Hello, my Rangelock (lvl 5 Ranger/lvl 3 Warlock) just hit lvl 3 and it's time for me to choose a pact. I'm not sure what to choose as I have a lot of spells already without taking pact of the tome, though it would give me a lot of nice cantrips. Pact of the blade is tempting since my character has 20 DEX and already has extra attack, but I took Hunter/archery so my specialty is with ranged weapons which I would need to sacrifice an entire eldritch invocation for. My DM has ruled that I can take the Shadow Blade spell and conjure arrows via the spell (which is a bonus action just like summoning a pact weapon). I'm sitting at 56 HP and an AC of 18 so there's no reason my character can't melee except for having no weapon for it. My current invocations are Armor of Shadows and Mask of Many Faces. Currently my plan is to trade in Mask of Many Faces for Devil's Sight (can see through any darkness, magical or non, up to 120 ft) and take the Darkness spell, and swap out my Unseen Servant spell for Armor of Agathys. The only other lvl 2 spells I have been considering instead of Darkness are Shadow Blade or Spider Climb. My CHA is lower than should be legally allowed for a warlock multi class (11 instead of 13) but my DM allowed it. My patron is the Fiend. And no, I have not taken Edlrich Blast yet as my low CHA would make it more miss than hit.
TLDR: which pact boon is the best fit for a currently long distance Rangelock that wants to be able to melee?
For your circumstances, I 100% recommend the Pact of the Chain, for an invisible companion that can perform the help action to give you advantage on your attack rolls. And outside of combat, it can even scout for you.
Is there a specific familiar I should pick for those perks/abilities? I haven't looked into Pact of the Chain much after not taking an animal companion for my Ranger side of the character.
Pact of the Chain is generally considered pretty damn good because it lets you get an imp, which can turn invisible at will.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.

The Sprite is ideal. It can turn invisible and fly, and if you take the Investment of the Chain Master invocation from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, you can use a bonus action to have it attack with its shortbow, which will trigger a save using your Warlock DC, to poison the target, or render it unconscious if it fails by 5 or more. It's a good use of your Bonus Action if you don't have something more important to use it for, and it doesn't use any resources, so you can have the Sprite attack every turn, if you aren't having it give you advantage on your attack via the Help action.
Another really good Invocation to consider is the Gift of the Ever Living Ones (XGE): Any time you regain hit points while your familiar is in range, you heal an amount as if the dice rolled their highest amount.
The Imp is also very thematic for your Fiend pact, and can both fly and turn invisible, but can also turn into other animals.

Damn I had discarded it but Pact of the Chain sounds pretty good. But now I'm hearing arguments for what's the best familiar~
TLDR: If a Rangelock picks Pact of the Chain which familiar should they pick?
So far it seems between the Sprite and the Imp.
