Please regale me with the backgrounds of your Horizon Walkers; how have you made logic of them within the lore of your campaign setting.
Also (and the nugget of inspo I’m most keen on the most), what mini have you used for them? Did they look like garden-variety rangers (hood, cape, dual sword, bow, green and brown, a stern expression of purpose and possibly regret of some kind, etc), or do they have a sci-fi, other-planar aspect?

Hjalmar Gunderson, Vuman Alchemist Plague Doctor in a HB Campaign, Post Netherese Invasion Cormyr (lvl20 retired) Godfrey, Autognome Butler in Ghosts of Saltmarsh into Spelljammer Grímr Skeggisson, Goliath Rune Knight in Rime of the Frostmaiden DM of two HB campaigns set in the same world.
Here is my Horizon Walker's story (I'm OP.) My PC looks more or less like the images on the link that I found via Pinterest. So, more modern-wear than either the classical Ranger or a sci-fi character. It's currently being shipped from Hero Forge.
I no longer play my horizon walker using him as a n NPC in my campaign as he has maxed out but he started as a modern human player back in 1e that argued with the DM and found himself in back of the Orcs attacking the party. After surviving that encounter he continued adventuring but because I moved frequently he jumped worlds regularly. With each new version of the game he got revised as well so the change to 5e left him as a horizon walker because of the multiple world walks he has been through. I use a fairly standard ranger figurine for him when afoot but I found a nice one for him for when mounted and painted it up to show what he looks like: it has him in boots, brown jeans, a dark green shirt, black Stetson hat and a gray-green cloak. I painted the horse to look like a palomino. As normally met the character looks like the figurine - boots ( of striding and springing), brown sailcloth (denim) pants, a dark green silk shirt, a vest (magical armor) bracers (magical), a gray - green cloak (of displacement) a low crowned black waxed leather wide brimmed (western style) hat (of comprehending languages). Sometimes mounted, sometimes afoot, he normally has a backpack (Heward’s), quiver (Ehlonna’s) with a sword (magic) and war hammer (magic), as well as several daggers a Staff and a pouched belt (belt of many pouches from 3.5e). He entered play as a monk3/ranger3 under 1e/AD&D and hit monk 3/ranger17 by the end of 2e. Keeping much the same appearance he switched classes to psion (L13) and then wizard (level 25) by the end of 3.5e so the vest is actually a vest of the arch mage and the staff he often uses as a walking stick is a staff of power. Because of his history he is well aware of the fact that he is a character in a game that jumps from world to world as his player moves so , like Deadpool, he often breaks the”page boundary” in his comments speaking to the player and the DM directly.
