The Fifth Northern Realm has fallen. In its wake, three petty kingdoms--Ringir, Hamarr, and Elvhim--have risen, competing with each other for local power and for the continent of Nordland as a whole. Meanwhile, the people of the north are too concerned with surviving this next winter--it’s going to be a bitter one of the oracles are to be believed--to care about who rules them. The dwarves of Dunarhall are also uninterested in the politics of men, instead preparing, as always, for their upcoming war with their ancestral foes, the giants of Jotunheim. And in the town of Hedmark, a gang of bandits has been liberating the good townsfolk of their coin, food, neighbors, and anything else of value. The self-styled kings aren’t doing anything about it, not wanting to waste their military forces on so small a holding, and so the town has instead put out a call for heroes…
Welcome, friends and adventurers, to the world of Allsgard. Welcome, more specifically, to Nordland, the northernmost continent of Allsgard, and the setting of your next Dungeons & Dragons adventure, should you be so interested. I am looking for 4-6 players to take on a (hopefully) epic journey, spanning levels 1-20 should we manage to last that long, so commitment is a must. If you are interested, please apply on this thread, with a general character concept. When I pick the applicants I want to go with, we will work together to build your character so that they will fit into the world nicely.
Anything from the PHB, VGM (besides monstrous races), XGE (besides drunken master), and TCE (besides artificer) is allowed. I own the books and will be turning content sharing on.
We'll be using point buy or standard array, and milestone advancement. I'd like people to post 2-3 times per day, and I will strive for the same. And I would prefer roleplay over smash and loot, but that's not to say the latter is disallowed entirely.
I am interested and am thinking of a Goliath barbarian. Cold weather, off-shoot of giant, aligned or in rebellion, sounds like fun. Would love to co-create an epic story that we can retell to our respective grandchildren.
I'll apply, and even if I don't make it, I'll watch. I'm working on my own norse inspired setting. I'm planning on a dwarf barbarian of D'Valla with a huge carrying capacity who uses giant sized rocks. I might do a classical tragic hero based off of Kormák instead though.
Bárdi Stonethrow
Dwarf Barbarian
Backstory: Bárdi's birth was accompanied by signs of Glaroth, heralding great deeds from him. He had unnatural strength and great pride. He's a braggart, claiming to have defeated a giant in a stone throwing competition, and then thrown the giant, although most of his exploits are highly exaggerated. He likes drinking and storytelling, and he's just as happy to speak of a friend's deed as his own.
OR
Ógleð
Human Bard(Valor)
Ógleð is a classic Norse warrior-poet: Brash. He is away from his home, searching for adventure. He fell in love with a woman(Who has become engaged to someone else after he was delayed going to their wedding). Ógleð makes friends easily, but just as easy to anger. He is a good skaldic(As opposed to Eddaic) poet who uses Galdralag for his spellcasting. Holmgang is his preferred method of settling arguments. I'll try not to make him to much of a jerk though.

I would really like to get in on this game, DMWoja. My interest on Norse mythology has definitely increased lately via watching Vikings, playing the Banner Saga series, and starting to read the Illuminated Edda (Norse lore) by Andrew Valkauskas, etc.
Any thoughts as to which races would and would not be appropriate for the setting?
Since we have two possible barbarians already, I could support them with ideas such as the following:
Gnome or Hobgoblin (old war veteran) divination wizard (inspired by Floki and the Seer on Vikings)
Rock Gnome Artificer inventor (also inspired a bit by Floki)
Young Elven or Aarakocra Ranger - desires to stalk the mythic beasts described in norse lore to impress the gods
Trickery Cleric (Half-Elf, perhaps) who envies Loki or Storm Cleric (Dwarf, perhaps) who reveres Thor
P.S. A 'normal' D&D game might want some party diversity, but I sort of love the idea of multiple barbarians running around for this one, haha.
I’d like to join. My thought was a Rune Knight shield maiden. She a soldier against the giant armies and decided learning about them and their runic magic would be the best way of defeating it.
This sounds amazing! So, what is allowed and not allowed core materials wise? Are we rolling stats, point buy, or standard array? Is it XP based or milestone advancement? What's the average posting commitments per day? How do you feel about heavy role players vs smash and loot style players?
Thank you!
Here's a mock up bit totally willing to changed based on your answer:
“But no living man am I! You look upon a woman...You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King
I'm also interested. Was thinking along the line of human Druid, circle of the wildfire.
Was apprentice to a circle of the land Druid who was way to boring and always going to boring meetings about how to preserve the land and stuff. Why can't they just see that sometimes preservation isn't best, sometimes destruction is needed to make place for new life. After a big falling out where a lot of things have been said that probably neither side truly meant, he set out into the world to "show them how it can also be done, without the boring meetings and inaction". Searching for a new place in need of a shaman he heard about beasts acting strange near Hedmark and feels he is needed there
Also I'm interested in the answers to the questions riderofrohan asked.

Servant of the Stormlord. Hammer of the gods. Born with the mark of the Stormlord on his face in the shape of a lightening bolt, Elric began as a warrior and viking for his clan, but always carried with him the mark of the Stormlords magic. Eventually sent way to learn the ways of the ancient shamans and clerics who worshipped the thundergod, and now he returns wielding his hammer and the power of thunder and lightening to crush his enemy's. He seeks to conquer or he seeks Valhalla.
This does sound Interesting. Making a post here now that I can amend later once the questions posed above by RiderofRohan86are answered and we have more information to brew with.
As for a general character concept, I am toying with someone who would be an animal (horse) master and ride a valiant mount into glorious combat.
My character concept is about a Divination Wizard who works as a Soothsayer. He uses his knowledge to foretell the future - like if there will be a good harvest or if the seas will be calm for the upcoming day. He charges less than the priests or oracles of the gods and tries to stay below the radar. Some think he is a charlatan while others think he has a gift which also makes him mad. He doesn't remember much of his past except that he feels he doesn't belong in Allsgard. He seeks knowledge of the other realms beyond Allsgard. But he has to survive the Winter first.
Concept: Anglon Derringott. His master is one of the last northern wizards and counceler to the king of ringir. However, he was assasinated. Anglon now set out on his quest to revocer the arcane secrets of Nordland, as legends tell that mighty wizards once lived here, before they vanished. Whilst doing that he must avoid falling victim to the same fate his mentor fell pray to.
Alternatively, I would play a fighter, who was a high ranking officer in one of the armies but got desilusioned with the rightousness of his cause, after being ordered to commit a war crime. He deserted and now tries to fight for the people and end the war at any cost.
Race would be human for both, maybe something else if it fits the setting. I will play the character who works better for the party
To answer RiderofRohan, anything from the PHB, VGM (besides monstrous races), XGE (besides drunken master), and TCE (besides artificer) is allowed. I own the books and will be turning content sharing on.
We'll be using point buy or standard array, and milestone advancement. I'd like people to post 2-3 times per day, and I will strive for the same. And I would prefer roleplay over smash and loot, but that's not to say the latter is disallowed entirely.
