I have been working these changes to the ranger class withing my campaign for one of the players. I enjoy it thus far and wanted to get some feedback. I acknowledge that some of the changes are adapted or taken from the UA Revised Ranger.
Yotem's Ranger Changes. Some borrowed from UA Ranger Revised.
Favored Enemy
Beginning at 1st level, you have significant experience studying, tracking, hunting, and even talking to a certain type of enemy commonly encountered in the wilds. Choose a type of favored enemy: beasts, fey, humanoids, monstrosities, ooze, plant or undead. You gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with weapon attacks against creatures of the chosen type. Additionally, you have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to track your favored enemies, as well as on Intelligence checks to recall information about them. When you gain this feature, you also learn one language of your choice, typically one spoken by your favored enemy or creatures associated with it. However, you are free to pick any language you wish to learn
At 6th level, you are ready to hunt even deadlier game. Choose a type of greater favored enemy: aberrations, celestials, constructs, dragons, elementals, fiends, or giants. You gain all the benefits against this chosen enemy that you normally gain against your favored enemy, including an additional language. Your bonus to damage rolls against all your favored enemies increases to +4.
At 14th Level your adventures have allowed you to study and interact with an additional type of enemy. Choose an additional creature type. You gain all benefits against this chosen enemy that you normally gain against your favored enemy, including an additional language. Your bonus damage rolls against all your favored enemies increases to +5. Additionally, you have advantage on saving throws against the spells and abilities used by a your favored enemy.
Favored Terrain replacing Natural Explorer-
You are particularly familiar with one type of natural environment and gain certain benefits from your familiarity of that environment. Choose one type of favored terrain: arctic, coast, desert, forest, grassland, mountain, swamp, or the Underdark. Consult the associated benefit from that terrain.
You choose additional favored terrain types at 6th and 10th level.
Artic- you gain resistance to cold damage and do not suffer the affects of extreme cold, additionally you gain 1 hp per level.
Coast- you can breathe air and water, and you have a swimming speed of 30 feet. If you already have a natural swimming speed this increases that speed by 10 feet.
Desert- you gain resistance to fire damage and do not suffer the affects of extreme heat, additionally you gain proficiency in survival or expertise in survival if you are already proficient.
Forest- you gain resistance to poison damage, additionally you gain proficiency in perception or expertise in perception if you are already proficient.
Grassland- increase your base walking speed by 10 ft.
Mountain- you gain a climbing speed of 20 feet, if you already have a natural climbing speed this increases that speed by 10 feet.
Swamp- you gain resistance to acid damage, additionally you gain proficiency in stealth or expertise in stealth if you are already proficient
Underdark- you gain darkvision out to a range of 60 feet, if you already have darkvision it's range increases by 30 feet.
Foe Slayer:
At 20th level, you become an unparalleled hunter. Once on each of your turns, you can add your Wisdom modifier to the attack roll or the damage roll of an attack you make. You can choose to use this feature before or after the roll, but before any effects of the roll are applied.
Level 20 ability(capstone) for ranger is terrible. 4-5 extra damage to your favoured enemy per turn. I would say add your wisdom modifier to attack roles against favoured enemies.
I’ve seen this Variant before and have mixed feelings on it. The problem with Favored Terrain providing bonus’ is that it means people will be picking terrains based on the bonus’ they want rather than the areas that they are actually traversing.I’ve started to work on a Revised Ranger here...

You think restricting to favored enemy but allowing on every attack is better than the lack of favored enemy restriction?
