I’m recruiting four or five players for a new play-by-post adventure, one that will take place in the world of Theros. A few months ago with a tabletop group, I ran the “No Silent Secret” campaign that’s provided in the Mythic Odysseys of Theros sourcebook, and I’m eager for a deeper dive into this intriguing world of gods and heroes. This will not be a pre-planned homebrew story. It will primarily be a sandbox adventure driven by the lore surrounding the gods, history, and bestiary of Theros, and, more importantly, the wills and whims of the heroes themselves.
Here’s a bit of information that might help you in making your decision about whether to apply:
THE HEROES
Race. Each hero must be from one of the races of Theros: centaur, human, leonin, minotaur, satyr, or triton.
Class and subclass. Heroes may be of any official class and subclass. Multiclassing will be permitted.
Starting level. Heroes begin the campaign at 1st level.
Ability scores. Roll seven scores (4d6, drop the lowest, and reroll 1’s once) and then select the six highest scores. If the total of those six scores is less than 74, then start over.
Supernatural gift. Each hero begins with one of the supernatural gifts delineated in chapter 1 of Mythic Odysseys of Theros.
Iconoclast or devotee? Each hero will either be an iconoclast or devoted to one of the gods of Theros.
Alignment. Heroes of the same or nearly the same alignment are neither necessary nor expected for this adventure. I anticipate the heroes will reflect the diversity of the Theros pantheon.
The other stuff. A multitude of other details (e.g. divine favor, heroic ideals and flaws, backgrounds, the piety system, starting equipment) will be addressed in session zero after the heroes have been chosen.
THE ADVENTURE
As mentioned above, this will largely be a sandbox adventure, but it will be true to the lore in the MOoT sourcebook. It will include combat, role-playing, and problem-solving, and I request implore that you be willing to take part in all three. Remember: heroes do more than swing swords and slay monsters. All of them talk and laugh. Some of them sing, play an instrument, or dance. A few of them philosophize and write. Right?
For the start of the adventure, I intend to have each hero complete a mini-adventure of his/her/their own. If all goes well, when these separate prologue adventures conclude, all heroes will have met one another and advanced to 2nd level.
A few other details..
I will enable content sharing so that all Theros material will be available to you.
Submitting at least one quality post per day is the goal. Of course, the real world can prevent us from doing so from time to time, and that is to be understood.
I may advance the story, including combat, if a player has been silent for a full day.
Battle maps will be utilized as often as possible (in other words, as often as I’m able to generate them).
So, if you’re interested in this opportunity, please submit the following information about your hero in this thread:
Name
Race
Class
Supernatural gift (see MOoT chapter 1)
Deity* (see MOoT chapter 2)
Current whereabouts in Theros and a brief summary of what your hero is doing there (see MOoT chapter 3 for information about the various lands and locales in Theros)
A recurring vision, dream, or omen that has been perplexing your hero**
* Choose iconoclast if your hero has no loyalty to any particular deity.
** Have fun creating this but understand that I, through the lens of the lore of Theros, will interpret this vision/dream/omen. Be prepared, therefore, for the possibility that your hero’s vision/dream/omen will be implemented in a manner different than what you expect.
I understand that some of you prefer to have ability scores in hand before submitting a character concept. You’re welcome to roll ability scores (see above) if you’d like to do so. Roll now; roll later. It’s your call.
There’s no need to submit anything else. Full character creation will take place after the heroes have been selected. Thank you for your time and interest, and let me know if you have any questions. I will watch this thread closely and close it down when it contains sixteen completed applications (placeholders will not count).
One last thing: I simply hate the fact that I cannot accept everyone’s application. I apologize in advance.

Name: Kylia of Akros
Race: Human
Class: Forge Cleric (Can also be Creation Bard)
Supernatural Gift: Anvilwrought
Deity: Purphoros
Current whereabouts and activities: Kylia lives in Akros, a renowned forge worker for the Akroan war-machine who desires a different life - something with more creative opportunities.
Dream: Kylia envisions her arm reaching down into the fires of Mt. Velus before tumbling down herself. She emerges different, but the vision is blurred and she cannot make out what happens on the other side.
Current whereabouts in Theros and a brief summary of what your hero is doing there. In Akros, preparing for Iroan games, where he competes in Pankration. He has turned away from the blood-thirsty ways of Mogis and has embraced the honor and victory in sport and battle championed by Iroas.
