I need your expertise in understanding what qualifies on a critical hit. I know that one has to throw a nat 20 for a critical.
Firstly let me say that my DM does criticals a little differently, if his campaign, critical damage works in the following way:
- Max Damage on dice plus 1 extra role of the damage dice (so if it was a d6 = 6 plus 1d6)
I am playing as a rogue (Arcane Trickster) at Level 5
I have Booming Blade (with a Silvered short sword), sneak attack (3d6) and am proficient in poisons.
What I wanted to know is what damage is effected by a critical role? What parts of Booming Blade count in the critical and does poison damage count too?
I am trying to work out what my max damage would be on a critical.
Sneak Attack absolutely criticals - as does the initial damage on spells like Booming Blade (but not the subsequent damage after the attack).
Damage from poisons will depend though. If the poisons require a saving throw then no they do not critical because they stop being part of the attack and become their own thing. If the poison does not need a saving throw and just happens then it will critical.

That’s great, thank you so much. I really wasn’t sure.
Basically, all damage done by the hit on the hit get the crit. Anything that specifically says it comes later, from a different source, or comes after another roll (besides the attack) don't crit.
Poisons are the default example for what doesn't crit because most require a save for half damage (the ones that don't, can crit).

Thanks for your time all
How is proficiency in poisons relevant, just so we can actually help?
Come participate in the Competition of the Finest Brews, Edition XXVIII?

I am an Archfey, but nobody seems to notice.

Sorry, so I have the feat of poisoner too.
