I'm working on a fighter/rogue multiclass, I have a good idea of what I want to take, but I just am not certain of the order / total level goals. The character is a former henchman / bullshit detector who has the following stats.
STR: 10
DEX: 16
CON: 13
INT: 10
WIS: 16
CHA: 8
The basic idea is that I utilize the sentinel feat to give myself an extra sneak attack each turn ( Sneak attack is once per turn not round and thus triggers on off-turn reactions). Then I would like to get at least 3 fighter levels so I have battle master maneuvers to further guarantee those off-turn sneak attacks. Im using a whip and shield(flavored short spear and buckler). The whip gives me reach to trigger sentinel with as a dex fighter. Hopefully +2 from dueling and sneak attack damage will effectively combat the low d4 damage from the whip.
I also want to go inquisitive rogue to allow myself to sneak attack with riposte. So at least...
3 level Inquisitive Rogue
3 levels Battlemaster Fighter
Right now I have 1 level of rogue and 1 of fighter. I'm wondering what is the best order to take these in. Should I take any more than 3 in fighter? Should I take 4 in rogue before I take anymore fighter to get that ASI? I'm a feat hound and am tempted to get 6 levels of fighter just so I can grab that extra ASI or Feat.
I feel like I have a fairly good idea of what I want to do but can't seem to plot out the optimum trajectory. A penny for your thoughts?
If you have a party member who is a fighter, try to talk them into becoming a cavalier. The class fester synergizes well with a rogue who has the sentinel feat. This provides several features that increase the damage and defense of both characters.
if the sentinel feat rogue fights side by side with the cavalier, the wavering mark landing means that the rogues going to get attacked as disadvantage. The creature has to make a decision.
1 attack the fighter and risk getting hit by the rogues sentinel feat reaction attack for a possible 2nd stack of sneak attack.
2. attack the rogue with an increased chance to miss, and if the attack lands then be subject do the fighters special bonus attack at advantage with bonus damage.
arcane trickster is pretty good though. Have a familiar stay on your shoulder to sneak attack since they count as an ally. Foes forced to attack an image from the mirror image spell would cause a reaction attack from sentinel feat too. Also magic is awesome, even if it’s just a bit.
any of the rogues would work well though. Mastermind could work well to ensure a creature gets marked at lower levels.
