How do you want to play your rogue (not rouge)? Pretty much the only must is high dex.
McDucks Charlitan is one option, getting what you want by deception.
An urchin background who lacks formal education (int) but has high street smarts (wis) is another classic, they are very aware of there surroundings and masters of stealth they would prefer to get what they want without being seen.
I have played a rogue who used to be a cop (city guard) with a lot of undercover work.
You can either go melee (using finesse weapons) or ranged (using bows)

Understand the rules for sneak attack well. You should be getting it basically every round. If you're not, you're going to be very ineffective.
That I understand, and I use and have proficiency in light weapons, and I dual wield daggers
