gallant of you! Knock yourself out, sounds good to me."Then Boo proceeded to walk past her companions and cast Light on her broom to provide better lighting in the dimly lit corridor as she slowly walked along to visually inspect Investigation1 the floor area just in front of each of the first few doors on either side to seeking signs of dust, cobwebs or other accumulations, and the like interested to see if there are any footprints or other disturbances that could indicate that someone has come before them and which door or doors they might have used.
