Sounds like a beast master tbh. Generally speaking, I do not like what they bring to the table. Goliath works fine. The weapons sound fine, although I personally would prefer to have better ranged options than handaxes. That's just the view of someone who's been melee focused and stuck unable to melee for a variety of reasons, but there's nothing inherently wrong with them. Hide armor sucks, I'd try to get scale or failing that a chain shirt.
For your pet, I don't think you can use the black bear, it's a CR 1/2. DM might let you house rule things, but that's between you and the DM. That leaves you with the boar. If you attack with your axe, your pet cannot attack. If your pet attacks, then you cannot. So, you are choosing between your OWN 1D10 (battleaxe, two handed since you have no shield listed) + str mod or your pet's D6+1+ proficiency mod. Your beast only has a 13 str, so will be less accurate than your ranger, unless you too have only a 13 str.
In short, it's going to nearly always be better for your pet to never do anything...so why be a beast master?

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

1. For hide, I wanted him to be a tribal warrior so took it. 2. Handaxes as I can use them as either melee/ranged. 3. DM said that the bear would be fine like that. 4. Took beast master as I liked the idea of this rough goliath being nice and having a friend in this beast. And It has cool potentials.
So there are 2 ideas for my goliath beast master
1. have a black bear but with HP down to 4 times ranger level (12HP), then take 3 levels of barb, totem warrior
2. or, take boar and then 3 levels barb totem warrior.
For both, would take gold (I rolled 110 gp): a battleaxe, 2 handaxes, hide armour and explorers pack.
How'd it sound?
