I have searched for hours on how to find out ways a player can discover their own True Name. I probably knew this at one time, but time and many medications later it seems to escape me. It's hopefully not needed to be mentioned that the character needs to learn their own True Name in privacy so only the character and source know the name.

Whatever your DM goes with is probably fine, but if you want suggestions (e.g. if you're the DM), Commune might be an excellent solution. Alternatively, depending on your setting, you may already know your true name. The last time I played in a world where true names were a thing, the definition of true name was how you referred to yourself in your own head, so there was no way not to know it.

Pretty sure true names aren't a thing for PC's in 5e. The only place I've seen it mentioned was concerning summoning fiends and devils.

There was an UA on the subject of Onomancy, but it was (as usual with UA) overpowered and underdeveloped, but it was reasonably interesting nonetheless. And I still love the subject as we had a lot of (mostly homebrew) things in AD&D about Truenames, quite a few of them sparked from the excellent DIlvish from Zelazny's books.
And in that UA, your "true name" was whatever you personally considered it to be, usually your given name. Which... Was kinda lame.

Thanks, I was interested in prestige classes that involve knowing your own true name. Namely Immortalist.
