Str 8, Dex 16, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 16 included Racial Bonus
Start as Rogue 1 then switch to Bard 1-6 for College of Swords for two weapon fighting and extra attack, at level 4 bard take 2 dex. Then Rogue to 8 for Swashbuckler, sneak attack and take 2 dex and charger feat for +5 attack. Rest not decided. For the background, will take entertainer and he will be a celebrity chef and hence make sense with knifes. So at 14 levels, it should be Rogue 8 and Bard 6. For next 6 levels, not yet decided of what to take. Any thoughts?
How come? Shortsword does 1d6 damage and Rapier does 1d8. Did I miss something?
Also, is it actually better for me to start as a bard then take rogue or better take rogue then bard?
You mentioned knives so I assumed you were using daggers. Rapiers would be the best, but you can't dual weild them without the duels wielder feat.
As for which class to start as: if you start rogue you will have 1 more extra skill proficiency in the long run. CHA and INT saves are about equally as common so that aspect doesnt matter. Rogue starting equipment is also more robust. In short, I suggest starting rogue.
Does this make sense?

I recommend using shortswords or scimitars for slightly more damage.

Rogue tabaxis are good since they have tons of movement and can have 180ft of movement in one round if using all of your actions.