A recurring vision, dream, or omen. Dark dreams of clashing axes and swords in a blood-stained arena of sand, interspersed with visions of his brother, a champion of Mogis.
Current whereabouts in Theros and a brief summary of what your hero is doing there: Altrisos, though his home has been the sea. There he's been sailing on ships for a while (sailor background), primarily tasked with talking to the customs officials and convincing them that his ship's cargo is legit (it often isn't, but Moneo is good with words). He's recently landed and is enjoying having his feet on solid ground, though is already feeling the call to move again.
A recurring vision, dream, or omen that has been perplexing your hero: giving a speech to an auditorium that looks empty, but he just knows is actually full of the gods
Haven't read Theros, although I do own it. This is a WIP.
Name Ursala
Race Human
Class Barbarian
Supernatural gift (see MOoT chapter 1) Heroic destiny
Deity* (see MOoT chapter 2) Iroas
Current whereabouts in Theros and a brief summary of what your hero is doing there (see MOoT chapter 3 for information about the various lands and locales in Theros) She has returned to her home poleis of Setessa after her peregrination. Ursala was assigned male at birth but spent her prizes from the Iroan games to have a wizard permanently transform her body to female. She currently is running several training leagues for the orphans of the city, some athletic and some combat.
A recurring vision, dream, or omen that has been perplexing your hero** A broken sword, bloody. Hot sands, with a trail of footprints, two pair.
Current whereabouts in Theros: A slave can begin his story anywhere, but perhaps this one might best begin in the fighting pits of a lesser neighborhood, outside of the protection of the Kolophon but not far from the shadows of its mighty walls, in bondage to a local lord and soon to be rotated through the arena to fight against better armed and armored opponents. Little do they know that Grexes knew this was to be, that Klothys sent him here for a specific purpose... now if only She could be a little more clear as to what purpose is, Grexes could busy himself and get on with a valiant escape!
Recurring vision/dream: A pillar of bronze at the edge of the world, shrouded by night, surrounded by the veiled faces of dead things. Voices whisper but I cannot understand them. The pillar calls, and yet I cannot move. Am I afraid? Or am I simply not strong enough? A brief flash of the glowing knife that took my eye and consecrated my into the service of Klothys. Once more, I wake.
Supernatural gift (see MOoT chapter 1): Inscrutable
Deity* (see MOoT chapter 2):Kruphix
Current whereabouts in Theros and a brief summary of what your hero is doing there: Hakan lives in Meletis. It is the center of learning and magic and he has just finished his apprenticeship there. It was in Meletis Hakan was exposed to the mysteries of Kruphix and he desires to know more. Hakan is a sailor by trade and looks forward to the day he owns his own ship.
A recurring vision, dream, or omen that has been perplexing your hero*: There is a door the size of a giant that appears in his dreams. It is made of thick oak and reinforced with gold and steel. A battle surrounds him but he pays no heed as he makes his way to the door. He stretches forth his hand and pushes on the door. It shudders as he opens it, there is a bright light that comes from the other side....and he wakes up in cold sweat.

I've always been in love with Greek mythology, but unfortunately haven't been able to play in a lasting Theros game. I've enjoyed playing in another game of yours, and if you'll have me here I'm sure I'll love this campaign as well! Before I determine my character, I wanna get a look at my ability score spread, so here goes that.
Ability scores: 109913151314
Name: Mekleon (Formerly Kharostones) Race: Minotaur Class: Paladin Supernatural Gift: Heroic Destiny(unfortunately, his destiny seems to be lacking the 'heroic' part.) Diety: Iroas Current Whereabouts and Actions:
After being abandoned by his warband for his distaste of their wanton bloodshed, Kharostones wandered from Phoberos to the lands beyond, eventally crossing the Deyda and finding himself in Lagonna. From there, he made his way to Meletis, hoping that the oracles and diviners he had heard much about would give some purpose to his life. But what he saw of his future broke his mind, seeking him to once again wander the countryside as a shattered man. He eventually sought out Akros, in the hopes that devotion to Iroas, who opposes Mogis and the brutal way of his minotaurs, would bend him from the grisly path predicted for him. To this day, he remains near Akros, though he rarely enters, learning from an elderly Stratian named Mekleon, from whom Kharastones took his new namesake, throwing away his old one.
