Hey I've been planing on making new character and i thought about choosing ranger. I went to look on class features and got pretty confused. If i choose Favored Foe and replace Favored Enemy. That means i won't get any class feature on 14th level? There isn't any replacement and it seems it only works with Favored enemy. I'm confused af
1st-level ranger feature, which replaces the Favored Enemy feature and works with the Foe Slayer feature.
When you hit a creature with an attack roll, you can call on your mystical bond with nature to mark the target as your favored enemy for 1 minute or until you lose your concentration (as if you were concentrating on a spell). The first time on each of your turns that you hit the favored enemy and deal damage to it, including when you mark it, you can increase that damage by 1d4. You can use this feature to mark a favored enemy a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. This feature's extra damage increases when you reach certain levels in this class: to 1d6 at 6th level and to 1d8 at 14th level.
My DM runs our games using optional Gritty Realism rules, which means we take one day to perform a short-rest and one week for a long-rest. Because of that, I really manage my spell slots carefully and save them to a point I know I can enjoy the benefits of Hunters Mark, for instance, in at least two combats (assuming I don’t lose Concentration).
Having said that, I’m using Favored Foe a lot and without moderation. It’s the default boost for easy to medium encounters. I’m casting HM and other good spells only during particular Hard or lethal encounters. FF is helping me a lot to deliver an extra punch in DPR without the need to cast spells all the time.
If you pick Favored Enemy (OG), at level 14 you get to pick an additional creature type for your list of favored enemies, as you did at level 6. If you pick Favored Foe instead, since you're picking individuals to be your Favored Enemy, essentially, instead it's your damage die that goes up - to 1d6 at level 6 (compare to above) and to 1d8 at 14th level. So both get a bump of some sort at 6 and 14. Additionally, you also get 'Vanish' at level 14.

You get nothing more with favored foe other than an increase in the damage die size. A d6 at level 6, and a d8 at level 14.

Just to share some personal experience with that:
