So, it looks like our ranger's idea of supreme martial prowess is heading up an army of attack squirrels (while wearing a dress made of pink rose petals).
tl;dr version: Can the hive mind help me workshop a fun build involving multiple small (as opposed to swarming) animals?
Long version: She wanted to play an elf with a bow, so we started off with the wood elf ranger pregen. I think we've tweaked the stats a bit, not sure. I've dipped my toes a bit into trying to fathom all the New Revised Variant Renamed Retooled Guaranteed Dripdry + Bonus Steak Knives class features, ditto for various potential archetypes, but most of the outdoor explorer type stuff hasn't come into play much yet so I didn't try to set anything in stone. But now she is 3rd level and I'd like to have the character more clearly defined.
She's really into the whole outlander wood elf grew-up-by-herself-in-the-forest thing.
Likes the longbow, not so fussed about melee (dual shortswords).
No rogue, so she has become the party's scout.
Would love to surround herself with squirrels and other small furry (or feathery) animals. Has made good use of Animal Handling, animal friendship, speak with animals.
So...what features would you include (doesn't matter if it requires extra feats or spells, as power gaming isn't an issue)? Can I tweak an official or UA subclass, or what would you put into a homebrew version? And can I get it to work on DDB?
Yes, but not in detail, because it seemed very focused on insects (spell list, flying speed, adding to weapon damage). How would you reskin those features to fit a smaller number of larger creatures?
Thanks, I think you've convinced me that Swarmkeeper (Bevykeeper? Flockmistress? Gagglegirl?) will work. For the flying speed, maybe I can give a regular speed bonus or give the bevy/flock/gaggle some minor buff.
My thesaurus says the collective term for ravens is an unkindness. Please accept my wish that you (or your ranger) enjoy many unkindnesses hereafter.