Recurring Vision/Dream/Omen:
He first saw the vision years ago, after seeking out an oracle in Meletis. It begins with the dull beat of a drum, and a warmth at the tip of his horns. His vision is blurry at the beginning, showing nothing but fuzzy reds and browns and greys. The drum beats lowder, as the warmth trickles down his horns and onto his head, and he feels its sticky wetness on his fur. As he tries to blink away the blurriness, he begins to get a clearer picture of what is happening, but his vision is covered in red as the warm blood - for that is what the warmth is - trickles over his eyes before he can see. He attempts to wipe it away, only to find that his hands, too, are coated in viscera, and are ill-suited for the task. The drum beats louder, and it feels as if he's drowning in blood, a sea of bodies around him. And then the screams begin. Women, men, children, all crying out in pain as the bodies around him claw at him, pull him deeper into the blood that oozes from them. And the drum beats so loud it feels as if his skull might crack open. And he opens his mouth to scream, only to find it filled with blood. And then he awakes from his trance to find his mouth actually flooded with blood, as he has bitten his tongue and it now oozes out warm, coppery liquid. This vision has repeated itself many times while Mekleon sleeps, though it has never been as powerful as the first time. He fears that he knows what it means, that he will return to the violent ways of his people, but he prays that he has misinterpreted it.
Current whereabouts in Theros: Naddyn is in Meletis, and she has been for a few years now. She’s been studying music and magic on the land, just finishing up an apprenticeship with a human bard. Her family didn’t necessarily approve of her mentor, but Naddyn doesn’t care. She’s learned a lot, and she’s looking forward to traveling away from the seas she’s always known to continue learning both magic and music.
A recurring vision, dream, or omen that has been perplexing your hero: A dried up beach. The sounds of waves crashing, yet no water in sight. Dark clouds ahead, yet no water falls.
Current Location and Activity: At present, Dòrn Larainn finds himself among the Centaurs of the Lagonna Grounds discussing philosophy, one of his true passions.
Reoccurring dream: Dòrn Larainn, on a fairly regular basis, finds himself dreaming that he is walking through a field of fifteen statues, faceless, almost formless but, with enough detail for him to discern that fighting one another literally tooth-and-nail; some have limbs broken off and lying on the ground, others are missing chunks and some are melding into one another. And the dream is heavily laden with a sense of morbidity and foreboding.

Current whereabouts in Theros: Currently employed by a visiting scholar to provide protection from the savage lands around Mt Vesios. Becoming bored and restless whilst waiting for his studious charge to complete their visit to the monastery.
A recurring vision, dream, or omen that has been perplexing your hero: Vision - a Leonin warrior with a mane of green flame fighting hordes of undefined beasts.

Name: Halafoti
Race: Minotaur
Class: Cleric (Twilight)
Supernatural gift: Lifelong Companion
Deity: Heliod
*Note: I'd like to use the Lifelong Companion gift and make part of my character's backstory that they are a companion of one of the other characters in the party, dedicated to keeping them safe and supporting them in their endeavors.
Current whereabouts in Theros and a brief summary of what your hero is doing there: Halafoti is, like always, right by the side of his companion. He is constantly checking their surroundings for danger, convinced that there are people out their who mean his companion harm. He won't let them hurt his friend; he'd give his life before allowing anyone to get in the way of his companion's destiny.
A recurring vision, dream, or omen that has been perplexing your hero: He can see his companion cresting the final mountain, looking tired but with enough strength to finally reach their goal. He looks on helplessly, unable to even shout a warning as a snake slithers up behind them and wraps itself around their ankles and takes their feet out from under them. His companion goes tumbling down the incline and the snake tenses for a strike before Halafoti awakes in a cold sweat.
Current whereabouts in Theros and a brief summary of what your hero is doing there: Calliope has been working as the quartermaster on a merchant ship sailing between the various coastal towns of Meletis. However, she and about half her crew recently washed up on the shores of Meletis Harbor with no boat in sight and no memory of what had happened. They've spent the past couple weeks in the harbor, reevaluating their life choices.
A recurring vision, dream, or omen that has been perplexing your hero: Calliope is underwater, slowly sinking downwards. She feels heavy and her limbs move in slow motion, failing to propel her towards the surface no matter how hard she tries. As her lungs fill with water and her vision goes dark, she sees thousands of tiny, yellow lights flicker into existence around her.
