Can a sorcerer use the metamagic option Distant Spell and cast a Touch spell through their familiar at a range of 30 feet?
Like 30 feet from where the familiar currently is, so it effectively allows the familiar to deliver a touch spell up to 30 feet away?

"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
Is it a timing thing... if you say you are casting the touch spell through your familiar first and then use the distant spell to turn it into a range of 30 feet... it works?
And if you use distant spell first it is a range of 30 and can't be cast through the familiar?
If not timing, is there something else that prevents this?

Hmm. They have the same trigger language, so they happen in the order you want, but...
I would say that since distant spell metamagic changes the range, the familiar can no longer deliver it. And there are a variety of potential arguments for this answer so take your pick:
Changing the range first means it doesn't qualify for the familiar to deliver.
Changing the range after still disqualifies the familiar because it hadn't delivered it yet and was no longer touch.
Because the familiar is delivering it as though it had cast it, you are no longer considered to be casting a touch spell.
The rules as intended is for familiars to have to touch the target.
I'm not saying you'll agree with all or any of these, but it is easier to argue against than for. So your DM is more likely to rule against.
I would say yes, both metamagic and familiar have the exact same wording "when you cast a spell with a range of touch"
and I would say this falls under the "specific beats out general rules", so the familiar can deliver a spell with a range of touch, your casting a spell with a range of touch and turning it to 30 feet via metamagic, the specific ability of metamagic should trump and allow the familiar to deliver the spell from range
Also, guy had to do something to get a familiar, and metamagic is so friggin limited already just toss the guy a bone and let it happen

I want to say no, but technically, theoretically, yes.
On the one hand, the familiar is delivering a touch spell that has been extended to 30 ft., so yes.
On the other hand, the familiar is delivering a spell with a range of 30 ft., so no.
I’m rather conflicted tbh.
