Is it possible to use your action and reaction in the same moment?
The context. There is a ranger/fighter who took primordial companion ranger as well as rune knight fighter.
They propose that on their turn they wish to make a melee attack against their companion then, use their reaction to invoke the Cloud Rune to make that attack now magically target another creature. I believe this is not possible but I have had some people tell me otherwise. I ask for the guidance of the internet. See Cloud Rune Below.
When you or a creature you can see within 30 feet of you is hit by an attack roll, you can use your reaction to invoke the rune and choose a different creature within 30 feet of you, other than the attacker. The chosen creature becomes the target of the attack, using the same roll. This magic can transfer the attack's effects regardless of the attack's range. Once you invoke this rune, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
*EDIT I just think it's silly that they could be able to do this.
It is perfectly possible to use your reaction on your turn. For example, you could ready an action to go off when you see an enemy, move, then see an enemy. This would trigger your readied action and you could then use your reaction to performed the readied action.
You could also use a reaction spell on the same turn as casting another spell; say you cast a spell, get counterspelled, then counterspell in return
I don't know the ranger features well enough to dig into the exact situation you are describing, but you can use your movement to run to a cliff and jump off, then cast feather fall as a reaction and even cast fireball on your way down. All of this can be done on the same turn with no issues.
The wording of Cloud Rune implies that it would work. Note that it is only ONCE per short/long rest, so not an overpowering ability, and the attack roll still has to exceed the AC of the new target.

"Not all those who wander are lost"
Yeah, they way reactions work is to interrupt other actions (not necessarily preventing them unless stated), so you can totally do this.
It is honestly very clever if you've got a target out of reach.
I’m not sure you can legally attack yourself to make the combo even easier... but yeah, totally doable.
Similar in spirit to a Drunken Master partnering with the Great Weapon Master character to help them hit high AC targets with Tipsy Sway :)

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.

Thanks for the information. I think it still has some ethical concerns where you are attacking your companion but atleast I have an answer.
