50 B.C. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. Well not entirely! One small village of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders. And life is not easy for the Roman legionaries who garrison the fortified camps of Totorum, Aquarium, Laudanum and Compendium…”
Just a quick interest check here to see if anyone would be up for a homebrew version of the Asterix and Obelix universe.
For anyone not familiar, it's essentially a light-hearted look at life on the edges of the ancient Roman Empire.
It would be a little restrictive when it comes to races and classes. In general this would be a relatively low magic campaign, except for the fact the party starts out in a village known for a particular magic potion. The party, if this went ahead, would be human (variant human would likely be okay with pre-approval of feats). They will encounter monsters, and possibly others races in even more remote areas but there would be no leeway on this (unless you can come up with an amazing way to sell me on a 'half' human).
Classes would fall more in line with the ancient Gauls of the Asterix world - Fighters, Druids, Bards, Rangers, Barbarians, and Rogues would all be okay. Might be able to be convinced to allow a cleric or possibly a wizard as a starting class. However, there would be no Artificers, Blood Hunters, Monks, Paladins, Sorcerers or Warlocks (though may possibly meet some of these classes later on which may allow for some multi-classing if it fits the story the party ends up creating)
Likely obvious from the above, but that would mean no UA, no homebrew (though I may possibly adapt the classes with some), no Ebberon, no Ravnica, no Theros, and no Wildemount.
The party would likely end up traveling across the old Roman Empire, and could end up in Rome itself, ancient Egypt, the Middle East, Goth, etc, etc.
I know the above restrictions would turn off some but they just don't fit the world I'm thinking about.
Please let me know if there's any interest and I'll spend some time thinking about this a bit more. If there is enough interest, likely at least a month or two away from actually recruiting.
This is amazing! Definitely interested, but in a lot of other campaigns currently. Sorcerers, in my opinion, could come from Egypt or something. Also, what about Rogues?

Will try to post, but I have a busy schedule and have to attend to the real world.(Currently un-unavailable, whatever that means...)

I play Avalon Farwood, Esthvele, and Anacra in the Tales of the Adventurers Tavern.
*Sheeeeez this is from a long time ago... a lot has changed...*
Completely forgot about rogues. Yes they would be okay (will edit them in). And while characters might meet a sorcerer there would be no option to start as one. The magic of the Gauls was centred around druids.
It’s possible and I might be able to be sold on it if it ends up fitting. But a long way from that point right now. Once I see if there’s any interest I will flesh the world out a bit more.
I read the everliving sh*t out of those when i was younger. I was not expecting someone to take it as inspiration for a game, but im happy that you are.
I never read heaps of Asterix as a kid, but would definitely be interested. Restrictions on classes make sense, especially druids, but bards casting spells? I'm all for bards, so would probably play a bard, but just thought I'd check.
Absolutely count me in. I bags playing Obelix's big brother - a Goliath (?) - known as Builtlikeabrickshitehouseix - an Aussie idiomatic term for a person you don't want to in a dark alley at night!
Great Idea. actually found this if this is already in the works. Glad to see this thread. Would love to help create and draft ideas and mechanics out with you, if you so please.
In addition to Asterix and Obelix I really want to build out a Smurfs/Snoks for some nostalgia
