Forest. Jungle is literally forest. It use to be said it was a different type of environment more tropical blah blah blah, but it's not true. Forest is an english word. Jungle is hindi. I can say the woods, the bush, etc...it's still the forest.
Its like the Sahara desert. Sahara is just desert in a different language. So its literally the desert desert.

So, would a favoured environment of jungle be swamp or forest? Or could it just be home-brewed?

Could be both, depending on the setting but swamp seems more fitting to me. Talk to your DM. :)
