So I was thinking of the nuts and bolts of if you had a Melee Ranger, first I had a question about if you tried to duel wield, For one attack action would you be able to get two attack rolls or would you get to attack with your main hand then use like a bonus action to swing with your off hand
For the PHB ranger, once you get the Extra Attack feature at level 5, you'd be able to do two main hand attacks (with two rolls) per Attack action and you could use your bonus action for an attack with your offhand. If you also chose to two-weapon fighting style at level 2, your offhand attack would get your relevant ability modifier added to the damage, making the attack equal in damage potential to a main hand attack.
Prior to 5th level, you'd get to make one attack per Attack Action, plus the offhand attack as a bonus action (assuming you're not using that bonus action for something else).
I will, however, mention the Dueling fighting style.
Dueling as a Ranger is also very viable, at least in comparison to TWF (Two Weapon Fighting). After level 5 you have two attacks with the Dueling damage bonus, and your Bonus Action is free to throw out/move Hunter's Mark or, with the Revised Ranger past level 8, use Dash (which stacks super-well with the Mobility feat).
My own Ranger was originally a Bard, though most of his levels are now in Ranger. It's given him access to Healing Word (a Bonus Action spell) - so he can double-attack with his action and then heal, all in one round.
Dueling also allows for a shield to be held in your offhand. Combining this with the Warcaster feat, you can cast practically all of your spells still and get the sweet shield-wielding AC bonus. It allows the Ranger to become a psuedo-tank of sorts, making great use of your good HP.
if you never use your bonus action then go for two weapon fighting, but there is almost always a way to use your bonus action like casting/moving Hunters Mark, Ensnaring Strike or Hail of Thorns
And if you multi class Cunning action, Bardic inspiration or any other bonus action spells are very useful
Agreed...might I add that a melee centered Ranger is pretty cool flavor wise. I mean they gain scale mail. Hit die are 1d10 and the use of finesse weapons or possibly even versatile weapons lends well to a front line tank role for the Ranger. Throw in a shield and you have a modified tank. I made a Ranger2Fighter1 and was impressed by it's grittiness and ability to have a sense of realism and impending danger. If I had the chance to make the Ranger in the PHB, I would have made a favored enemy as a bonus modifier to an attack action or even throw in some extra damage. This is where I think they went wrong with the core Ranger.

Thank you
Yep, LaPluys is entirely correct.
